We used to shop at Lund's since 1980. It WAS a great grocery store / meat market. Fast forward to today - $9.00 for a pound to strawberries. Ridiculous prices for other items. But the worst - I wanted to have the 'butcher' to cut a rack of ribs in half ( I wanted to make Chinese ribs. ) He told me they don't have any more saws! Then the meat in the case was vacuum packed - looks very unappealing. Some of the people at the deli don't know the difference between pounds and ounces / nor the thickness of the slicer. I wanted 'about' 6 oz of cheese - so I could grate it. She didn't understand - I said "that's fine" cut it. She tried cutting it on the slicer. I won't be back, except an occasional item. read more

Time flies but I've been shopping at this Lund's for years. With the recent remodel and chopping off the back of the parking lot where they used to sell Christmas trees to put up another bad-idea condo tower, the experience has gotten a bit lame. They've adopted the rows of magic light refrigerator cases like the one on France. The butcher counter - which is and always has been top notch - is still the same. But the selection has been tightened up a bit. And you still pay a premium to shop here. Fruits and vegetables are still noticeably superior to the mish mosh at Cub. The deli counter, which was decent for a while, is sadly miserable in selection, and almost always these days staffed by people who know almost nothing about deli beyond American cheese. That is the overall vibe here now though. It's catering to the grab and go crowd so if you want something exotic like a particular cut of beef or really other-worldly like lamb, they aren't for you. Like asking the butcher what good? That's for boomers, and this place ain't for boomers anymore. If you want deli meat available easily in most larger metropolitan areas, you can get them prepackaged, not cut fresh. And pay $20 a lb for something like mortadella. But truthfully you can walk 20 yards next door to Aldi and get the same imported prepackaged stuff for significantly less money. Same thing these days for cheeses. The bakery is ok, again as long as you're not getting too far into anything beyond basic cake. Hint: avoid cannoli here at all costs. So if you eat lots of shelf stable food and like narrow selection or you like to buy chicken breasts that are pre-seasoned and ready to pop in the oven because you're too busy to do that, and you're not ever going to eat things like fish, Lunds is right up your alley. The staff are nice. It's now hard to park in the lot. And they're gearing their store to younger people who don't remember what a supermarket used to be like. I'll still pop in but honestly the only reason I would is because they still have a clean restroom and the bargain-bin stuff in the back. I miss how it used to be. read more

I attended an event here that was a collaboration between Lunds & Byerlys and the Caribou Coffee that is attached to the store. It was a meet and greet with Richfield Police and Fire Department members. This store went over the top with the donut selection that were available for the event. I'm glad to see that this store could help bring the community together for this. I've shopped here before and that same level of service and care has been shown to me during those shopping trips too. I'll definitely come back here again! read more

For the fourth time I tried to buy something in their ad - they are always out of advertised items. If you go in on the first day, it's not in yet. By mid week it's sold out. Typical bait and switch. A complaint to the management is met with "I just work here". False advertising and attitudes galore. Even though it's a stones throw away I won't be back. read more

My go to spot for a quick last second pick up. I like the store and they usually have good produce and the meat section is good. I did not have the best experience tonight with their salad bar. Wilted lettuce. Vegetables that looked like they had been out for way too long. The olive bar had the spoons just stuck in the containers. Seemed under supervised. I was disappointed. I reduced my number of stars from four to one and quit shopping here after they radically reduced their fresh produce department. Why given the emphasis on healthy eating would they do this? This has become my go to grocery store since the Lunds Byerlys on France Avenue in Edina was, in my opinion, ruined by the remodeling of about a year ago. Aisles are wide and the lighting is good at the Penn Avenue location- not so at the new France Avenue store. The layout is linear and more or less logical. At least I can find things without too much effort. Produce is ok. Some times better than others. I am disappointed in the butcher shop. Not much variety. Today there were only about five fresh meat items in the butchers case. Not many non standard cuts. For example I can't find chicken gizzards which they used to stock. No longer carry Neuske's ham. I always buy seafood at Coastal Seafood because it is so much fresher. There is a Caribou Coffee but none of the mediocre take outs that have taken over the France Avenue store. The cheese selection is meager. Deli is ok. The bread in the bakery is good but the desserts and pastries are way too sweet. Staff is helpful and lines at the cashiers are short. Carry out staff are always courteous. I would like a little more variety but all in all ok. read more

What can I say when this Lunds Byerlys is nothing like the one in Burnsville. Need cash at US Bank? Not here. Only Wells Fargo ATM. Need to mail something that needs to be weighed or metered? Go somewhere else. This store is useless like tits on a boar ( my friends quote). This store is close to my job but I don't really have a need to frequent because it does not offer the same as a former Byerlys store. Here's a thought just have all your newly merged Lunds Byerlys stores offer the same! So annoying that I now need to go and make another stop. read more

