    empanada trio
    Paula W.

It was great, we arrived about 4pm and immediately warmly greeted. We started with drinks I ordered the Strawberry kiss which was perfect because I like a little fizz in my drink. Appetizers we went with the empanada trio(spinach and cheese, al pastor and birria) all 3 empanadas were good but the spinach was the best to me it was simple and delicious. For a entree I went with the 3 ribeye tacos rice and beans, the tacos are small but filling and the meat was very tender, my husband had the big a$$ burger which he enjoyed. The server Ramon was very attentive and answered all of our questions. I'm so happy to have this spot in my neighborhood we will be back. I loved this spot when it was Unidad and I continue to love it as Mi Amor!

You remember that scene in Ratatouille where the villainous food critic is magically transported back to his childhood when he tastes the hero's dish? Mi Amor gave me that kind of culinary experience. This place was better than some Michelin star restaurants I've eaten at. We came on the día de los muertos where - unbeknownst to us - they had a special limited four course menu. It was great. My favorite drink is a smoked Old Fashion, and I've only had a really good one downtown at Roanoake, which is pretty far away. I actually enjoyed Mi Amor's version better. I was transported back to my grandpas lakeside bonfire. The rest of the meal was equally good. Churrasco steak and lamb were bursting with authentic flavors. There was just enough fusion elements to make it more interesting than just a high end taco. The cheese spinach empanadas were also great. The dessert I didn't expect to be surprised by; churros , sure why not. Butt the white chocolate studded with pomegranate was mind-blowingly good. I was a big fan of Unidad - so I had high expectations, they didn't let me down. If they go on Door Dash I'll basically pay their rent.

Fried Calamari - rings were super small, not sure why

I got together with my Diva girlfriend on 10/11/25 and we decided to go here since she likes Mexican food and the fact that she'd been here before for drinks but had never had their food. We walk in and the place is super cute in the setup. We had reservations for when the place opened so staff was setting up, having their staff meeting, etc. All the staff there were kind to us and seemed to be attentive which was great. We ordered our drinks. I had the Besito De Fresa 'strawberry kiss' and my buddy had the The 'BOSS' Margarita. We enjoyed our drinks, mine was so fresh with fresh juices at the bottom so couldn't wait to get to the bottom of the glass to enjoy them. For appetizers, we got the guacamole and the calamari. The guac to me was only okay, nothing earth shattering. The homemade chips to the guac though were delicious. The calamari was good but the rings were so small. I've never seen calamari so tiny. It came with a green sauce that was tasty. For our meals, I got the Camarones A La Diabla which was 6 Jumbo shrimp in a diablo sauce with a bed of buttered rice. The shrimp I really couldn't eat, it was way too hot/spicy. My buddy agreed as she tasted one. She got the EvergreenPark's #1 Quesabirria Tacos which are the beef oxtail tacos. She enjoyed them but I felt they were a bit bland and needed more flavor. Also got the Elotes corn which was only okay to me but most Elotes I don't like so don't take too much emphasis on that opinion. Jose was our server and was nice and attentive. We were there for awhile and nobody bothered us. We were fully prepared to pay the bill after eating our meal while we continued to hang out but he never came to us with the bill until we asked for it. Although his service was good for the most part he did something that is a pet peeve of mine. I had a little of my drink left and was savoring that to taste the last of the fresh juices at the bottom. He came and took my glass to which I told him that I wasn't finished. He proceeded to tell me "Are you sure?" questioning me due to the fact that I guess in his opinion, it wasn't enough to keep. You don't question a customer like that. I told him I was sure so he could give me back my glass. Please ask a customer before removing food/drink off the table. I would definitely come back to get that Besito De Fresa 'strawberry kiss' because it was so good. Not sure if I would come back for the food but keep in mind, they are fairly new so they need time to iron out the kinks still. It's well visited as it got very busy while we were there which is a good thing.

