It was my cheat day and I was craving loaded nachos All week, decided to make a stop here on my way back from Pittsburgh PA. I had a strawberry margarita which was really good, I wasn't to ecstatic about the loaded chicken nachos as they were served with a chunk of chicken on each nacho as opposed to shredded chicken none the less they were ok. My family has been going here for dinner every few months for years, it's that good. They have amazing salsa, and I love their queso. We usually get the fajitas, but their enchiladas are also delicious. I don't think it's advertised on their menu, but they have amazing refried beans you can get instead of the pinto beans. And they're usually very quick, we're often still eating our appetizers when the main food comes out. If I had to give any complaint, they don't always give you a ton of the sides that come with the fajitas - I definitely wish they gave a larger side of beans - but the food is always delicious. I would definitely recommend going if you're looking for good food in upper Montgomery County. read more

The food is OK. What I found utterly disappointing is that the wait was far too long despite the place not being overly crowded. Aside from that, our request to be seated a little bit away from blaring music was denied as allegedly the tables were reserved. This place is more simple, more low-key, less trendy than say a Guapos or Uncle Julios or Chevys. The menu is similar to Uncle Julios and Guapos, not so much Chevys. They have a special menu that includes a 4 pound lobster. We get the steak fajitas in all the above-mentioned places, and they are excellent here. The hubby is happy he can order a pound of steak fajitas from their menu. I noticed a lot of other people getting the tacos, but we like the fajitas so much we always end up getting it. Maybe we will one day try that lobster. This isn't an authentic Mexican food place - it is Tex-Mex. There's a difference. read more

We always head to the rio for Uncle Julio's which has similar prices but way better quality food, service and atmosphere. Salsa is like canned tomato sauce and guacamole has to. Mi Rancho is one of those great restaurants to have nearby when you want a simple, well prepared meal and a tasty margarita or ice cold Tecate. They have a nice patio in the summer and the dining room is large enough to accommodate large groups and a lot of tables--there is generally only a wait during Friday/Saturday prime time. The free chips and salsa are great and eliminate the need to order any appetizers (although I've heard that their tortilla soup is quite good). The entrees cover the full Tex-Mex food spectrum--quesadillas, tamales, tacos and platters with several variations on the theme of meat, with cheese and tomatoes, wrapped in corn. You can also find several nice steaks and some decent seafood options on the menu if you're aiming for something above and beyond the standard Tex-Mex fare. Fajitas seem to be the most popular item on the menu and it's rare when you leave Mi Rancho not smelling like carne asada and sizzling peppers. I seem to recall enjoying their fried ice cream on a visit but usually I have gorged myself on chips/salsa and have no room for dessert. Service is spotty and they tend to get in the weeds easily--be patient, eat the aforementioned chips and grab a second (or fourth) drink--it's all pretty relaxed at Mi Rancho. read more

On a friday night date with daddy and I no kids and we were going to go to Rio Grande in Gaithersburg but it was packed when we left the movies. He was really in the mood for mexican and I said oh yeah what about Mi Rancho. It's down the street from the house and it's good. Always love the chips and salsa they have Guapos and Mi Rancho beat. I had a frozen Margarita for $5 OMG!! It was the best thing ever. I couldn't stop drinking it. I also had the chicken Quesdilla I had them do it with spinach it was really good a little to heavy on the cheese though. I almost couldn't taste the chicken. Daddy ordered the Monterrey enchilada he thought it had beef but it's all cheese. He was so mad but the waiter took care of us and bought us the beef no extra charge. The staff was friendly and the food was prompt. Another great experience at Mi Rancho and we hadn't been there in at least 2 yrs. read more

I had a craving for Mexican food and a need to be in a lively environment. Neither of those needs were met at Mi Rancho. We sat outside (maybe this was our mistake) and it was just dead. There was no music playing so we could hear all the conversations at the 3 tables that were seated. We asked the waitress about the music and she said they were working on it but it never came on. This place was very overpriced for mediocre food and slow service. The first thing I noticed was the price... $15 for a taco salad with beef? I the ordered a Strawberry Margarita and a bowl of guacamole to start. We got the margaritas and they were pretty small and in a cheap crappy plastic "glass". They were pretty weak, I could hardly tell that there was alcohol in it at all. Next, the guac arrived. Holy hell, it was just some mushed avocado and tomato slices, it had no spices or flavor. Once the main course came, I was very skeptical. What I got was what I expected... which was not good, not good at all. The enchiladas had crappy American cheese on them while being filled with dry beef. Brown lettuce and a pathetic half-assed pile of liquid sour cream were served on the side. I basically just filled up and tried to get out of there as soon as possible. I'm never going back here. read more

