Mia is a great restaurant to experience with a larger group. According to the server, each person consumes around 2-3 small plates so this place is not necessarily the most economical. The food here was mainly Asian fusion and tasted delicious. My personal favorites were the asian greens and the thai baby wings. The pad thai noodles were all stuck together and were pretty difficult to pry apart. The food here was not the cheapest but still worth the experience. Get ready for hidden fees and sprinting servers! We were sat immediately, an event that would be the last pleasant interaction with the staff of the evening. After sitting for quite some time with our menus we desperately began to try and flag down our waiter. Although we were opportunities seated by the kitchen door and servers went by often, they were literally sprinting back and forth in a way that made it impossible to grab them. When we were finally served, plates we ordered were tossed into the table as our waiter disappeared in an almost comedic puff of road-runner-esc dust -- dish still oscillating to a stand still. At the end of the night we were surprised to be reassured that a gratuity had already been included on our bill despite the fact that we were a small party and no such inclusion was noted on the menu or before hand. "It's okay since we told you before you paid". This is not fine dining. This is a scam. read more

Service is attentive and friendly, we sat at the bar. Wings app, delicious, Tenderloin skewers app was very chewy. Roast Duck entree, DIVINE (Rachel the Bartender's favorite), crispy skin, tender meat, just fabulous. Note there are two duck dishes on the menu, this one is the "Roast Duck". Paired it with a glass of a Cali Zinfandel, perfect. They also have a special drink of the day which adds to the experience, and there are other fun drinks available. Huge fan of Mia! We ended up arriving 15min later than our reservation, but luckily they were still able to accommodate us and we didn't have to wait in the long line on a Friday night. We started with a couple of drinks, and the server really knew her wines -- ended up trying a couple of different reds and loved them! We got the Panang Curry (pictured) and the Goy See Mee, both of which were phenomenal ~5/5. Beware, the Panang curry really is spicy (I had actually gotten the Goy See Mee originally, but after one bite my boyfriend made me switch! Good thing I like spicy food..). 5/5 for ambiance as well, the setting was really lovely and intimate. Wish I had found this earlier, it would've been our go-to date spot! Amazing tastes and professional staff. The spring rolls were absolutely the best ones we have ever had. Look and taste gorgeous. The skin was crispy yet substantial, and the sauces were so unique and delicious. I ordered crispy tofu panang curry, which had a good balance of heat and sweetness from coconut milk. We got pomegranate and blueberry flavored ice cream for dessert. Very big portion and refreshing in taste. We had an unexpectedly delicious dinner here last week. We are all New York foodie snobs and went in with moderate expectations but were very presently surprised. The duck leg with tamarind sauce was beautifully spiced and cooked perfectly. We also loved the shrimp with basil entree and the lotus root appetizer. The food and service here was Amazing!!Great wine list and a great variety of vegetarian and carnivore options. The Thai shrimp clay pot was so flavorful and well presented. My tofu Pad Thai was spicy, but well balanced and delicious!! I felt very safe with all their careful sanitation and cleanliness. Mia gets four stars because they can take it to the next level. Their eclectic food hugs you and caters to a range of dietary restrictions. Further, the restaurant houses a beautiful ambiance. The staff is understanding and friendly. That said, Mia can improve some loose ends. Patrons cannot make reservations and showing up any time after 7:00 pm does not seem to guarantee seating. I do not appreciate this sort of stressful experience every time I want to have dinner after 7:00pm. The staff needs additional hands. The wait, kitchen, bar, and host staff are too busy. While the staff is sweet like sugar, they are in a constant chase to the next patron. In a similar sense, the custodial staff seem to rush some of their cleaning responsibilities. The restroom can use a deep clean. Mia is great. Pay to bring on more staff. Increase your hours of operation. This is a great operation that has plenty of potential. read more

Came here for the first time last Friday. Didn't need a reservation and was seated immediately in a party of two. To start, we ordered the Brussels sprouts, crispy pork pieces, and dried beef. The Brussels sprouts were deliciously seasoned and cooked, the crispy pork and dried beef with sticky rice were alright. Crispy pork was a little dry but still tasty. The dried beef had a strange sweet aftertaste but the spicy sauce it came with was great to dip it in. For our entrees, we ordered the Chicken Tikka Makhani and the Thai Shrimp Clay Pot. The chicken tikka makhani was absolutely delicious, large portion and the chicken was so tender it fell apart with just the fork. The clay pot was good and a large portion as well. To finish, we ordered the chocolate lava cake and were extremely disappointed. The entire cake was drizzled with this raspberry sauce (which the menu DID NOT mention) and we had to physically wipe the plate off as neither of us wanted the sauce. The cake was dry and the molten chocolate was really underwhelming. Definitely would not recommend that dessert. Waiter was terrible. Overall, 4/5 would like to try more menu items. read more