Our standard grocery. I really like shopping here for many reasons: -big, wide aisles -great selection of organic veggies -helpful and knowledgeable butcher and seafood counter -best fish outside of Coastal Seafoods I've had in the area -plentiful samples for the kids -carry groceries out for you -pharmacy in house, along with good selection of household items such as softener salt, cleaners, so you only make one trip for everything -huge parking lot that always has tons of room -friendly people generally shop here, and employees also are very pleasant and responsive -ATM in house for when you run out of cash (just like the casinos and strip clubs!) -in-house Caribou so you can get hopped up on coffee before loading the cart with 20 pound hams Main drawback? Groceries are really expensive. Cub will save you a ton of money, but this Lunds is a totally peaceful and Zen like experience. Until the credit card bill comes. read more

If this doesn't apply to you, you don't need to worry about the rest, because you'd never use this branch. This is the only Byerly's/Lunds branch I will use due to the "interesting" factors. Interesting: Aggressively cruisy late at night, albeit cruisin' old married GOP Edina types style. If that's your thing, you'll meet Mr. Right Now. As an XX havin' person, this is nonthreatening and engaging, unlike anything else going on in the store. Also, cashiers will laugh with you at 13.99 a pound ground bison and then sigh and say this has to account for rampant bleed in the store lately. Working class solidarity - you're not buying it, they don't blame you. Felt very subversive. Yay. Negative: Almost everything. Go to Kowalskis unless you like being robbed. Similar pricing, but the premium experience makes the medicine a LOT easier to take. read more

Living where I do, I have my pick of the litter when it comes to grocery stores. Between this Lunds, the Kowalski's at 54th and Lyndale, and two Cub locations, I can go where I please. I usually do a lot of my Sunday (big trip) shopping at this store. The selection is more plentiful than Kowalski's and the produce is better than either Cub location. The meat selection at this location is solid and they always seem to have a deal on ground beef and/or chicken. As those are two staples in our house, I look forward to their deals. The boxed/non-perishable food is similar to all other grocery stores, but I do think the Lunds/Byerlys brand stuff is much higher quality than pretty much any other store brand. Finally, the parking lot is huge and is always less than half full, such a pleasant difference from Kowalski's, which is always a nightmare. I do wish they had a better prepared/hot foods section, but I typically do not go here for small trips. read more

Lunds is thought of as a more expensive grocery store, and given that one is paying for short check out lines and baggers who are happy to take your groceries out to your car, it can be. The reason I shop here rather than their competitors is mostly the deals, though. They always have several two for one deals on basic foods such as salad greens, chicken, ground beef, hunt's catchup, and chips. The only way I can afford salmon is when they have these deals. I asked a clerk at checkout if any people only get two-for-ones and she said that some people save more than 50% with coupons. Over all Lunds is more expensive than Cub for me, but just barely. And the service makes it well worth it. read more

This is a solid and calm location, with sufficient parking at all times. It's pricey but the produce is top notch. Overall, come here for things that matter to you for being organic, for meat and fish, and for the best grocery store soup in town. This is my grocery store. I feel better about the prices than Kowalski's, but it's definitely on the "nice" end for a grocer. I find that if I scrounge for sales and bulk up, that it evens out in the end. However, having a fully stocked freezer just so you pay a good price per pound has an opportunity cost too. That being said there are a lot of things I really like about this store. The produce section has everything I need, and the organic vegetables section isn't half of the root vegetable wall either, so they stock everything I would need for an ethnic or foodie recipe, not just two types of everything. For example, I wouldn't worry about a recipe that called for celery root, sunchokes and tomatillos because they consistently have those things on hand. I would say I'm especially impressed with their pepper section, because I've been working my way through an Aaron Sanchez cookbook that has called for everything from dried chiles de arbol to habaneros to chipotle peppers and Lunds has never let me down. The deli always has something on sale for several dollars off a pound, but it's never what I'm looking for so I usually buy a few and improvise with the recipe. Salmon is on sale at least every other week which I love. Another good sale every Friday is their five dollar rotisserie chicken, it can come with just classic poultry seasonings or with sauces like BBQ. The premade pasta salads and veggie/grain mixes here have never really jumped out at me. The ones at Kowalski's just seem a little more yummy, so if I'm getting some I usually just go there. I have not tried anything sweet at the bakery, but their English muffins, whole grain breads and take and bake rolls are a staple in my fridge. Like I said, this is my most frequented grocery store so I'm obviously fond of it given there are so many other options. Take my opinion as a home cook that goes after some ambitious recipes as you will, all I can really vouch for is a great assortment of fresh foods for my needs. read more

