You can tell this place is serving really good tacos just judging by the photos. We decided to give…read moreit a shot. It exceeded our expectations and ended up being my favorite tacos of all time. You have to order the quesabirria, it's tender beef tacos melted with cheese inside a pan-fried corn tortilla that you dip in broth. It's simply the best. Not the best start: there was no hostess at the front, so 3 parties stood there for 3-5 minutes even though there were multiple tables open. Once we were seated it was all good. We sat outside, ambiance was lovely with colorful flags and picnic tables and lively Mexican music in the background. Our server was flying around as the joint was understaffed, but it didn't even matter in the end because she handled it with grace and the food was phenomenal. Every server was so gracious. The kind staff and wonderful food and atmosphere made up for the minor delays in service. Overall it was a really lovely evening!

I did have a bunch of their sauces and salsas. None really stood out except their green sauce, which was used sporadically. Birria Tacos - These were very good. The consommé was flavorful, while the beef was tender. The tortilla was crisp too even with the consommé added. Elote Corn - This was rather plain. There was only a crema and cotija cheese present. It seemed like chili powder was supposed to be added, but I did not taste or see any. The corn could have been cooked a little better too. Guacamole - This was tasty. It appeared fresh and paired well with the chips given. I really liked the texture of it too. Chicken Flautas - These were deep fried tortillas with chicken, sour cream, lettuce, and cotija cheese I believe. These were solid. The chicken could have been seasoned a little more, but the tortillas were crisp and held up. Choriqueso Con Tortillas Tostadas - This was melted jack and Oaxacan cheese topped with Mexican chorizo over toasted nixtamal homemade corn tortillas. The cheese and chorizo was excellent, with lots of flavor. It did not look the best but tasted good. The corn tortilla was either old and stale or just fried way too long as it was very tough to chew. It could have made for a great bite. Will I go back? Debatable.

The dining room was quiet on a Saturday night, but it seemed like the majority of orders were for takeout. Regardless, the staff was super friendly and attentive. The chips were warm and came with two types of salsas, a green and a red. Both salsas were super fresh and very tasty, with the red salsa having just the right amount of spice. We ordered the Chicken Fajitas and Chicken Burrito Texano. The fajitas were delicious and freshly sizzling out of the kitchen and came with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The portion was huge, and I ended up taking the rest home which will probably be enough for two more meals. The Burrito Texano seems to be super popular and I understand why - the cream sauce was a house specialty and super tasty. Both dishes were reasonably priced and delicious. The portions were huge and offered great value for the price. I highly recommend this place!

I love tacos, especially when they are authentic. Red Bank has no shortage of Mexican restaurants…read moreso I went on a mission to find lengua (beef tongue), which can be hard to come by. Thankfully North of the Border came through. I like to try a variety of tacos but unfortunately NOTB, like many others, does not let you mix and match. Therefore, I chose an order of 3 lengua and 3 chorizo tacos. I also ordered a bottle of coke to go. I had to do a double take of the receipt as my total was pushing $30. I asked the woman at the counter to break down the prices and confirmed that the lengua tacos were $13 and chorizo were $9. This threw me off as an older picture of the menu shows all tacos priced at $7. I really enjoyed these tacos. They were super authentic and full of flavor. I may order again but will be shopping around first to find tacos that are more reasonably priced.

Communication can sometime be a little difficult, but the food more than makes up for it. Update 1: 5 stars again, got delivery via the restaurant a few days back. The arabes had great flavor, and lasted for days. Chorizo tacos were obviously the favorite, as expected. Also, was blown away by how filling and delicious the Cemita was. Support local businesses, if you can, please! I was starving after my massage and ordered tacos to go - two tacos with chorizo, potatoes, onions and one with chicken, smoked chipotle. Literally sped home to eat them (I had one in the car right away. Don't regret it) Amazing, amazing tacos. The chorizo tacos said onions (cebolla) but they were long stemmed bulbs - not sure if they're called something else but I loved them (please let me know if anybody knows what they're called. Check photIt came with lime, radish and green salsa (not sure). Red Bank has awesome options if you don't care about these places being small, cramped and not upscale. Top quality authentic Mexican food. I'm going to go back soon to try more of their menu.

I really enjoyed the food!…read more Did not enjoy trying to find parking, even valet was a ways off instead of being in the front of the restaurant. There was also a bit of a sewage smell that lingered the whole evening, not sure where that was coming from. But, the most important to me is the food lol. It was a lively atmosphere inside. I'm glad that they allowed us to be seated even though our full party wasn't present. Service was friendly and fast. Really enjoyed the crab empanadas.... the "guacamole" they puree it which gave it a bit of a watery texture that wasn't the best. But, the absolute star of the show was my scallop entree! WOW. Every bite was perfectly balanced and delicious! Highly recommend.. I got a side order of rice and beans because I needed an extra bed for all of that deliciousness. Would take this to go! My cosmo was tasty, small, but tasty. Pleasant experience overall.
