Spontaneous date night brought us to Mi Dia randomly after seeing the cute bird... we had no idea what cuisine it was. We secured a great patio spot, lovely and spacious area both inside and out. Prompt service, helpful waiter, overall good food. We split the: -chips were good. The bf practically drank the salsa because he loved it so much. -tostaditas de ceviche was yum with an extra crunch. -chipotle bacon quesadillas was oozing with messy goodness but satisfying to eat... did not taste any cheese but the onions were a nice touch. -conchinita pibil was so much fun ! It was like a make your own taco kit with the good stuff wrapped up in a banana leaf and the sauce in shot glass. Tastes great too. -new mexico tampiquena medium rare was tender and juicy combined with a delicious sauce. very heavy though. Overall interesting flavors and pretty good experience. I hate to be a Debbie Downer against all the good reviews on this restaurant, but I have no choice. This was my first time to visit and I sat at the bar. The place is really nice and I was hoping for a really nice experience. I will begin with a positive...The bartender was knowledgeable about the wine I was interested in. Now for the negative... The wine glass was cloudy from possibly being polished with a towel that was maybe not so clean? I love having my wine served in a really clean wine glass...maybe I ask too much? The salsa was too hot for my liking and they did not have a medium version. Bummer. The most aggravating part of my visit was the gnats. They were flying around everywhere. One was floating in my brother's drink. Ugh. I spent my entire visit swatting at these pest! There is a way to control this menace and why they haven't researched or hired a service to fix the problem beats me. I truly wish I could say something nice about my first time here. I came back one hot Texas Saturday for lunch. Whilst sitting under the Big Ass Fans (this is a real brand, google it) in the patio, I found out that they put bacon in their guacamole upon request (GENIUS). They also make awesome Micheladas (not on the menu) with your choice of beer. I recommend the Tecate. The Ox Eyes Stacked Enchiladas were delicious - they were served with two different excellent sauces, both with a nice bit of heat and flavor. The over easy egg provided great flavor. I'm going to be honest here...the food is outstanding. You couldn't ask for better food. The atmosphere is pretty cool as well, so chill and fun. The prices, fairly high, but the food is worth it. How is the service, you ask? Awful. Three of us walked in on a fairly busy night, nothing overwhelming. There were four...FOUR people behind the host stand and they ignored us. Since when do you have to let the host know you're ready to be helped. Sorry to interrupt your conversation by making you do your job. We sat at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender asked for my ID, my friend's ID, but not my boyfriend's? She just asked him if he was 21. Ummmm...that's discrimination. Then when our table was ready, she made us close our tab...excuse me miss, but we aren't done drinking. Then the waiter forgot our guacamole. No big deal there. When we were about ready for more drinks, he took our drink menu and gave it to another table. We were still eating our chips and guacamole when he tried to take them. We told him we weren't done and his exact words were "Oh, I just stuck my finger in the chips, would you still like them?" Are you kidding me? I then informed him that we wanted more drinks and needed the menu he gave away, back. He proceeded to go to another table and take their drink menu. While we were looking at the drink menu, he asked if we wanted our checks. No dude...we want to spend more money here and buy more drinks. Was he blind? Deaf? Who knows. I do know one thing, he was an awkward jerk. No authenticity. No genuine concern. We were just bothering him, again, by making him do his job. What a disaster. With the money this place brings in, they should probably give their staff adequate training. I'm very disappointed in this establishment that people speak so highly of. Christmas comes before your dinner... We've eaten here more than several times, and the service/front of house has never really been good...but today it's complete and utter horse droppings. Way worse than ever before. We were quoted 45 min - 1hr wait for outside. Fine. It's Good Friday and the weather is nice. The problem is that while you wait for your table, you watch people wait for their check - food bagged, table cleared - for 15 minutes. The TWO tables next to them sit empty. They were empty when you arrived. You finally ask about it and they tell you it's reserved for their executive chef - at 7. What time is it now? 5:30. So that's 3 tables, on the patio, for all intents and purposes sitting empty, for over half an hour while you quote guests a 45 minute wait. We also watched them seat a family at a broken table, that the guests are now counterweighting with their feet. Nice. The front of house and management here is a menagerie of a** hats. This was the most unique Mexican food experience that I have ever had at a restaurant. The classics are there of course but what really took me aback, particularly as someone who studies Mexican cuisine like I'm being paid for it, was that there were things there that I had never seen before. First time going here and I was impressed. The decorations are very modern and sleek. It was a rainy night so it was a bit dark in the restaurant but we sat outside. The outside area is a bit cramped (I kept getting knocked around by the guac cart which hurt the experience overall). They might need to take out a couple tables so you have more room. We each got a margarita and they were fabulous! I got the house marg on the rocks and it was $8. A bit expensive but it's definitely a more upscale restaurant. The strawberry margarita on the rocks everyone else had was a bit too sweet for me but the rest of the table enjoyed it. I had the mi dia salad which was delicious! Most people wouldn't get a salad at a Mexican restaurant but I had already had a bit too much queso (which was also yummy). The lemon vinaigrette was refreshing and the steak fajitas were perfectly cooked. The jicama added a great crunch as well. I am incredibly mixed about how I want to rate this place.. The first hour of our visit was really great but then it turned bizarre. Okay so first things first - this place is super cute inside, includes a bar, lots of interior tables and a great patio (with an outside bar as well). The vibe and atmosphere is trendy, but not stuffy. It reminds me of a place that I love in Scottsdale. Awesome tex-mex with flair and a fun drink menu all of their margs are made "skinny!" The weather was perfect so we snagged a table on the patio and decided we would spend a few hours hanging out! Our waitress was really helpful and attentive - off to a great start! We started with the monthly special margarita and tableside guac. The drinks were tasty and the gauc was perfect. The portion size is huge, I mean so huge that we were so full we couldn't even think about ordering more food. We were probably there for an hour or so and decided to order another drink - a basic margarita. Another hour or so passes - we are still full from the bigger than our head gauc bowl, but wanted to keep enjoying the weather so we ordered another drink. The patio was crowded but there were still a few tables open so we didn't feel badly about keeping our table. We would have for sure moved to the bar if they need to turn the table. Here is where it turns bizarro and not so great... let me just remind you, we had been at the place for prob 3 or more hours and ate gauc the size of our head... we asked to order one more drink, our waitress took our order and off she went. She returned a few minutes later empty handed and said we needed to order a meal. WTH just happened? I understand having to have food with alcohol, etc...But we ate a huge portion of guac and chips AND we had been there for a long while. We were far from being tipsy, nevermind drunk. Weird Weird. It would have been fine, if the situation was handled differently, ie, tell us up front or something. IDK, it just felt weird and it totally ruined our great day on the patio. We promptly asked for our check and left. I loved everything about this place up until that moment - a fab experience with great service and good food (& drinks) turned bad quickly with poor customer service. 5 stars for food and atmosphere; negative stars for customer service. read more