I hate to have to write this review, as I have shopped at this store for many years. However, I recently ordered groceries for curbside pickup. All of the items were as requested except one. I wanted green leaf lettuce. When I got home, I discovered that the lettuce was rotten and moldy. I wrote an email to the President of Lunds, Mr. Lund III at the corporate offices in Edina, with a copy to the "manager" of the Penn Ave Store. I received no reply. I then sent a letter to both, with a copy of my email. Again, no reply. Finally, I sent a second email (the third communication). Again, no reply. All I really wanted was an acknowledgment that they were sorry that they didn't handle my order very well. But, nothing. If they don't care about me, I guess I will shop elsewhere. They should not foist off bad produce to curbside customers. read more

Not much more I can say that hasn't been said. It's convenient and open late, and you're paying more than Cub Foods. I'll stick with what I know. Beef is pricier here than other upper-end supermarkets but with no notable increase in quality. The cuts they have available at any given time are inconsistent...I'll get something once, go in wanting it again and it's not there. There is also no meat saw in the back so good luck trying to get anything sliced or trimmed if you want something special. Cheese selection is good, they have a lot of stuff and there's always something interesting on sale. Deli selection is pretty standard and they carry Boar's Head, but price per pound is higher than other grocery stores that sell the same brand. Sushi Wednesday is nice when I happen to stop by and remember that it's going on. Occasionally their BOGO deals are good and worth snapping up. Some people rave about the pharmacy, but every time I've gone there trying to get something filled they never have it and tell me they have to order it, with a day delay. Not at all a bad place and I certainly stop here for convenience, but never for more than a few specific things. For this general price point there are marginally better places. If you're big on meat and fish, this location isn't the greatest because it has a smaller section. read more

This Lunds location is, in my opinion, "sturdy". What do I mean by sturdy? Well, I mean that there are no bells and whistles, yet it's a reliable place to run in grab a couple items and be on your way. Not located too far from the office, I tend to stop at this location on the way home. I find their selection on smaller side, but it's not bad enough to make me not stop or select another spot. So, if you are looking for a place to grab some items quickly, this does the trick. read more

We go to this Lunds location pretty frequently. The store is mid-sized with a good selection of grocery, fine bakery and pretty good produce with interesting variety. The butchers there are top-notch, very helpful. Every time I get meat and fish (except holiday rush) they ask how I'll prepare it and volunteer to season it! Nice! A big factor in shopping is the other shoppers, and we go to this Lunds instead of the 50th/France location because the Edina shoppers are so rude! My son asked me (after the second person tried to push him out of their way with a cart) "What's wrong with these people?" which was echoed by an elderly gentleman in the checkout lane. Something about the loss of civil society. Prices are more than the big boxes, but less than Kowalskis/Whole Foods. read more

I agree with Joshua Z. This place is quite the shopping experience, but you pay for what you get. And while it is more expensive than Cub you will be able to find high quality hard-to-find goods. What to visit for -Florals, they have a great selection of fresh and planted flowers at all times of the year. you can even get annuals on occasion. -Fish and Meat counter. They are helpful and knowledgeable and all products are clearly marked as to their source. They also list any Locally Sourced Meats and Wild Caught Fish. -Sushi. I'm not a sushi snob and I'll eat grocery store rolls when i don't want to bother with dinner. they have good quality standard rolls -Bakery. In the winter we love to grab a crusty loaf of bread for our soups. And it is an excellent place to stop for a delicious birthday or special occasion treats. They have more than the standard bakery also, there are several specialty pastries and the prices are reasonable. -Staff. The staff are excellent. we live near by so I see them often and they are always nice. The baggers do an excellent job and will carry out groceries to your car. -Cleanliness. This place is sparkling clean, no messes, no spills, no spoiled food. Though the food isn't outright expensive they don't have the super discount savings that Cub or Aldi offers. There is a nice Aldi down the street so we often get canned goods there and swing up to Lunds for fresh produce and baked goods. read more

My sweet mom died 1 1/2 years ago and we don't like to cook on Easter, as it was her special holiday. So we had Lunds Richfield make our holiday dinner. I am very picky! The dinner was flawless. The ham, tender and not salty, very flavorful, the scalloped potatoes we some of the best I've ever had,even home made, the carrots were so sweet and like tiny balls, my 92 year old father thought they were candy! The green salad was so good the dressing was the best ever! The carrot cake was really good too! Anyway, thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Lunds is ok. Not great, not bad but ok. I usually only shop here when they have their BOGO deals, otherwise, they're a little too expensive. I wasn't overly impressed with their sushi either. The fish didn't seem fresh and the rice had the texture of rubber. Needless to say, i'll never buy sushi here again - go to Kowalskis instead. read more
