My husband and I ordered takeout - Peruvian chicken with yucca fries and plantains for my husband and saltado for me. They were both amazingly good! I loved the flavor of the saltado, and the rice was cooked perfectly. The fries to soak up all the delicious sauce was also nice, and I didn't mind the double carbs. Excellent lunch -- ceviche appetizer along with the choros and papas a la huancaina (4 people), then an entre of aji de gallina. My friend's lomo saltado was delish -- super tender beef. A co-worker recommened me to this place a few months ago because he read an article in a local newspaper about their Lomo Saltado. Well I'm going to be brief, their Lomo Saltado was amazing; it was juicy, the meat was tender and had a flavor that for a moment transported me back to Peru. It was hard to find a good Peruvian restaurant so I'm happy to have this place. Also the beans and rice were delicious!! when you walk in you're greeted with a sound of bumping music from peru and you just want to shake your hips! but i come for the food. lunch time is a good time come because they have a handful of options and it's plenty of food to keep you full for the rest of the day. my wife got a lunch special with fried tilapia. it was fried just right and there was a lot of meat. but what she really loved was the yellow sauce that is tangy and a bit of a spice. it really made the dish special. you also get 2 sides like plantains or fries or rice - your choice! i got the lomo saltado which is a meat dish over rice and fries with an awesome sauce with onions and tomatoes. i really likes the sauce and the rice but overall the dish was salty. it was definitely big enough for me and i was full but it could have been better. be ready to spend over $15 per person. but i really want to try to the fried seabass. ambiance wise you can't expect much from a plaza restaurant but it's cozy and has the peruvian deco. but i'd be back! the price was pretty good for the lunch special!!! get the lunch special!!! read more

I ate at this lovely restaurant today for their second day in business. After having lived in Peru for a few years, I can vouch for this establishment's authenticity. I started out with the "papa a la huancaina." It's a delicious potato with spicy cream of Andean origin. I had the "leche de tigre" for my entree. This is a seafood dish from the Peruvian Coast. It was as if I was at Barranco's cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. My girlfriend had the "lomo saltado." This is a fusion dish that has steak, tomatoes, onions, and fried potatoes doused with special Peruvian soy sauce. I ordered the "alfajores" for dessert. This is a sweet and delicious Peruvian pastry. Just the "manjar" cream that fills the powder sugar dusted pastry is enough to keep you coming back to Durham's best new restaurant for more. The only small suggestion I have would be to add some of Peru's finest beverages to the menu such as Pisco Sour, Cusqueña, Cristal, and Pilsen. read more

My dog too - I had to share because she was drooling on my sofa (literally). I think I got someone else's take out order because there was also a cup of fish soup in there. Or maybe they just do that? I don't eat fish, so, I can't review that. This is an awesome replacement for inka Peruvian which closed and opened with a whole new menu. Been searching for a new place for good Peruvian food and now I think I have found it. Love Peruvian food and have had it in multiple cities throughout the US as well as in Peru. Had choros ala chalaca they were mild and not spicy enough for my taste, but awesome flavor. Also had ceviche mixto which was an awesome mix. They did bring me a side of a what tasted like rocoto mix to assist with the spice level. For an appetizer we had the causa pollo, it was mild flavored but a must have. The service was a blast with our waitress was very fun. This place is a must if you like Peruvian food. read more

Very good Peruvian food at a reasonable price. I've been to Peru (the country) maybe 6 times now, and I always miss the food when I get back to the states. Mi Peru has some really great Lomo Saltado (beef stir fried with onion, tomato, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and cilantro) usually served over fries or other fried potatoes. I highly recommend this if its your first time trying Peruvian food. Unless you're more adventurous, then go the ceviche route. I have also tried their rotisserie chicken which is better than most other rotisserie style chicken you can find in the area... Though it does not match the flavor of the chicken I've had in Peru. But, $7.99 for 1/4 chicken and two sides, you can't really complain. Inside the restaurant it looks like any average take-out place that offers basic seating. Not quite the place for a romantic dinner, but it isn't trying to be. This is my only reason for -1 star. If I could give 4.5 I would. Service has been great each time I've come, no complaints there. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise and definitely reminds me of the Peruvian places back home in NY. Great food, home-y atmosphere and friendly service with a smile, you can't really go wrong with that, right?! We ordered the whole chicken (which was seasoned perfectly) with yucca fries on the side and the fried seafood platter (which also comes with the fried yucca, so order a different side with chicken, unless you love yucca fries of course! :) We also had the passion fruit drink and it was quite delish as well. Between our party of 2 adults and 1 child, this was more than enough to stuff our tummies silly and bring home extras and yes, everything was just as delicious the next day! This was my first visit and I ordered the Saltado Vegetariano, a nice blend of veggies with a side of rice. It was exactly what I wanted for lunch and very filling. We were excited to see a new Peruvian restaurant open up, especially one with such interesting dishes. Our normal Peruvian spot is amazing, but offers a limited menu that can get boring after a while. We enjoyed several dishes at Mi Perú, but there were also a few we'll be skipping next time. The Good: The Ceviche appetizer was extremely good. Fresh, bright, lemony...perfect really. The Chicharron de Pollo was also extremely good. Crispy, well-seasoned chunks of chicken with a yummy dipping sauce. Finally the Jalea Mixta...perfectly fried, well seasoned seafood. Who doesn't like that? The cod pieces were especially tasty. What can tend to be a bland fish was very flavorful and had the perfect texture. The Not So Good: The Cuasa de Pollo was very bland, dry, and did not have a nice texture. It was supposed to have pulled chicken, but it must have been pureed first, b/c we could not detect it (by texture or flavor). If they had incorporated some larger chunks of the flavorful charcoal rotisserie chicken, and maybe a bit more sauce for moisture, it might have been an amazing dish. The Chicken Arroz Chaufa was also a big letdown. The rice was very bland, and the chicken had no flavor whatsoever. This is our favorite dish at other places, where its usually full of green onion, large chunks of scrambled egg, and loaded with yummy, smokey, charcoal rotisserie chicken. This chaufa tasted like they took a plain, unseasoned chicken breast and warmed it in the microwave before chopping it up and adding it to the rice. Very disappointing. While there were good and not so good dishes, we will definitely give this place another shot. They are newly opened, and may still be perfecting recipes/working out some kinks. Plus, the good dishes are worth the risk, and there are many other menu items we'd like to try out. read more

