Who would have thought that in the middle of a residential street and through an alley, that a huge and beautiful restaurant would be lurking, waiting to give you delicious chips, salsa and cheap margaritas.
We did come here with one of the locals, otherwise we would have never come on our own. Not because we didn't want to, but I don't think anyone outside of the area even knows it's there... it's well hidden, but I heard it gets busy during sporting events and fights. It was neither of these instances, so the place was dead.
As we walked in, we all stared in awe at the huge illuminated pinata hanging from the ceiling. We were even more excited when we got to sit right underneath it.
Since we had just finished a massive meal a few hours earlier, we weren't hungry and we had some time to kill. We figured we'd pass it with some cocktails and it ended up being a smart move. They have a pretty extensive menu full of tequilas, fruity drinks and other colorful concoctions... super cheap, too!
I went with the tamarindo margarita. I love the flavor and never knew that it came in this frozen form. I do have to say, it was probably the best blended cocktail I've ever had. Not only was the tamarind flavor nice and refreshing, they added chili flakes into the mix so that you're getting a nice kick with every gulp. If we didn't have plans to meet for Yelp TJ's event right after, I might have considered having a second or third... I liked it that much.
Well all ordered different things, but when it was all said and done, our tab for eight people came out to $23USD.
Service and ambiance were great. I HAVE to come back for another tamarindo margarita the next time I'm south of the border! read more
