This is a pretty standard Lunds- nothing short of what you would expect from the brand. There's a typical grocery store items and then a deli (prepared foods) and a butcher type situation. I find this location to be a little small but I assume that is due to the location. Even though I feel like it is a little smaller I can often get everything I need there. The produce and dairy is always fresh which I really like, and the cheese department (if you get the right employee) will offer samples of different options. Of course things are going to be a little more expensive but again that's Lunds & Byerlys for you. Will I return? When I'm in the area and need to grab something. Will I go out of my way to return to this location? No. There's plenty of closer options to me. read more

Lunds and Byerly's being a higher end grocery store, has a deli and some food options for a quick meal. This review is for the downtown Minneapolis location and just for their options for ready to eat food / deli. Their selection is a lot less than other branches and understandably so because it is a smaller location and downtown real estate is not cheap. It is clean and the staff is friendly but the good is not on par with what I expect from this chain. The soup and sandwich were mediocre and in my opinion, not worth the money. I have stopped by on numerous occasions to grab necessities or stuff I need for dinner on the way home and that has always been good. Adorable and well-stocked downtown grocery store! I found all my favorites: several brands of fair trade chocolate; locally roasted coffee to take home with me; Icelandic yogurt to supplement conference continental breakfast; local cheese curds and a great mustard and horseradish selection (one hopes for this in Minneapolis) including house-brand mustards. Caribou coffee on site, and the cashiers are pleasant. Also: flowers if you want to spiff up your hotel room a bit. Totally recommend. read more

Upscale supermarket with an impressive offering of gourmet ingredients, fancy foodstuffs, highest quality produce and high end groceries. This is undercut by having mostly self-checkout stations. The way I take this is that the owners think of their clientele as Walgreens customers. Prices are high for a place that expects me to ring myself up. Picked up a loaf of bakery sour dough bread and jars of lemon caper sauce. Took and 1 and a half hours to get there on public transit. The Lund and Byerlys down town store in Saint Paul in the building I live in has been gutted of many L&B prepared food and now carries primarily items you can get at most grocery stores but at much higher inflated L&B prices with reduced store hours. I have to edit this because although I was a cashier at this store, I could not think of anyone asking me for a key just to use the restroom. Recently, on my visit, I noticed there was an increased presence of off-duty law enforcement in the grocery and liquor store areas. Although this is reassuring, it is all the more deeply troubling as the Uptown and Downtown areas do not seem to be recovering from vicious riots. You either have control of your facilities or you do not. If you don't, you have no business being in grocery or retail whatsoever. As much as I love(ed) Uptown and Downtown, I do not know how much longer I can stay here. read more

I went to Byerlys on Pi day to get the, 'as advertised' , slice of pie for $3.14. They had no slices of pie. They had some whole pies for $3.14 off the price. No french silk pies. Really?? My go-to liquor store in if downtown because they have the essentials and will surprise you once and a while. They have a walk-in fridge for those wanting something cold. The proximity ti their grocery store certainly helps and if you are like me it's a classic way to kill two birds with one stone. Staff are friendly, but I haven't had a chance to gauge their knowledge on liquor. So don't expect thatch to recommend items. The store is best suited for those who know what the want. read more

Has anyone noticed that Lunds & Byerlys is price gauging during inflation? I have seen it across the board - see below. Cut up Cantaloup went from $4.99 per pound and now is $6.99. This is a ~29% increase. No Name salmon at first went from $18.99 for four pieces to $23.99 for four. This is a ~21% increase. Now they are selling two pieces for $14.99 which is another ~21% increase. From everything I have read, inflation has not increased as much as Lund's and Byerlys has increased their prices. There are several other ridiculous increases. Oddly enough, I have moved most of my business to Whole Foods Market because they are cheaper than the other store I have mentioned. read more

I didn't want to love this store. I resented that it was coming into my neighborhood. I was so sure this store, spendy by comparison to most other grocery outlets, would fail spectacularly. I'm so glad to be wrong! Your best bet is to take advantage of their $6 deals, like TP Tuesday and Sushi Wednesday. The sales are very competitive, often out-pricing the big guys. And the store itself is beautiful; love the produce, the meat counter is stunning and the cheese is a dangerous place for a cheese fan like me! Staff is super friendly and always offer to help me bag my purchases. The parking lot is a challenge, but a nice touch in the middle of downtown. read more