Had the steak quesadillas which were a small portion and overpriced at $9 for the size, but were tasty. Be prepared that sodas are PER CAN and no free refills!!!! 5 people at our table and orders were served at different times, aprox 10 min apart, which is uncomfortable and akward watching your food get cold while you wait for others to get their dish. To be honest I expected a lot better in Texas. It was decent but not overwhelmingly fantastic. I definitely have had better Mexican in NJ and NYC. And for the prices I wasn't wowed. The service was pretty good and the space is nice, I sat at the outdoor patio bar which is a good touch. The chips were good and the salsa good, it definitely had a kick. The house margarita was ok, just regular old sour mix. I would have thought table-side guac would be common in TX but by other reviews it seems it's not. I had some, it was good but way too much heat and just really subtracted from the flavor. I liked it and the bacon was a nice touch. I ordered the blue enchiladas with the egg on top, I forget the name. It was ok. The ground beef was just like any other run of the mill Mexican joint, I expected a lot more than that and overall the whole thing was a bit bland. Maybe my expectations were too high. I did ask for over hard egg and got big ole runny eggs. I was hungry so I just ate it, but if I came back I'd probably skip this. Overall, it was good, for the price...meh it stays at A-OK to me. Ooooh....my....holy heaven. You had me at "table-side guac". Friday night, at Mi Dia was craaay cray. I realize "crazy" is a more appropriate word. Maybe I should say "loco"....anyway, my mind is wandering back to the night where we could barely find a small spot along the bar wall to enjoy our homemade house margarita. There were six of us and we were looking for good Mexican. The girls didn't have a reservation and space was limited. So limited in fact, the wait was so long that even though I was thirty minutes late, we still didn't have a spot until about 20 minutes after I arrived....and we scored a FABU corner booth b/c the manager was awesome and hooked us up. He was literally so cool. We were on a mission to sit outside which is first come, first serve and on a list for inside....somehow we got the booth INSIDE which allowed us to stay warm and cozy up together. Seriously fantastic. This place is hoppin'. If you don't like to wait and you don't like it to be crowded, ummmmm....don't go. It's a VERY intimate restaurant where the tables are close and the bar top is packed. I know it was a Friday but the food was so good, the drinks are flowin' fabulously and the service was impeccable so it was worth it! But ....some people don't like that kind of thing. Anyway - the food. So good! I had the Relleno El Carbon and HOLY SMOKES was there a kick!! Roasted poblano stuffed with pulled pork, topped with queso asadero & crema, served over New Mexico red & tomatillo sauces, Oaxacan black beans & rice. This was truly a fire of flavors in my mouth! And the guac....seriously, from scratch table-side. I die. LOVE. The queso was also tasty and I snagged a bite of the sea bass street taco (OK, I literally stole a whole taco off my friend's plate and devoured it). It was sooo good. Loved the fresh avocado. We needed to find a restaurant fairly near DFW which could serve 8, was higher end and would be easy enough to get to where I could land at DFW @ 7:20 and be seated by 7:45. Mi Dia exceed expectations! We dined al fresco and the architecture is such that outdoors is situated on the shady side of the building, has fans and misters making this a very pleasurable experience for dinner on a 100 degree day. (I would not do this at lunch!) Dinner started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa, here, is incredible and yes, you can purchase it! We tried a wrath of appetizers and my favorite was the tableside guacamole. The waiter highly recommended an item not on the menu: Grilled Sea Bass Tacos, after I explained I wanted to eat healthy, minimize cheese and fatty sauces. The taco's are very fresh and the sea bass is excellent. Included is guacamole, tomatoes and fish on a house-made corn tortilla. Some notes: Free Valet parking is swift and painless Eating outside is a great call as the restaurant is really loud. The margaritas are a must try! Reservations are a MUST! If you are really charming, getting a table quickly for 8, with no rez is do-able. (Dumb move on my part, I didn't realize how "hot" this restaurant is.) The service is impeccable Mi Dia is open for both Lunch and dinner. Texas Law or Grapevine Law prohibits bring in wine. (We did, but weren't allowed to open.) This will replace Javier's for me as a "go-to", high end Tex Mex meets New Mexico fusion genre at a much more reasonable price. read more

