My family and I had dinner here on Father's Day, as their menu had a tasty selection that my dad and brother-in-law were interested in. They easily sat our group even on a busy evening, and that was a great plus! The space was very open and without much soft seating, so it gets pretty noisy in there. That does take away from the ambiance a bit, but the food is delicious and it's easy to drop in here without a reservation. If there's a chimichanga on a menu, I just have to order it. They had a veggie chimichanga deliciously smothered in cheese, and the server confirmed the their black beans and rice were vegetarian-friendly, so I was in for a feast! I took quite a bit of it home because I already knew I wanted the fried ice cream. Our table shared the delicious treat, with six of us able to enjoy a sweet ending to a yummy meal, and the two kiddos in our group finished it off! Highly recommend the fried ice cream if you go!

Another dinner here and no complaints. The food here is good, I've had better but I've had a lot worse. Three beef enchiladas, rice, beans and a little salad and I was happy with my full tummy. Service was very good as Maria took good care of us. Wife had her fav, the tamale dinner and she was happy also. We will continue to come here, the food warrants repeat visits. It's a nice place too. Try it.

Very nice location and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and bar area. The service is good (slower when it's very crowded) and the menu choices are plenty. The food is down well and served hot and fresh.

We keep coming back. The place smelled amazing. The food was tasty and hot. Salsa seemed to have a new flavor and contained substance. Nothing to complain about only thanks for a great meal.

I would honestly give zero stars if I could. I went here for years & it quickly declined. The guac is plain but the last 2 times has tasted rancid like a bad avocado. I got 3 meals, 1-tacos, 2-enchiladas, & 3-a quesadilla... it came out to $100!! I told the server the guac was bad and she said I'll ask the kitchen what they think. They didn't replace it with new nor did they take it off the receipt. It was also THE SMALLEST serving of guac like smaller than the ketchup sauce that came with my son's fries. All the meals were flavorless and disappointing. After trying to come back in hopes that it was a fluke occurrence, I will not be returning. Overpriced and gross!

    Tres Amigos Enchiladas.

Not bad. Have spicy salsa upon request. Nice, efficient service, tasty. Slightly high priced but what isn't these days? I'll be back.

It was open for business, but there was only one other group of two in there with us-and only one server-who was also the bartender. It was a little odd. I'm sure this place is popping at night. Our server (who was chatty at the end-businesslike before) told us there's karaoke on Friday nights and a DJ on Saturdays. I'll definitely bring the friends back for that. The drink menu is large-it would be a fun night spot. I'm just not sure I'd come back for a weekday lunch. That's not the food's fault, though. I had chicken enchiladas verde (very nice) with some of the best Mexican rice I've ever had. The margarita was also good. You can tell this restaurant has been around awhile-there are echoes of genres past, with different decor still lingering (the lighting, for example). But I love the murals outside, the bar surrounds, the signage by the stage area and the other Mexican touches. I also really like the vintage windows-it's a nice nod to the past. And it's spotless in here-so clean-with lots of tables. I also thought the prices were fair. I hope they thrive!

I've been here before with friends a few times, years ago but somehow never wrote a review and hadn't been back. It was time to fix both of those problems. . I stopped in for lunch on a Monday and had my pick of spots in the large, festive- rustic dining room. There are tables and booths aplenty-along with tall stools at the large bar. They bring you a generous basket of chips and salsa right away. The first round is free-they charge after that. The chips are usually fresh and crisp. To me, the salsa needs more heat or spices-but don't go by me-I have tomato issues. My server arrived soon and was so sweet when handling my questions. She helped me make good ordering decisions and also checked on me often, but didn't hover. I went with one of the lunch specials, which was a good deal. I had the Speedy Gonzalez: a beef taco, beef enchilada verde and rice (you could have also chosen beans). It's tasty and filling-and goes down great with those aforementioned skinny margs. I ordered the cheese dip and a side of flour tortillas to dip in it. I just can't resist a bowl of cheese. All this merriment on a Monday afternoon? Si!!! The menu is big-and has echos of the Vallarta's restaurants here in the Bay Area. I'm wondering if it's a sister restaurant. It's in a strip mall, with some parking in front and maybe more in back. There's outdoor seating-and I know they used to have mariachis on certain nights-and people would dance. I should find out if that's still the case. I love mariachis even more than a bowl of cheese. Gran Agave has been here a long time. I think it has a strong local following-and I need to become a regular.

We had a group of nine for a family dinner and waited about an hour for a table, which was understandable for a larger party. Once seated, however, the service was unfortunately very slow. It took about 15-20 minutes just to receive our drinks (seven waters and two margaritas), and our food took roughly an hour to arrive at the table. The restaurant didn't appear to be overly busy, so the long wait times were a bit confusing. Because gratuity was automatically included, it felt like our server may not have been as attentive as expected. The prices were also on the higher side, which made the slow service even more disappointing. That said, I do want to mention that the food itself was very good, which was definitely the highlight of the experience. Overall, while we enjoyed the meal, the customer service left a lot to be desired. I'd consider returning in the future, but only if the service improves.

Los Chapos Tacos - Brandon, FL…read more I've been on a serious hunt for truly authentic Mexican food in the Brandon/Tampa area for years, and this little hole-in-the-wall next to the HCA hospital absolutely nailed it. I ordered the Al Pastor burrito -- twice in one week -- specifically to test consistency. Both visits were outstanding. The flavors were vibrant and clean: fresh pineapple, bright cilantro, perfectly seasoned meat, and you could even pick up subtle notes of cinnamon. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and genuinely authentic, not over-processed or masked with heavy sauces. What really stood out was the care. The staff checked on me while I was eating, genuinely wanting to make sure everything was right. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being in someone's kitchen -- that comforting "grandma making sure you're fed right" kind of energy. Warm, welcoming, and personal. I've traveled extensively in Mexico and lived in Florida for years trying to find a place that hits the mark for real Mexican flavor -- and this place absolutely delivers. Hands down, this is the best Mexican food I've found in this area in a long time. If you're anywhere near Brandon and love authentic Mexican food, do yourself a favor and stop here. You won't regret it.

Because it was Easter and my wife wanted Mexican food, I figured after a year since my last visit to this restaurant they may have gotten better. I was actually worse. The FREE chips and salsa were terrible. Chips were hard and old tasting and the salsa was watery and tasteless. I think I found one onion piece in the tomato soup they call salsa. Let's start with the service. Mr. No personality, what do you want, why are you asking me questions about the menu truly just seemed annoyed that my wife had a question before we ordered. I had the combo fajita with steak and chicken. My with had the Carne Asada tacos. The tacos had no flavor at all. Just tasted liked chopped up pork with a lot of onions and cilantro on top had no spices no seasoning. As for my fajitas, they to were lacking flavor and the portion for what they charge was shameful I had a big plate of onions with a couple of minced up pieces of chicken and steak scattered throughout it. Both our dishes were served with refried beans and rice and even that tasted like they forgot to season it or just chose not to season it. Truly never returning to this place. It sucks!!!!!!!