Every time I come to this location and use the self checkout, the employee's stare me down while I am ringing up my items! I 100% understand they are here to help when needed.... if and issue arises with the self checkout or what ever else.... I also understand this location is right downtown and I'm sure they've experienced a lot of theft! But when I can literally feel them staring a hole through the back of my head!....and when I turn around and catch them staring at me, m they quickly turn there heads and act like they weren't just watching you're every move!.... it's just uncomfortable....On top of that I have two other employees on each side of me also watching me closely as I ring up each item.... As a person of color this is nothing new for me.... I've experienced countless situations that made me feel uncomfortable! In this case I'm not saying that they were profiling me me, but it would not surprise me what so ever! Anyways I'm leaving this review because it's every time I've come to this Lunds & Byerlys I've experienced this, and there is a difference between watching and making sure a customer isn't in need of help, and Blatantly watching them as they check out each item and just making them feel uncomfortable! Lunds & Byerlys is one of the nicer Grocery stores, and I should be able to get what I need, check out and not feel watched, and uncomfortable! And they are just so obvious about it.... Like come on now, you can do you're job without making a (customer) feel uncomfortable, and awkward! Other than having difficulty finding the location (my GPS loves circle!), I enjoyed shopping here. I was in need of some fresh produce and I didn't like what was on offer nearer to my home. So, I searched on Yelp for other options and found that L&B was really close and didn't close until midnight! Woo hoo! I said to myself and the cats, who only blinked at me and continued licking themselves. The store is well laid out, despite its small size. The aisles are still big enough to breeze through if others are also shopping at the time. I did notice that I had to look in the named aisle if I were looking for an item that also happened to be on the end cap. I was able to find the varieties of yogurt I was seeking. Another great thing about this location is that you can enter and exit on Hennepin. While this might be dicier during the day, it's smooth sailing at night. also, the staff are friendly and helpful. So, if you find yourself downtown with an undying need for grapes and yogurt, like me, then this could be your spot. read more

I'm pretty disappointed in the new Lunds/Byerly's in the Highland Bridge neighborhood. They had an opportunity to make the checkouts better than the old store but they made them just the same where they bock every aisle when they are busy. They also had an opportunity to reach a more vast clientele by adding more dairy-free, meat-free and gluten free items but they chose to limit those options and cater to a very meat-centric clientele. I'm sure the majority of the people that will be moving into the new Highland Bridge neighborhood will be more interested in healthier options but Lunds/Byerly's still think it's the 1980s. read more

Bought m&m cookies nearly $9 a dozen. Opened the package and they were as hard as a rock. Looked for a managers contact info and could not find on the website. The only contact was through the catering link. Sent an email with a video showing rock hard cookies. Have not gotten a reply nothing. Poor customer service. read more

Chuck Dahlmeir followed me around the store and was very prejudice and racist to me prior to my purchase along with numerous employees who displayed blatant acts of racism and stereotypical actions/remarks. I was followed from the moment I walked into the building and constantly had police, Chuck, and the on duty security officer making me highly uncomfortable watching me as if I was some insinuated thief prior to me even making my purchase. I called the store, which had delivery waiting but their online dept had no idea why it wasn't delivered or how to get it delivered. the website or store had a way to cancel the order. I had to wait til morning to call back. At 9pm, long after I wanted the order, it arrived, so I couldn't even cancel it. very bad service. I will not be using Lund's again. read more

Attractive upscale medium size grocery store with high quality of products and prices commensurate with quality of the goods.