We had a Friday at 7pm reservation. Upon arriving, the hostess appeared not to see our reservation and then left us at the hostess station for a few minutes, finally returning to say our table was ready and that she had located our reservation. It was weird, and, at this point, two more parties were standing behind us asking if anyone was there to seat us. I'm sure this wasn't a good first impression for them either. We sat on the patio which was way cute and had nice fall decor. It had nice lighting, too. Then came delays with a server coming to take orders and once one came, two more arrived asking if we had been helped. That became the theme of the night, our server would attend to us and then another one would follow behind asking questions and making suggestions. It seemed well-intentioned, but felt overbearing. Plus, when service actually mattered - getting our orders - we waited forever. We didn't get our dishes until after 8pm and we arrived at 7pm. For the food, the stars were the enchiladas and the Mexican corn. The quesabirria tacos had great flavor but the oxtail meat was chewy and not tender. The consumme was flavorful, though. My friend also enjoyed her salmon. The vegetable skewers were undercooked, had no seasoning and so were very bland and al dente. We didn't enjoy this dish. For drinks, we had non-alcoholic mojitos, and I really enjoyed mine which was strawberry-flavored. At the end of the dinner, even getting the check took awhile. Then, no one came to take the payment for maybe 20 minutes. The wait times need some work here but hopefully they work out the kinks because I'd like to go back and try some other dishes. It's a nice place to have locally.

I've been twice in the last few months. Each time, the food and service were amazing. What particularly struck me is how everyone says "thank you for coming". From top down, they appreciate your business. The food is 4 out of 5 stars. The ribeye and birria tacos are amazing. The rice and beans are very flavorful. There are a few items that benefit from a pinch of finishing salt to bring out the flavors, e.g. the guac, the calamari. But they give you a shaker to salt to your preference. I actually appreciate them under-salting food and giving us salt, instead of making everything salty. So ignore any review saying food is bland. People should use the salt that's given to them. My husband had the ribeye and he loved the flavor and really enjoyed it. He did note the texture was somewhat off. It wasn't a preparation issue. It was a meat quality issue, as compared to the steaks we purchase and eat at other restaurants. Perhaps they'll be able to consider other suppliers as they continue to grow. The vegetable skewers are mostly onion and bell pepper. I don't love that. But they are very tasty. They should add more zucchini and squash. The ambiance is good. What's interesting is they have two big TVs behind the bar and they just show winter-themed pictures. Maybe they'll could show photos of Mexico or other visuals that honor the culture. The music is fine and the right volume. It neither contributes nor detracts and you can still enjoy your conversation. I hope they're successful. I will continue to come back regularly.

I'm a little bit nervous about writing this review. On one hand we loved how intimate this place is, but we want it to succeed.....so here we go! My husband and I were able to sit at the bar (our favorite place to dine when it's just us) on a Thursday afternoon. We loved Unidad and learned about this place opening up from a table next to us at another local favorite hot spot close to our hearts. We arrived during happy hour. I opted for a margarita (Delicious!!!) and my husband opted for a crisp Carte Blanc. For appetizers we had the trio empanadas......I could have had 3 orders of them for a meal alone; they were that good! They were served with a spicy creamy habanero sauce and a creamy green salsa verde sauce. Side note; eat the watermelon radish garnish, they are fantastic!!!!! For our entrees I had the Poblano Pasta with steak; my husband had el pastor tacos. Holy moly!!! Surpassed our expectations. For dessert we had the trio.Tiramisu, crem brûlée, and tres leches . Mouthwatering!!!!! Atmosphere was clean, and a cross between industrial and modern. Service was absolutely amazing!!! Family owned and ran. What dreams are made of. Everything that is right in the world.

Loved this location when it was called Unidad, so naturally we had to come back to check it under the new name and owner. Very attentive and friendly staff! Nice cocktails! Same cozy and date night atmosphere! We will be coming back for sure to try the rest of the menu soon!

Mi amor is a revamped Mexican Latino restaurant in the Evergreen Park area. There is parking available on the street. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and their side patio. It is a quaint restaurant with upscale decor. There is a nice bar for individual and small parties. We were greeted right away upon arrival and the service was great the manager, hostess and waiter constantly checked in on us ( maybe a little too much). They were remarkable with removing plates and used dishes once finished with your meal. We ordered two appetizers, the guacamole and the fried calamari the guacamole was nicely plated and flavor-able however, I thought rather a very small portion for the cost. However. The fried calamari was amazing. It was seasoned just right and had a nice little kick to it. I ordered the oxtail barría tacos that came with a side of rice and beans. The tacos were good, but not great. My friend ordered the shrimp dish and it was plated great and the shrimp were very tasteful with lots of flavor. The drinks we ordered were very refreshing with lots of flavor as well. This place gets rather busy for dinner so you may want to make r reservations. I believe they prefer you to make reservations. They also offer happy hour Monday through Thursday for specials on drinks and appetizers. If you're in the area, I would definitely say try them out. I will definitely be back for the shrimp dish and their calamari.

