My site contact had mentioned staying in Paris, TX but it was almost an hour away from the site so I went to the internet to see if I could find something closer. The Hochabel Hotel had come up as a viable option with decent reviews. I was a little worried when I arrived because there wasn't very many vehicles in the parking lot. However, after checking in to my room I was pleased to see that it was fairly new and clean. I stopped in the Hochabel Bar and Grill for supper and was quite pleased with the service and food quality. They had a full bar and quite a few decent menu options. Allie and Misty were the only ones working the front of the house and I was a bit nervous that they would not be able to keep up with the crowd at first but they both were working feverishly to keep up and did a fantastic job. Not only did Allie and Misty rush around the bar taking orders and delivering drinks to keep up with the rush but they also still remained cordial and conversational. Great small town feel and high quality food.

The owner (or an owner;someone important) did come by to collect feedback and even removed the food from our bill. Fast forward to last night, I gave this place another chance, and I can say that I am glad that I did. The food was seasoned, but not seasoned too much, and the bartender was a sweet guy who knew how to make a satisfying drink (Ring the Hochabel). He got a very nice tip to say the least. Compared to my first visit, it was a total 180 on the food quality. I was not blown away, but it was good. Minor complaint regarding my fries coming out Luke Warm (my other food was piping hot; what happened?). Any longer and they would have been Catherine Cold. Come here and try it out!

It felt like a community. We got to meet the owner. He is a winner of the cooking tv show Chopped. A very nice, humble man who loves what he does. My favorites though are the beef pho (PERFECT), the Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef and the scrumptious dumplings. Ok, so try ordering just six of those dumplings and see how that works out for ya! Just order a dozen, ok? They are served piping hot and are accompanied by a delicious homemade dipping sauce. The Mongolian Beef includes many delicious vegetables and the large portion is served with an equally large portion of fried rice. The service is attentive and friendly. They truly care that you enjoy the food. The interior is simply decorated. However, there are numerous lovely paintings that were painted by the restaurant owner. Such a nice touch!