We have been going to this location off and on. On our first visit it was hands down excellent. Now we decided to go with our friends from out of town. There were 7 of us. I like to point out that the flavor of all the dishes were really good and authentic. Now here is were the problem is: none of the dishes except the fajitas were hot. There were all lukewarm . I assume not even 120 degrees. We did not want to cause a Szene by returning the dishes to get reheated. I would have done it if we were only 2 or 3 people in the party. I like to point this out to you, this way I hope it can be corrected in the future. read more

I think growing up in southern California spoiled me too much. This is not authentic Mexican food. Far from it. If you have never been to the south western part of the US then maybe you'd like the place. I have been to Texas and have had Tex Mex too. It's still not quite the same. I have actually tried to give this place more than one chance since you can't get good Mexican food around here. I have tried the chicken enchilada plate, beef enchiladas, tamale, and tacos al carbon. First, the chips are alright, probably from the grocery store and not homemade. The salsa is bland, watery, no flavor, no spice AT ALL. The enchiladas were room temperature, not very good. The tamale was so dry. Tamales are supposed to be moist and flavorful, melt in your mouth goodness. These were not even close to being the real thing. The beans were GROSS. I hated them. They are more southern style pork and beans rather than real refried pinto beans. The rice was nasty too. I never once got a tingle in my mouth from any sort of spice. Not even a hint of spice! This is supposed to be Mexican food! Nothing is spicy?? The only thing I like here are the tacos al carbon only because of the way the meat tastes. But their idea of tacos al carbon are strips of steak rolled up into a flour tortilla. That's it, nothing else inside. Just meat and tortilla. they are kind of expensive for only getting 2 tacos. I felt like everything here was over priced but again, that could be my inner southern Californian talking... Probably a cool place to drink though. They have a pretty fun looking bar and nice patio seating outside. I've seen the margaritas people order and they look pretty good. I really wanted to like this place! I tried so hard! But I'm just so disappointed. I will say though, if you're not used to REAL Mexican food then you'd probably be satisfied with this place. If you know authentic Mexican food then you'll definitely be disappointed. Unfortunately, there really isn't any good Mexican food around here so I guess if I had to pick, this place will be your best option. I'm going to try this place again surprisingly. When I've had that big lobster plate and the fajitas I'll come back and review again. It's kind of hard to mess up fajitas. Sigh... I miss California. UPDATE 12/9/12: I have given this place more chances and I will still stand by what I say that it's not real Mexican food. However, I have fallen in love with their fajitas. They are SO GOOD! I always get the Veracruz platter that comes with either steak or chicken (or both) and 3 jumbo shrimp wrapped with bacon. I crave those shrimps! I even tried their ribs on the plato grande platter and I love those too (I'll post a pic)! I also finally tried their margaritas and they are delicious. They come in every flavor you could imagine and have a generous amount of tequila. I am a fan of the banana one. Another thing I noticed is I think they have made improvements to their salsa. It has much more flavor than it used to. Something I wish I had known before, you can actually request their hot salsa which I think is a tomatillo based salsa. It's VERY hot which is nice because I like spicy. If you want hotter salsa ask for the hot one! Another thing I appreciate is that all of their tortillas are homemade. I think their chips are homemade now too. Definitely better than what they used to be. I updated my rating to 3 stars. My final verdict: don't go in there expecting tu abuelita's cocina. However, anything with meat in it they totally rock. I highly recommend the fajitas, ribs, and shrimp. I would avoid enchiladas or tamales. read more

Wow what a shocker! I took my brother-in-law to dinner as a thank you and he picked Mexican. Mi Rancho is in the hood so we made our way there. First off, the staff there is extremely friendly and welcoming. But I digress...each of us ordered a margarita on the rocks and then an order of guacamole. A rather small scoop of said guac arrived with our drinks, and we placed our order...quesadillas for him and a taco salad for me. One more margarita was ordered for the brother-in-law and we finished up. The check arrived and i literally almost lost my dinner. With a nice tip, our bill came to almost $100. I had to look again thinking my glasses may have fogged, but nope...one hundred big ones! I mean, come on...let's be real here - the food is marginal at best and yes, their paper thin chips are divine, but no....$100 for three drinks, a sad order of guacamole and two entrees is beyond outrageous. Hey, Mi Rancho! This is GERMANTOWN, not Manhattan. Needless to say, Señor Tequila's is right across the street and not only are they cheaper but the margarita's are better....just sayin. read more

Went recently and did not like it at all. Food lacked taste and service was horrible. My daughter ordered cheese and chicken quesadilla and got a quesadilla with cheese only. When we brought it to the waitress" attention she took the food from in front of my daughter and did not apologize for the mistake. Our family was eating while my daughter waited for her food.
