As this was our first construction project, we were filled with uneducated questions and concerns. Adam and his team were impressive, kind and patient in handling all our questions. They made us feel very comfortable coming to them with anything. Andrew was our main lead for the day-to-day and did a great job keeping all the subs moving and on track. The craftsmanship work that A.R. Lucas designed and crafted are beautiful and unique, and definitely my most favorite parts of the add-on. We were drawn to A.R. Lucas Construction for their craftsmanship, attention to detail and budget insight. Robert and Lana are awesome!…read more In the last three months, Top Notch has done the following for us- - replaced and painted an exterior door - textured and painted two bathrooms - re-shingled our roof - replaced gutters - washed and stained a patio - replaced a light fixture - put in a set of interior french doors and two regular interior doors - painted a vanity and made a new top for it - painted several rooms ..... and I am sure there are at least 5 things that I am forgetting! Top Notch can do almost anything you need done for your house and they'll do it for a reasonable price and at the time they said they would do it! It's even nicer that both Lana and Robert are great at responding to emails and texts as s that can make it WAY easier to communicate while you're stuck at work. I would highly recommend having them come out and give you an estimate on your next project. I mean.. now that they've finished all that stuff for us I guess it's ok to let you all know how great they are :)

I talked to Robert for about ten minutes. He didn't want to do quotes on evenings or weekends, but my husband and I both work. He eventually said "my wife will kill me, but I'll do it on an evening." He then said we both have to be there in case my husband and I argue and disagree on the work he does, and he couldn't put himself in a position between married people. That sounded a little weird to me, but he sounded nice otherwise, so I figured I'd give him a shot at the work. The next day, I got a voicemail from his wife canceling our appointment saying that we "weren't a good fit for them." I just wish they'd been honest from the beginning and not wasted my ten minutes writing down every detail of the work I wanted and all my contact information and where I'd heard of them if they were just going to cancel immediately afterward. The whole encounter was weird.

After touring my home and discussing the project I had in mind he had a detailed multi-page proposal for me. The first bed I received from a contractor was literally an email that went something like, Kitchen: 15k, Bathroom: 10k, Garage: 15k...Not very assuring. Shawn and his team were assuring from the get go. Communication with everyone on the team from his right-hand man, Oscar, and design wiz, Sara, to the plumber and electrician were streamlined by use of an app called Slack they use. This was so useful when you are working on a mult-month job and always have a ton of little questions or concerns. I could easily just shoot it out into the app and anyone on his team could respond. I loved that. And these guys are top-notch. Oscar did some amazing things in here. When we found an unexpected load-bearing beam, he expertly engineered a huge beam across the near-length of the kitchen that allowed us to fully open up the area...without hiring an engineer (my decision). That thing was solid. Then he took my dated fireplace and lathered it in multiple layers of concrete and mortar to make what is now a piece of modern art. Sara and Shawn both have an eye for design. When I sent a photo of one of my bathrooms to a friend she told me it looked with the W. In a few areas of the house they kind of nudged me to let them have some artistic leave and I am so glad they did. My master bath is now a study in what you should do for any small bathroom space and my laundry room has added about 100+ square feet to the home and functions as a mud room. All of the contractors he works with are exceptional as well. I will always use David O from Make it Drain plumbing and Irvin with Retiz Electric. Both of these guys are masters of their trades and very friendly and reliable too. Overall, I could not recommend Shawn and his team more. It was an honor to work with these guys. I worked with Shawn on the design and he was always openminded about what I wanted to do and willing to provide suggestions or recommendations. His team of subcontractors did quality work and were respectful of me and my home. I had lots of people in and out of my house and had full trust in them. Most importantly, Shawn is an excellent communicator. He is always a text or phone call away, and would make time in his busy schedule to drop by the house and meet with me as needed. I have heard horror stories from my friends of contractors who disappear in the middle of a project or fail to respond to requests for updates or questions. I had none of these problems with Shawn. My renovation turned into a much bigger project in terms of the amount of changes that were made, but it never felt hopeless or endless, and the end result made it all worth it.