I'll give it another go, put tonight was tough. I had high expectations because Mi Amor's predecessor was a favorite. Service was friendly but very, very slow. They told us they were short staffed and it showed. The frequent check ins from our waiter, though well intended, underscored the length of our wait. The setting is great, we sat on the patio and were very comfortable. The space has a buzzy vibe, lots of smiles, laughs, people were having a great time. Our table was wobbly, but the waiter addressed it right away. We started with the Boss Margarita and the Sangria, I'll pass on both next time. For our first round, we had the Paloma and Mi Amor Margarita. The Paloma was great! The margarita was ok. Our dinner included- the salsa trio, Mexican street corn, calamari, enchiladas with skirt steak and Evergreen Park's #1 Quesabirria Taco. The salsa trio, and Mexican street corn were ok. The calamari and skirt steak were overcooked. The enchiladas were enchiladas and the taco...you'll need to try for yourself.

Stopped in for dinner Saturday with family. Quickly greeted and sat down in a hurry. Nice and chill vibes inside. Ordered myself a margarita and then queso fundido and guacamole for the table. Both came out super quick. Fundido had that cheesy goodness to pair with the fresh tortillas. Guac was nice and light with a hint of lime not too overpowering. The birria I ordered was . Crispy cheesy tortillas filled with fall apart oxtail. A must have! Consume was a great compliment too.

I usually don't give five stars but this small owned business deserves it. Not only was the atmosphere and the decor beautiful and nice. The place was also very clean and the bathroom was spectacular. The food is very costly and the portions don't live up to the price, the food still packs spectacular flavor and beautiful presentation on the plate. I had the tacos dorados with a side of chicken. The dish was plated beautifully and seasoned to perfection. I usually don't finish my whole plate at a restaurant but this time I did. We also went there for a birthday celebration and the service was amazing. They were even kind enough to play my family members favorite song and sing her happy birthday. Plus a free dessert on the side. It was a bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and a creme vanilla sauce. The bread pudding was moist and had amazing texture and even though it needed more sugar the ice cream and the sauce made up for it. And the drinks were also amazing and as a good presentation they lit the herbs on fire. Would I go there again? Yes especially for their delicious empanadas.

Hands down the food was amazing, Ramon our server was great so nice and attended to our needs! The place was super cute, and decorated lovely for Christmas!

We kept getting our conversation interrupted by the bar tender whose name was Val. We were talking about old navy and she interrupted our convo and started being fatphobic about the sizes they offered "why do they have so many sizes, it's wild, who even wears that size" and when my by chimed in about how inclusive they are and how some people need it and, she started putting her foot in her mouth and tripping over her words, strike one. My boy friend then stated to talk to another patron in he bar and she kept interrupting their conversation and making it about her and her bf, but the thing is no one was talking to her once again, the patron ended up leaving after the 3rd interruption, strike 2. This final strike caused us to leave the bar and we won't ever be coming back. We were once again having a conversation, without her and she come up to us and loudly called us "Ladies" in front of everyone, this is after I had already introduced him as my boyfriend. He corrected her and I also corrected her and she just stood there with a stupid blank expression over her face like she didn't hear what we said. She then tried to give a half ass apology about her being drunk/tipsy and she didn't mean any harm by it, but the damage was done. She was obviously off of some drug or something because she couldn't sit still and she kept twitching. She never apologized and we left right after. After being a patron of this bar for over 2 years, I expected more respect or just common decency. It is soooooo unsafe and dangerous to be so unaware, especially with the political landscape of the city being what it is. She is able to go on with her life and it's not a good look for the bar and I will not be returning and telling my friends to also not return to the bar. Her behavior was beyond unacceptable and not be returning.
