I came here on a whim to buy laudary soap, and ended up staying for dinner while my laundry washed in the laundry mat a few blocks away. This place is as local and authentic as it gets. While the cashier speaks English, most of the patrons do not. That's a great thing in my book if you're looking for good Mexican food that the locals enjoy. I got three tacos ($1 ea on Tuesdays!) to try several different meats. All were on small white corn tortillas. The chorizo was delicious! Lean, spicy, and seared crispy. The pollo (chicken) was tasty, but a little flat after the chorizo. The barbacoa (shredded beef) was very tasty, but very fatty. I also tried a papusa. It was good, but not as authentic as the papusa I had in El Salvador last week. Swallow your inner Gringo and come give this place a try. (I am a total gringo btw) They will even tolerate you trying to order in broken high school Spanish! read more

This is a great local neighborhood Mexican market. I come here to get the cooked pork, jalapeño salsa and rice from the deli. Simply the best pork and salsa. Great selection of fresh items at the best prices. The spices and sauces are always available. Besides the great food is the service. I have asked numerous times how to make a particular dish and they are willing to help me out. I try to make authentic food and not of Mexican decent but they are always so nice. They know me no...they come up to me when I look lost. Lol. Not sure if the are related to Andale on Nicollet but the selection and service her is so much better. BYW...we had a graduation party catered with some of their items!!! They are the best!! read more

Me like good, decently priced Mexican food. This place is just right. Great menu selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Respectable vegetarian options, too. I had the 'huevos rancheros' and it was very nice. Ambience is okay, and except for plastic forks and/or the fact that they don't have any fish, I'd give it five stars. read more

Decided to try out this place since Andale was on Triple D and packed. Pretty much the same formula.....little market and restaurant connected together. I had the carne asada taco platter.....3 tacos with rice and beans. You order at the window then they call out your number when it's ready. The tacos were pretty flavorful....came with lime wedges, cilantro and onions. You could taste the seasonings on the meat. The rice was somewhat standard but the beans were some of the best I've had. It's part good. On taco Tuesday, tacos are only $1.00 each. The wait time varies. I waited 15 min for my tacos on my last visit. Meats are good, but I was left with an, "Oleo" grease taste in my mouth after I left. Really not good. Cheap food and a good value, but there are much better tacos around. I love this little mercado! Anytime I'm making a Mexican recipe, my first stop and usually my only stop, is here. Their prices are fair - think of those cellophane bags of dried Anaheim peppers or chipotle's that cost upwards of $6 at Lunds, Kowalskis, Cubs, here they are about $3. Their deli is amazing- all kinds of cheeses, pico de gallo is the best; always fresh though the level of "hot" is a bit above medium. They also have prepared carnitas, barbacoa, and if you are interested, goat (they will let you sample first!). You can also get these amazing packaged Mexican potato chips! This store also offers daily necessities and fresh produce. Oh - hot tamales and coffee are at the register. The service can be a little slow, but seriously, it beats running around town for recipe components and paying a lot more! read more

Great tacos!!! We just returned from Cancun, Mexico and happened to pass by the restaurant on the way back from a game. Went in and were pleasantly surprised to find great food. Even Guy Fieri from the Food Network recommends it. It has a small private parking lot, and we were lucky to find a parking space. The tacos were the best authentic tacos we had in the Twin Cities. The taste of our Mexican trip tacos had not quite worn off, so it was wonderful to taste something close to it. We had tacos and veggie burrito. The veggie burrito is huge in size, probably enough for two people to share. Their sauces are really hot, and we loved that. read more

I visited Mi Ama Grocery though specifically, I visited their attached Eat-In or Take-Out Taqueria. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, it's a restaurant or stand specializing in Mexican dishes, as tacos and burritos. On to the review! It was quaint, and I ordered 4 tacos which became 5. They have a variety of dishes available with pictures and descriptions which makes oredring pretty easy (the hard part was deciding what to order first). ;) I ended up staying true to form on this one, and ordering two beef barbacoa tacos, and two Tinga de Pollo pulled chicken tacos. I'm typically more of a beef guy, but I MUST URGE YOU . . . Order the Tinga de Pollo pulled Chicken Tacos! At $1.99/each, they're a tasty treat that leaves a nice tingle in your tastebuds! Not overly hot by any means. Just a great flavor with a smokey tingle of chipotle sauce. These tacos are served authentic style in soft shell corn tacos. The pulled chicken is in a delicious smokey chipotle sauce (chipotle as in chipotle pepper NOT Chipotle the restaurant). This is the real stuff. ;) The barbacoa tacos were ok, not great. I should have just ordered 5 Tinga de Pollo's because those were VERY tasty! A friend said I should really go back and check out the grocery due to the variety of interesting food stuffs available there. This place has the best guacamole and pick de gallo in Minnesota! Their pre-made barbacoa is also excellent.

Best tamales!!!!! Tried midtown and other plsces. Did not think to try tamales here. Wow awsome. My wife even likes and she normally will not touch a tamale. It's nice to have so close to my house but if you live far the tamales are worth a trip. I am a Mexican food fan but it's got to be quality and this family knows quality. To Claudia The woman was arguing with me about giving back the money. I said I wanted all of the money back, because my kids had eaten most of the pan, and if they got sick, from another piece that had mold that was undetected by one of my little ones, then YES the business would be in trouble. When you own a business, you accept the responsibility of all the goods and services that are provided at your establishment. I thought it was unprofessional for the woman to #1 argue with a client who spends a lot of money at their business, who had evidence of unsafe product, and its purchase and #2 to place the blame on one of her staff. I was once a restaurant manager, and anytime that a client had a complaint or one of our products was ever found to be unsafe (clearly mold on a piece of 'fresh' bread is unsafe for consumption) I would apologize, give the client their money back and would also include a coupon our discount for their next visit. I would never blame an employee of mine outright, but rather, assure the customer that the particular employee during the shift would be addressed about the situation, and apologize again to the client for their inconvenience. I feel like I was treated poorly by the woman, while was very calm and respectful, and have every right to voice my opinion. Also, I can usually find the same products for 10-20 cents cheaper at other places of business. Might not seem like much, but when you have several mouths to feed, 10-20 cent difference per item adds up. read more

We ate there last night for the first time because we were looking for authentic Mexican food. My husband and I both had the Huarachazo and it was absolutely delicious! The oblong corn tortilla tasted freshly hand made and the toppings were great. We will definitely go there again. We ate in so I only wish they would use real silverware and real dishes instead of plastic and Styrofoam. Also, someone needs to pay a little more attention to cleaning the tables. read more

This place is the real deal. The Huaraches and Huarachazo are insanely large. We always share portions. Here is how it works. You order at the counter - pick the type of presentation: Burrito, Taco, Huaraches and Huarachazo (which are open face like Tosadas), Gorditas, Burritos or Sopes. And then choose your meat: I highly recommend the Barbacoa and Al Pastor. They also have different types of prepared chicken, steak, carnitas (pork) or chorizo. The staff is super friendly and will assist you with any questions. The staff will prepare your delicious meal while you wait. You can dine in or take out. There are plenty of tables and you will not want to wait to drive home and eat. Everything is fresh and super yummy. Tip: If you want Tamales, you have to walk into the store to buy them from the cashier. I'm not sure why they aren't available in the restaurant. Go visit and support local business.
