The food was tasty - but not radically different from what you get in California. The staff was very eager to tailor our experience while there: we visited on New Year's Eve and though the staff had a large event to run, they made an effort to serve the handful of people that just wanted a bite quite well. The prices were really good and though the restaurant feels a little bright, it was comfortable and a nice place to get away. You'll have a good memory and will want to go back but it might take a few trips to find something uniquely special on the menu - it's great Mexican food. read more

This place seemed really convenient since it was one of the dining places in the hotel, so I tried it. The place was really simple and did not have a lot of people around. The food seemed fine and we ordered from the bar. I ordered a Cadillac margarita and it was fantastic. The flauta's plate was ok, my expectations were hopeful of flour tortillas instead of corn and the flavor lacked In meat. Food is a bit Americanized but still a solid meal. we really enjoyed a relaxing and quiet meal. Reviews looked good and place was empty and we was hungry so came here with the family. Let's start of with my scale: 5 Stars - Would Drive 35min + to this place and highly recommend 4 Stars - Would eat here again if in the local area and might recommend 3 Stars - Nothing to write home about. As I walked through the arched entrance I noticed the decor of Mexico is punctuated with plastered walls painted in hues of earth-toned colors, large paintings, and hand carved wooden chairs. The restaurant offers a full bar with a well thought out menu and excellent customer service. From the moment we sat down our server took exceptionally great care of us. We started with a margarita of Corazon tequila and lime as we pondered the lunch menu. It was snack time, so to avoid ruining dinner we shared an entree of yellowtail, vegetables and refried beans. When our dishes arrived we were offered fresh bread and whimsically shaped butter on the side which was a nice change from the tortillas that are omnipresent in Mexico. The beans and vegetables were delicious, however the yellowtail was a bit over cooked and the kitchen had not removed the bloodline which has a strong fishy flavor that I am not fond of. I requested a bit of spicy sauce that was divine and when I return I will definitely request that chile sauce again. Azteca is a great choice for dining in Rosarito Beach as it offers ocean views, good food, outstanding service and is a great way to escape the loud and cheezy restaurants studding the tourist zone. read more

Came for Sunday brunch. They have variety of Mexican dishes. Perhaps about 15 different choices to choose from (excluding fruit and soup). We came early at 7:30 AM and the omelette station wasn't ready so can't comment on that. Overall, it was alright except for a few standouts. Good god their fish fillet in green sauce is amazing. I'm so used to eating fish that's obviously frozen, so it was a spectacular delight to taste fish that's so fresh and creamy. The green sauce didn't have a very strong taste, so it complements the fish very well. Interesting to see the lady make fresh quesadillas in front of you, and they tasted good! Nice and crispy on the edges with gooey queso in the middle. Beef tripe soup? Sorry I forgot to get the name of this, but it's like the Mexican soup version of beef stomach from dim sum (牛雜). Interesting take! Jamaican water is basically berry drink of blueberry (and açaí?) Pretty cool. And, it wasn't too sour! read more

Azteca is the restaurant located inside the Rosarito Beach Hotel. The Hotel itself is old school and the original structure goes back to the 1920's. I hadn't eaten at the restaurant here in a long time and it has going through different reincarnations throughout the years. We came in mid-week and it was pretty quiet. The menu has your typical Mexican fare. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner. We started with Margaritas. They did not blow me away and the mix tasted like the Speedy Gonzalez Margarita Mix you get in the States. I didn't taste very much tequila. I went with a Mexican combo plate with enchiladas, a chili relleno and a flauta. It was good for the most part, but with all the options around town, I don't think I would drive out of my way to have a meal here again. They do have a cool bar, and the service was excellent. If you were staying at the hotel, than this would be a convenient option for a meal. read more

