If I keep even ONE person from engaging Raul and MHS Construction / Contractors, I will feel that this review has been worthwhile in compiling. Given the fact that someone affiliated with the company has posted a slew of fake reviews (Miguel is the managing member of the company FYI)... I'm hopeful that someone doing their homework will not look at a just a 4.8 rating, but instead take the time to read the 1 star reviews. We first contacted Raul in early 2022. Raul was extremely responsive, attentive, and seemingly competent. He put us together a really reasonable bid and we got started with demo in late March. As we worked with Raul, we noticed he didn't take notes while we talked... ever. He would snap pictures from his phone but wasn't taking notes. This was a big red flag but we ignored. During demo - I noticed that the person doing the work wasn't paying attention to safety or other little nuanced things like making sure nails weren't left exposed at the end of the day (I have young kids). That person left my fridge unplugged and ruined $300+ in food as well. Raul could only offer up an apology. I should have known this was a bad sign. Then it was the issue of building a pantry that was 7.5 inches too deep - it would have given us approximately 31 inches of walkway between it and the island. We had to have it rebuilt. Then there was the issue of putting cabinets on the front size of the island, I told him it would again cause a clearance issue through a walkway. Thankfully this just resulted in redesign instead of rework. I was literally showing him math and he just glazed over. Our backsplash is laced with permanent marker stains from the person who initially started workin on it. We had a total of 3 people touch the project. There's so many issues with the backsplash that it needs to be completely torn up and redone entirely for a THIRD time. There's missing tile pieces, jagged edges, and of course the marker stains. Again, Raul didn't catch any of this... we had to bring it to his attention because he doesn't audit any of the work. Flash forward to today (June of 2022)... and we have an incomplete kitchen which is laced with so so many material deficiencies for which MHS has been unable to correct in the last 12 weeks. Our original timeline was 4/5 weeks; however, this has ballooned due to several controllable factors, such as: - Raul constantly ordering the wrong materials / supplies - Raul not auditing work timely. This resulted in a 35.5 x 35.5 window being installed where a 36.5 x 38 3/4" window was to be. Now we have two materially different window sin our kitchen - Raul not ordering materials timely creating weeks and artificial time lags - Workers not showing up to perform work or showing up and leaving because they were "probably drinking" - according to Miguel. - Workers / contractors doing work incorrectly and necessitating duplication of work - And the most material issue which led to us severing with Raul: MHS / Raul making a credit card charge back and telling the vendor WE didn't pay him for the cabinets (though we have a paid invoice that states otherwise). They showed up to my HOUSE to inspect the cabinets because they couldn't resolve with Raul. Now we can't get any replacement parts to fix these cabinets and are missing multiple components and with instructions on how to finish things. We are missing many things (our rev-a-shelf system, mounting hardware for microwave, etc) that were either taken/stolen or thrown away. This amounted to $917. Workers stole our buckets, used our shop vac, our tables, ladder...all without permission. Raul also charged me over $700 in credit card processing fees even though I paid through my bank (HUGE mistake on my part - I should have had some credit card protection). Every time I walk into my kitchen I have anxiety and anger, mostly at myself for entrusting Raul and MHS to come into my home to do a subpar job on almost everything they touched. Do not be fooled... get someone else. read more

MHS was an excellent Yelp find! They recently did a fair amount of work on my house, ranging from floors to paint to electrical work, and even plumbing. Their prices were in the average to low average range of the quotes I received, and the work exceeded my expectations! When the flooring company I had tapped to do that part of the job, MHS swooped in the rescue, finding my exact flooring choices. I will definitely use them again for any future needs! read more

I have had the same handyman since I came to Texas almost 11 years ago. Last year, he moved (booo California!). Luckily, I hadn't had any big issues and I'm decently handy myself. However, I ran into some problems with one of the valves supplying water to my toilet (I hate toilet problems! Always an emergency!). I wanted to avoid a huge issue so I knew I had to find someone quickly. I searched "handyman" on Yelp and a few places came up. I called them and explained my issue. I had an old, compression shut off valve on one toilet and sometimes would have toilet issues. Generally, I like to cut the water off right there in the bathroom (as opposed to running outside and shutting off the water to the whole house). However, these compression valves wear out over time, as mine did. I wanted a new quarter turn valve, like my other bathroom had. Some of the results from my search gave my a REALLY high quote, and some even told me I needed to contact a licensed plumber through a vague email response (super expensive!). Not Miguel's Handyman Services. These are good, honest men running a family business. I called them, received a quote, and had them come by the next day. They arrived on time with two men and replaced the valve. This would have taken me HOURS, without a doubt, and who knows how good a job I would have done? I paid them exactly what they quoted (which was significantly less than the other highest ranking results when I searched "handyman" on Yelp). I left a paper towel under the valve to be sure it wasn't leaking anymore after they left. When I came back from work, I found the paper towel was damp. I called them again the next morning and told them it was still leaking a bit. They came by within a few hours and tightened the valve, free of charge. It has been about three weeks now and the valve has not leaked at all! I can cut off the water to this toilet with peace of mind now! They did an honest job, at an honest price, and came back and tightened it when I told them it wasn't completely fixed, no questions asked. They texted and called directly and answered every question I had. I wasn't dealing with middle men; I was in direct contact with the men doing the work. This is a local family business I will continue to support. I know who I will call when I need a handyman! read more

I had a chirping smoke detector that would not stop with battery replacements. I called Miguel's and they were able to squeeze me in the same day I called. They were courteous, quick, replaced the smoke detector and made sure it stayed quiet! I recommend you give them a call for any home repair or maintenance. read more

I called the number listed on this Yelp page and didn't get Miguel, but got his son Victor on the phone. He was very courteous, nice, and easy to talk to. Over the phone, we exchanged info, agreed on a time, date, and price and even sent an email correspondence to confirm with all parties involved with all the information. However, when it came to the day of the installation of what we needed the services for, he got confused with the time and date so we were left hanging that morning. Although we were able to connect, and have him come out to the location later that same day to do the service, still it was not a great experience. He did not bring a ladder to install the blinds, and then installed one of them wrong which fell on my tenant, which my tenant had to install it himself which only took about 5 minutes. I would probably wait until this company gets a little more reviews to judge on if you go with them, seems like they are still finding their way towards professionalism. read more