Wow. How did I miss out on this restaurant?!? I love Mexican/ Tex Mex food, and this place may be some of the best. The atmosphere is laid back and trendy for a Tex mex place. After being seated, chips and salsa was brought out. This isn't your normal prefried chips and canned salsa. The salsa was fresh and great tasting. We ordered the combo fajita and was recommended a chimichanga. Some of the best we've had. Meats were tender and very well marinated. Portions are huge. The waiter took our order and I'm glad he repeated our order to us before it went to the kitchen as it was not even close. I ordered the Relleno Al Carbon and my wife ordered the Sandy's Combo. The Relleno Al Carbon was served in a over-sized bowl with very high sides. It was very difficult to eat as the fork and knife were hindered by the bowl's edges. If you order this dish tell them you don't want the pretty bowl, you want it on a freaking platter/plate. Common sense people!!!!!!!!! The food over-all was over spiced to the point where it seemed like the food was there to season the spice, not the other way around. Trust me, less is more. We have had better Rellenos from street vendors than served here. Theirs was under-cooked and had a tough texture. We might try the lunch menu at another time, but doubt it. read more

I have been to Mi Dia multiple times and always had a great experience. A couple of weeks ago we dined here for mine and my roommate's birthdays. It was a friday night, and we had made reservations for 10 at 8:30. At 5:30 that night (late, I know), I called to change the reservation to 12 people. The nice gentleman on the phone informed me that he would switch it for us, but informed me that we would have to switch tables. He also mentioned that there was a large group before us at 6:30, which wasn't ideal because they normally give large parties 2 and a half hours to get out, and this was only a 2 hour gap. I assured him that was fine and we had no problem waiting for a bit, we could always grab drinks at the bar. I arrived at 8:40, and the rest of the group arrived at around 8:45 (terrible procrastinators). We were waiting in the front lobby, and several of us had gone to get drinks at the bar. No one was upset or remotely concerned that we were waiting, as we had been warned that this could happen. The manager came up around that time and apologized profusely for the wait and told us that as soon as the other table got up, they would have waters and chips/salsa/queso on the table for us. It was around 9 when we got sat, and everything was set up ready to go. The service was great- speedy and friendly. Food and drinks were awesome as always! It was a small gesture to be so concerned for us waiting, but it really made a difference. Thanks to the server/manager that worked friday may 8th- y'all were awesome! read more