Since we stayed at the Rosarito Beach Hotel and Azteca is located on the property, we ate here three times over our stay. On the first night, I ordered the chicken enchiladas as a late night meal. It had taken us longer than expected to arrive and we barely made it downstairs to the restaurant before they closed. I didn't have long to look at the menu and decide so I stuck with my traditional Mexican go-to. While the enchiladas weren't the best that I've ever had, they were perfectly fine. The rice, however, I wasn't a fan of as it was rather bland. We returned to Azteca the following morning for their breakfast buffet, which happened to be included in our Living Social resort deal. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the buffet. I've never tried chilaquiles before, mainly because I'm afraid to commit to a whole plate of something new, but I was excited to try them at the buffet. Even my friends who have regularly eaten chilaquiles raved about them so I think I picked a good spot to try. Both the read and green were delicious but I'm slightly partial to the green sauce, which has a bit of a tang to it. The breakfast potatoes were wonderful but it was the French toast which blew me away. I've always loved a good French toast but find that most buffets serve dried up bread. Not so here! This French toast was moist and had a sweet flavor that didn't require any additional syrup. I went back for seconds and maybe thirds. There was also an omelette and quesadilla station but I wasn't a big fan of the topping selection so I skipped it. The beverage bar was nice with horchata (yum!) and orange juice. Plus, our deal included a complimentary mimosa so that was nice perk! The Sunday buffet is even a step above the Saturday one. As such, there was also an additional cost of $11 per person but it was well worth it. The freshly sliced beef was a nice bonus as was the dessert bar. There was also a fresh made waffle bar but I didn't try it because I continued to be obsessed with the French toast. Overall, I was largely impressed with this hotel restaurant. We managed to start both of our mornings with full breakfasts that left us stuffed for the majority of the day so both our bellies and wallets were happy. read more

I ordered the Chinchillas with egg and it was wonderful. We also ordered the giant breakfast which they were more than happy to substitute for French Toast and that was also pleasant. The Azteca Restaurant and Bar located off the main lobby of the Rosarito Beach Hotel serves Mexican and Continental entrees with the famous Puerto Nuevo style lobster as one of the house specialties. The Azteca had excellent service - it could not have been better. For breakfast the machaca was good, as was the vegetarian omelet and the camarones (shrimp) omelet. The orange and cactus juice blend was great. The shrimp cocktails are mucho bueno. The piano player said he was there from 10 to 3. The bar lets you take drinks to your room. We took a pitcher of marguerita to avoid a second trip. Our table by the window had a small plaque next to it on the wall that said Table 17 was the favorite of actor Robert Stack. Meh. The food was probably the worst I have had in Mexico. Ceviche was rubbery. Carnitas tacos were kinda grizzly. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I was kinda disappointed after eating so much good stuff this trip. We also got some chicken flautas that were just meh. I am so thankful for this restaurant especially as a guest at Rosarito Beach Hotel because there is always some kind of deal going on that keeps me coming back for more. I love their buffets on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They offer a variety of authentic Mexican dishes with fresh ingredients. The quesadillas for example are made with handmade- in-front-of-you tortillas. Pancakes, omelettes and waffles are all made in front of you as well. Unlike some of the Mexican buffets here in the states they batch cook and let their food just sit their and get stale. To my surprise the cooks at the buffet work super fast and hard to get everyone back to their tables and enjoy their meals as quickly as possible. Make sure you drop some money their jars whenever you can to let them know how much they are appreciated. Otherwise go back home to stale buffet food. Enough raving about their buffet, let's move on with their regular menu. My only suggestion is for them to have more vegetarian and plant based options. Their blended drinks though are amazing and made with frozen fruit. The best part of all is that their prices are super affordable yet competitive with other restaurants outside of the hotel. read more

The breakfast that came with our hotel stay Groupon was for scrambled eggs with chorizo or bacon, with chilaquiles, refried beans, coffee and glorious FRESHLY-MADE tortillas, hand made and griddled right in the middle of the dining room. Light scrambled eggs with just the right amount of chorizo, not greasy, great salsa on the side, and Ohh, those tortillas!! On a separate lunch we shared a shrimp cocktail and chile rellenos--fresh Chiles, not-too-heavy batter- only downfall was most cheese had leaked out of one relleno. Everything here has been delicious. We have had very generous portions and they have a value menu which is good and filling for the bargain price of $8. Plus they have a full menu. This place has old Mexican charm. The Thanksgiving dinner was amazing, who knew that one could get such a fabulous "an American classic Turkey Dinner" in Mexico? Our daughter loved it! Also a bottle of local wine startes out at $14! A big bowl of local fresh fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, bananas, honeydew, papaya, pineapples enough for two to share for $3.50! Staying at the Rosarito Beach Resort with a Travelzoo coupon so had lots of freebies here. The ceviche was a nice appetizer at the bar (I got it two days in a a row, I recommend asking for corn chips instead of the saltines). Had breakfast at the restaurant and enjoyed the shrimp omelette... So good. The music and ambiance was hit and miss... But the characters in the bar were always fun. One night there was hilarious Symphony Orchestra music overhead, interspersed with a guy playing epic classic movie theme songs badly (think Dr Zhivago, and "Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder, etc). Still, it was great fun. The next afternoon, when it was very busy, a lady in the corner of the bar played Mexican music from her iron, later competing with the piano guy who had returned with more swag than the night before... Hilarity ensued... The place is quaint, a little old fashioned, delicious...and fun. read more