I haven't had extensive experience with Pervuian food but I really liked this place! It's a very casual place with just a few front-workers. I was seated immediately and service was as good as I'd expect. Everyone was friendly. My BF and I split a whole rotisserie chicken which was more than enough and provided leftovers. For the sides we got the sweet plantains and rice. Chicken came out with some sort of sauce, tasted a bit mustard-y and vinegar-y, and just a tad spicy. Okay, so that doesn't sound good but I swear it is! The chicken was oh so moist, juicy, and just downright delicious! And the plantains were cut thickly, fried perfectly, and sweet. Rice was not too dry and portions were decent. The meal was really basic but it was very good! I will definitely return. read more

My fiancee and I visited Mi Perú on a Saturday night just after 6pm. We were seated quickly but that was the only thing timely about our experience. I will start by saying I feel like this place is going through some growing pains. There were 5 tables seated including ours and only two servers. Our server was obviously new. It took more than 10 minutes to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to bring them out. We came prepared to order the rotisserie chicken which is the baseline for peruvian cuisine. We were really disappointed to find they were out of chicken that early on a Saturday night. We ordered the bistec a lo pobre, the roast beef dish with cilantro, and papa a la huancaina as a starter. The papa a la huancaina was decent. It was neither chilled nor hot which is an odd temperature to receive food in a restaurant. The potatoes are boiled and sliced and the sauce wasn't anything to write home about, lacking any bold flavor to make up for the bland potatoes. We left quite a bit uneaten. The bistec a lo pobre was very good but, be forewarned, is very salty. Salty as in country ham level salty. It works very well, though, eaten with the potatoes, rice, egg and plantain. The potatoes are pretty much generic frozen french fries, a lot of room for improvement there. The plantain was very flavorful and probably the best thing on the plate. The roast beef dish was a last minute audible when we were told they had run out of chicken. It ended up being the best thing on the table. The cilantro rub gave the beef a nice herbal flavor and, if you enjoy onion with beef, the quick pickled red onion and cilantro served on the side balance it nicely. All-in-all this place has some potential but needs to get the service side taken care of. The restaurant was extremely cold especially when the hood from the kitchen was on high and pulling cold air from outside into the seating area. The pricing is reasonable. We will be going back and hopefully enjoying the rotisserie chicken, after which I will update this review. read more

This is a great place for Peruvian cuisine. Ceviche has become a trendy dish, and this is the best place I've found in the Triangle for ceviche. The rotisserie chicken is also great. I gained such a fondness for ceviche after visiting Lima, Aguas Calientes, and Cusco, where it was amazing. I think Mi Peru quite closely approximates the amazingness of the ceviche in Peru. Great casual dining spot! I stopped in around 3 so it was quiet. The girl at the countered polite and offered me to seat where I wanted. When she came to the table I ask was she suggested and she told me either the Seco De Res or Saltado. I was eyeing the Seco so I went with that. The dish comes with tender delicious beef served over canary beans, shaved red onion and white rice. The red onion was a nice accompaniment to the savory dish. I dashed it with a little hot sauce and the rest is history. I will be back to try the saltado. read more

We stumbled across this gem randomly after being ravenous coming straight from the airport. My boyfriend and I are big fans of Peruvian food and haven't found a decent spot since living in NYC. The ceviche is to die for. I always get the Lomo Saltado. The prices are extremely reasonable for food as well as their alcoholic beverages. Be prepared to ask for a to go box since their portion sizes are very generous. The staff is more than courteous and looking to serve great food to friendly customers. We've lived in the Chapel Hill area for about a month now and have already been back 4 times. Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot! They'll prove it worth your while. read more

We have returned many times since we first discovered Mi Peru. Lovely restaurant hidden away in an unassuming strip mall. The seafood soup is packed with flavor. The fish is amazing. I very much enjoy getting the steak and drizzling it with green sauce. Of course, you can't go wrong with the rotisserie chicken. And finish it off with a sweet alfajores! read more