I am fortunate and spoiled because I live in the Bay Area, where there are more gourmet supermarkets i.e. Mollie Stone's, Draeger's, and Lunardi's to name a few. Alas, there are not too many gourmet supermarkets in Minneapolis. The Lunds & Byerly's grocery-chain has open a new store in the Hennepin District since June of 2012. This is a very nice store though with the ample store carrying full-service grocery, fresh produce, meat department, deli and bakery. There is a separate cellar for wine and all alcohol though. I did a quick glance and bought a 6-pack of Newcastle beer on sale for $7.99. All alcohol purchase is separate from the actual grocery store. Also the cashier asked this forty year old-fart for my ID for the beer purchase. "Yay!" I came here for dinner and I had a few pieces of chicken tenders and a medium bowl of French Onion Soup. The soup was a bit too salty. The chicken tenders were decent despite being in the hot counter for a while upon my 8:30pm purchase. Lund's Downtown - it's almost too good to be true! After years of talk and speculation about "will or won't" Lund's open in downtown Minneapolis, it has finally arrived. Downtown Mpls has long needed a grocery store with a large selection of healthy and fresh high quality foods. Sure the downtown Target store has quite a few staples, but I always found myself heading towards Uptown to go to Kowalski's, the Wedge or Whole Foods to fill up on quality produce. Enter downtown Lund's, exit stress over grocery shopping. Of all the Lund's stores I have visited, I like this one the best. Bright, clean, well-organized and well-stocked, it's the perfect place to grab everything I might need to try out a new recipe from the Food Network. The staff is helpful without being overbearing, and I've never had a problem finding what I am looking for. The prepared foods are amazing (samples on Saturday always get me to buy whatever it is they are hawking), so if I'm feeling too tired to cook and would rather just buy something someone else has made for dinner, I am never disappointed. You can fill up your wine tank while you're here too with the adjoining wine and spirits shop, or plug in your electric car with the outlets provided in the parking lot. A trip to Lund's can leave everybody happy, and I think one trip to the downtown Lund's will have you agreeing wholeheartedly :) read more

Sometimes there are entire foods gone, like green peppers or avocados. The isles are mini, so keep to your side when passing others! They do seem to carry lots of ready made to eat options. There is a cheese counter, hot foods, desserts, sushi, to-go-foods bar and packaged meals. I recently noticed there is a small corner dedicated to all things gluten-free, if that's your thing. It is up against the glass windows at the back by the bread/desserts and cheese. Lastly, checking out here is a breeze. The saving grace of this place is the free parking below the store. Their bakery is so small with little selection. Only a few small displays of baked goods. (I couldn't find regular bread loaves either?) Maybe I'm just not familiar with Lund's. They have poor options for eggs. Though I am very picky about what companies I give my money too so that's just me. Their card selection is terrible with only a few towers of them for specific occasions. Upon check out they only have plastic bags. Employees seemed so-so. I went here specifically to get birthday treats and birthday cards. So let down. read more

This is my favorite grocery store! The cheese selection is dangerously delicious and both meat and vegetables are always fresh. The variety is amazing throughout the store. I love sushi special Wednesdays and everyone who works there is incredibly friendly. The only downside is no paper bags! I usually bring my own, but if I make a surprise stop it is a bummer that I have to either buy a new reusable bag or take plastic. I asked and they said there isn't enough room to store them because of the downtown location. I get that, but still disappointed. read more

This is one of Lund's newest locations and I love it. It is perfectly located downtown and always has parking. They have a Wells Fargo ATM, Caribou, and Redbox so it's truly a one stop shop. -Cheese selection is great. -Pre-made salad area in the deli cases are nothing special. Certainly not as nice as their Uptown location. -Staff is friendly and very helpful. -Produce is fresh and has just the right mix of stuff you need. All in all, I love this location and am very glad to see them coming into downtown. read more

I live next door to this location which means anytime I get a hankering for ice cream, sushi, olives stuffed with garlic or a fresh pomegranate ... I head across the street to the local Lunds. Though the staff have slacked a bit since the grand opening, where people ran to give you samples and always had a smile, they are still friendly. I find the pasta bar, the olive bar and the fresh sushi can outshine most any bad day with the staff. Though I have been left to stand 10 minutes at the deli which features Boar's Head and the staff don't always seem to know how to work the check out, there is also a quick self-check out option to get you in and out. The floors are clean, the selection is awesome and the prices reflect the monopoly that this Lunds has on our downtown grocery market. read more

Lunds and Byerly's is a great upscale supermarket. The store itself is very eye appealing with many great looking options for precooked foods and regular grocery items. I am basing this review mostly on their bakery goods here. We got a salted caramel cupcake that is now one of my favorite cupcakes of all time. They had a caramel in the center that stayed soft and was very delicious. We also got some of their donuts, the old fashioneds we got were quite tasty. The cake donut we had left for something to be desired. I also liked that they had a Caribou Coffee in this location too. My wife also had a birthday cake made at a Lunds and Byerly's a few years ago and it was one of the best cakes we have ever had. The Lunds and Byerly's stores have shown me what expectations a supermarket should be like, would rate it a 4.5 if I could. I do wish they had some in the Des Moines area. read more
