On a cross country roadtrip and decided to stop at a local Mexican food joint right off the interstate. We read the reviews and saw the negative ones and thought surely they just had a one off experience. Nope. Our visit was consistent with the negative reviews. My wife got the cheese enchilada. Literally a glob of mozzarella cheese. The chili enchilada sauce tasted like they poured it out of a can. I got the grilled chicken and rice. They put this awful cheese sauce on it. My wife and I were visiting family nearby and brother-in-law knew I favored Mexican. He said there was a nearby place that always seemed to have a full parking lot, weekdays or weekends. We arrived around 6:30 PM on a Thursday evening. Sure enough the parking lot was almost full but we managed to grab one of the few remaining spots. Our party of four were seated immediately and seconds later hot chips and salsa arrived with the waitress and she took our drink order, along with an order of queso blanco, white cheese. I also requested hot salsa. Some places give you their regular salsa and a bottle of extra sauce to mix yourself. Nope, they brought a bowl of salsa with a nice kick. A large menu and full bar was impressive. Our family also ran into several families from their town and church. He asked what was good here and they all answered "Everything!" They decided on a Taco Salad for her and Burrito plate for him. My wife and I decided to try Dinner Special for two. This included a burrito, two tacos, a chili relleno, a tamale, a chalupa, an enchilada and beans & rice. This came on 4 plates! And the price was several dollars less than two individual meals. Wow! The managers are really bad and inappropriate, both managers Leo and the short guy in glasses tried inappropriately in a sexual manner touch and squeeze my hands, called me miss nurse and other inappropriate names instead of addressing me by my name on multiple occasions. Went here on a trip with the hubs to ride the "Back of the Dragon" from Marion, VA to Tazewell, VA along the Appalachian mountains. We came back to Marion to stay overnight before returning home to NC. They have a vast menu, so if you are not familiar with Mexican food in their authentic name, it takes you a few minutes to decide what you want. They also have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options! There is something for everyone to chose. I ordered the 2 ground beef hard-shell tacos plate with rice and beans and a pineapple soda. The hubs ordered the fried quesadilla w/ham, beef and pork and a DR PEPPER! A note: there was a family birthday table (I assume) of maybe 20 guest next to us and despite that going on, the service was excellent and we received our food and refilled drinks quickly. I would recommend all my riding buddies going to the Back of the Dragon to stop here for delicious and affordable food (compared to what good food and decent portions we received). read more

They have a section of their menu dedicated to vegetarians, and you can make any of those meals vegan by requesting no cheese or sour cream! Food was great, service was super fast and friendly. This would have been five stars had we not ordered the flan. It was completely incongruous with the rest of the meal. How do you rate a restaurant that you were kind of looking forward to because it was a total local dive in the middle of a small Virginian town, when you didn't really get to eat there because the power went out and the kitchen could no longer prepare our orders? But the facilities were very clean, the staff were very friendly and apologetic about the power outage. They didn't charge my father and me for the cokes that we had ordered. But since we only munched on the chips and salsa, I can't really comment on anything else. I was happy that they had some seriously hot chili sauce on the table. My wife and I came here to eat while visiting downtown Marion. She enjoyed the shrimp fajita lunch special and they were nice enough to let her switch out the beans and rice with French fries. I was not a fan of the dip they gave out with the chips- a combination of cheese and beans. It was just weird, and I would have much preferred salsa. Partially my fault for not asking.