Everything is made from scratch as the name says, even their drinks, so I will surely be back to try those. I hate sweet and sour in my drinks, bleh! I went for lunch today and it had a pretty decent crowd at 12:30p. Two lunch entrees and an iced tea rang in at $27. Not bad! Meal starts with comp chips and two salsas (a red and a green) which were both very tasty. I had the grilled salmon with poblano rice and julianned squash on the side. The salmon was a nice size (I'm still full and it's almost 4pm) and seasoned well, albeit a tad overcooked (and they said it's cooked medium rare...not so). The sides were really good, well-seasoned and didn't taste the same. You know sometimes side items can somehow all taste the same...maybe it's just me. The dishes were presented beautifully as well. My accomplice had the steak fajita nachos. It's four huge chips topped with perfectly melted cheese and grilled onions and flank steak. She was having issues chewing the meat but said it was really yummy. I had the ceviche for dinner on my last visit and it was just OK. Kinda one note- lime. Won't order it again and I think it cost more than a lunch entree. A friend at work said the pork tacos are awesome, so I'll definitely be back to try those...and maybe a drink, or two :) read more

I did the Xmas burrito, it was huge, but very tasty. My colleague had the street tacos and she enjoyed them. They were 3 tacos to a portion which looked like a good size. Great, fresh TexMex in a higher end setting. They have nice bar space and a good deck area for outdoor seating. They have a menu of margaritas. The queso is yummo! The guacamole is made table side, a little pricey but you get a lot. They have platters, ala carte, tacos, fajitas, different kinds of beans ... tough choices. We enjoyed all we sampled. Late lunch today. Nice atmosphere, good waiter. But only so-so food. Two of us had 4 appetizers and it was way too much. Left a lot of food behind. That was a sgame. The tableside guacamole was pretty good, Nice and chunky and a variety of additions if that's what you want. So no harm there. The ceviche was dreadful. Olives in ceviche, wtf? I think not. Dry toothfish (Chilean sea bass) over soaked in not very good lime. No bite, nothing tender. So that's what really takes it down. The huitlacoche (OK, spelling challenge here) quesadillas were just OK. The roasted corn thingy was served in a cute pot, but it was pretty awful. OK chips. Two salsas in the bowl - pretty. Waiter attentive enough to refill tea, etc. But it seems as if its ambition outruns its execution. Shame really, because I really wanted to like it. Oh and that lunch for 2 was $57 before tip. Extremely relaxed, delicious, friendly and upscale Mexican! The margarita selection is the best I've ever seen. You can't beat a rita menu where all the ritas are skinny. None of that sweet & sour junk! The margaritas aren't cheap but they are GOOD! I had beef quesadillas that were wonderful. There was a great flow to the service. I was catching up with someone and I realize we probably sat for too long but never felt rushed. Samuel served us and he was beyond helpful. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it's impossible to get a table. My recommendation is to limit your party to 2 (great date night) and sit at the bar. If you're lucky enough to to get Brian as your bartender, tell him to make you something special & let him work - he's a mixologist extraordinaire! I am so in love with Mi Dia! It's great to go somewhere where everything is made in-house. First off -- their chips and salsa are amazing! The red part of the salsa is smoky and the green part is tart and sweet! I ordered the amazing sopas and a bowl of tortilla soup for my meal and my husband ordered the duck tacos. The pork belly in the sopas just melt in your mouth and the duck tacos were super moist. Please save some room for dessert! We were able to try the s'mores, the churros and the sopapillas. The Negro Modelo ice cream that comes with the churros -- everyone has to try! The sopapillas are delightfully more chewier than most other sopapillas you get at restaurants. This place gets packed so try to come early or you'll have to wait a bit and you'll probably have to park on the street or the nearby hotel. If it is crowded -- it is worth the wait! read more

Second trip to Mi Dia was pretty good. We visited on Mother's Day and got seated right away during the lunch rush- great! Our server might have been having a bad day or something, she was a little unfriendly and didn't visit the table very often. The chips were fresh, but a little on the greasy side. Like, every other chip was glistening with oil- sorta strange. The salsa is not super flavorful but packs some heat. There are good kid options that include a soda and sopapillas for dessert. My wife and I had the house margaritas on the rocks with salt and they were really tasty. The main dishes were also tasty. Plan on large portions, I wasn't able to finish almost half of my plate (the beans and rice make it over the top). The rice was a little dry but the refried beans were good. Walked out $60 lighter but bellies full and thankful we found a nice spot to eat for Mother's Day. read more

Brandon was so nice and help me put an order over the phone. Very friendly and helpful. I was able to find excellent vegan options here. Both rice options are vegan. And they have refried beans that are vegan. A few of their beans are not vegan, but once you let them know about dietary restrictions, they can really help you order. I really love all of their salsas. They have this dark red/black salsa that's really spicy, and I loved it. I really like their tortillas also, the corn tortillas are vegan. read more