Despite hearing good reviews from my friends and having a cool concept, I thought Mia was a bit lacking. Overall - cool ideas, questionable execution. ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE: Looks fantastic, feels great. The service was on point, no complaints. Let's talk about food... 1. Ahi Tuna Salad: Fresh greens, the yuzu soy dressing isn't bad. Decent portion - be aware that the Ahi is 3 thin slices which are well seared on the edges but nicely raw in the center. A totally decent salad, but nothing special. 8/10 2. Roast duck puff pastry samosa: Comes with a tamarind-mango sauce and what I believe was a chutney with whole mustard seeds. The problem is that puff pastry is rich and butter, combined with the sauces which were very sweet, and the rich and heavy filling - this was just dense and unbalanced. Furthermore, the duck in the filling felt like it had been braised for a lot time to the point of toughness. 7/10 3. Alaskan Crabmeat & Vietnamese Sausage Wontons: Disappointing. The filling lacked the sweetness of crab but also didn't really have any significant savoriness or any flavors that reminded me of vietnamese flavors. The soup was decent. There were 5 or 6 very small wontons in this portion. I just felt like the main attraction here, the filling of the dumplings, did not deliver. 6/10 4. Pan-seared Tandoori Quail: The quail was tough. I tried cutting it with my knife and it didn't work. I resorted to picking it up by hand and biting it directly. Also, the spice blend on the outside of the quail was passable but they had completely forgotten to salt the quail. The quail also lacked any browning or maillard flavors, it just felt like the spice blend had been stuck on. The spices didn't taste particularly well toasted or bloomed prior to being rubbed on. The raita on the other hand, was thicker than usual and saltier than usual. Solid concept, perhaps, but poor execution. 5/10 5. Passion Fruit Frozen Souffle: First off, this is a big portion. The passion fruit flavor isn't bad, but they may have oversweetened the base as the brightness isn't as punchy as a great passionfruit dessert is. This is fairly hard, but not that dense. Frozen souffle is a fairly apt description, I suppose. I would guess that the recipe is for a semifreddo. The raspberry sauce (we had no caviar) was completely forgettable - tasted like the raspberry gel on a supermarket cake. There was also some sort of brittle on top which was tasty, but just didn't mesh well with the rest of the dessert. Also, for a frozen "souffle," I think I'd prefer something that retains the texture of a souffle as to be honest, we spent the first minute or so attempting to dig into the top like digging into a hard frozen pint of ice cream. We came here on Saturday Night of Labor day weekend mostly because there was no wait. Boy are we glad we did! I don't know why there were not more people here but that was okay with us. This is the best meal I have had in Ithaca to date. We had the Duck Panang and the Chicken Panang both dishes were out of this world . Wonderful, little tapas and wine bar in town. Classy, really nice place to get dinner, and not over priced. Just right, totally average pricing actually. An interesting variety of small plates to dinners, also beer on tap. Relaxed, comfortable, and intimate setting. My boyfriend and I stumbled in on a busy Saturday night when a couple of the other joints in town had a wait time. We like to sit at the bar, and can usually sneak in somewhere. We've walked past this pretty little place several times past, and were interested, but never stopped in, until last night. It was also busy and although a group was waiting for a table, the bar was almost wide open. Nice date setting, even at the bar. The bartender (s) were super kind and generous, and kept themselves busy keeping tidy while providing exceptional service. The food was delicious, as expected, and every plate around us looked enticing. The menu was not at all overwhelming, nor was it small. Many choices, and vegetarian options as well. I agree with a reviewer below that there is a bit of a snooty attitude. The waiter was very micromanagery and told us not to get the menu dirty when we wanted to hang on to it (before the food arrived. He whisked menus away safely before the food arrived). Food was mediocre: Crispy pork shank not that crispy. Salmon sushi was fresh and delicious. Ramen noodles was decent. Calamari was in giant pieces and got soggy almost immediately. Scallion pancake with potatoes was just weird texture and taste wise. Pork belly bun was delicious, it's hard to mess that up tho. read more

Three and a half stars as an average rating for Mia is very surprising to me, because the food has always been amazing and the service is always efficient and friendly. We're huge fans of the pork belly and a number of the other meat tapas. The mixed drinks are great and we've found a few that we really like, and there's a number of pretty original and unique offerings. My only possible complaints is that the space can feel a little cramped at peak hours, and it can be a little pricey, but the food more than makes up for it. read more

Ambiance was great and we had a good table in the back, but I ordered the Panang Curry with Crispy Tofu. When our meals finally arrived the waitress had brought me sea scallops in a curry sauce, which I hadn't even seen in the menu. I pointed out the mistake and she said "Oh, looks like they got it wrong, do you want me to return it". I asked how long it would take to prepare the meal I had ordered and she said "I don't know, I can go ask if you like". Everyone was hungry so I took the scallops, which were tough and sinewy and under cooked. When my bill came they had charged me $24 whereas the Panang Curry that I had order was only $15. I will try to avoid Mia's in the future. Poor service! read more

Mia is cute and has good atmosphere, but it doesn't excel in any way. Mia is in the Ithaca Commons, meaning that it is in a sweet spot for quick dinners between friends. The atmosphere is nice and classy, distancing itself from some of the dive-like restaurants nearby. The food is just OK. The Karee Gai was just OK. The Panang Curry was also just OK. Both seemed to be adequately seasoned and prepared, but neither really impressed me beyond a "wow, that's food" sense. I'm not sure what it was, but I had a hard time getting excited about the food in front of me. If you go here, I'd definitely experiment with their tapas - I'm hoping that is where their skill lies. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant but it ended up being my worst dining experience in Ithaca on my most recent trip. We arrived around 8 and there was a short line for a table. No one greeted us. We eventually got our names down on a list and they said it would be a 45 minute wait. 15 minutes later we were seated outside. 15 minutes went by before anyone acknowledged us or even brought water. Our waitress asked if we wanted drinks and I mentioned water and she said "someone should've already brought that". The appetizers were edible but not good. The entrees took forever to come out and were so bland. I am not a cook and I could've made something with more flavor. The rice didn't seem fresh either. read more
