I was so excited to try brunch here, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. I ordered the lamb chop bowl with pasta, a Cajun dish, and an iced tea. First, the iced tea wasn't available--but no one informed me until I asked, long after everyone else at my table had their drinks. Then came the food. For $38, I expected a well-portioned and flavorful meal, but the lamb chops were ridiculously small. The pasta was just penne with Cajun sauce and toast--completely missing the peppers and spinach that were listed on the menu. And the service? Terrible. When it was time to leave, we waited over 30 minutes for our server, only to be told we had to pay at the front--and that they couldn't split our checks. Meanwhile, he accepted payment at the table for other guests. Overall, the restaurant is beautiful but it was an extremely disappointing experience. So happy we dropped in for a date night. Mi Casa Su Cafe is such a welcoming place. My spouse and I ordered the shrimp and grits 2 for 1 special on Tuesdays and it was delicious. We moved to MKE from down south a bit over 2 years ago, and finding anything comparable was a reach. Do yourself a favor, skip the trendy spot downtown that is apparently known for their shrimp and grits, and drop in to Mi Casa for some grits that are creamy and seasoned to perfection. Eating here felt like walking into your favorite relatives house. Shoutout to staff for making us feel like regulars. So happy y'all are nearby. Great experience - Ordered the catfish sandwich which was well seasoned, piping hot and included better than average fries. Also ordered the Jerk Chicken Burrito with the upgraded garlic parmesan fries. The burrito was huge, seasoned wonderfully and had savory jerk sauce. Everything was served hot and fresh. Very good eats. We peaked through the pass thru to see the lounge. Looks like a great spot to a spirit and music during the cocktail hour. A friend and I stopped in for lunch while we were in town for a wine-tasting event. The ambience was nice, and the DJ added a fun vibe to the atmosphere. Our server (a woman) was attentive and very pleasant--great service overall. Unfortunately, the food was a big letdown. I ordered the salmon croquettes with biscuits and gravy. The salmon was pasty, and the filling completely overpowered any real salmon flavor--it just wasn't good. I also expected a whole biscuit with gravy on top, but instead received broken-up biscuits with an unusual taste and shreds of cheese on top, which was confusing and unappetizing. Overall, while the setting and service were enjoyable, the food really missed the mark for me. I wouldn't return based on this experience. read more

Mi Casa Su Cafe on MLK Drive is an overlooked gem and one I would like to give a shout out to on #thankyouThursday Takeout is my jam w/Mi Casa's fresh and made to order menu items. The grilled salmon with rice and asparagus is still my favorite when it's on the menu, as are the salads, and the pastas are not to be missed. This is a stellar example of a Black-owned business serving the community with healthy eating at breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as providing a modest space for the community to meet. My wife and I are here yesterday afternoon after church. My wife ordered the chicken & waffles which she said was really good; I ordered the catfish and grits which was delicious. I initially was reluctant to eat breakfast here because they have turkey bacon, and I don't care for turkey bacon. They don't offer any pork, which I generally like for breakfast. That proved to be no issue considering the meal I ordered. Don't overlook this place, the food is really good. Friday night splendor. Mojitos were a great starter. Crawfish appetizer was delicately battered and crisp. Fish tacos were generous, fresh and delicious. I took one home and it even reheated well. My wife got a Thai beef and coconut rice dish, which was awesome. And finally, we splurged for dessert and loved the mango and pineapple crepe. I would come again BUT they need to season the chicken and rice soup, grits (grits were grainy), mac&cheese. Also the salmon croquettes were seasoned well but were salty. Lastly the French toast was cold and that was sent back. On a positive note the waitress was fabulous and very accommodating, the drinks were good, and the atmosphere was great.
