Consistency can be a great thing in a business. That is, of course, unless it is constantly bad. This is my third review of this place and much like the way their business is ran, my review will be constantly bad. I will say that the wait staff is fine and deserves a fair amount of grace. They can only do so much. If I were the owner I would fire the kitchen manager, the bar manager, and myself out of embarrassment. The entire system needs thrown out and redone. Perhaps just sell the building to someone who actually cares about the business and wants to make proper changes. Once again, the food took forever to come out, and after well over two hours we only got two of four items ordered. The quality of the food was fair to poor at best. You will never find yourself craving anything from here. Then you have the poorly stocked bar. They ran out of three things while we were there. All before 8pm on a Saturday. Their whisky selection is embarrassing for a place with a Cigar Lounge. At this point we will only go back for events and we will be either eating before or just taking our own food to eat there. Probably our own drinks too since they can't seem to do that right. Mismanaged. Uninspired. Underwhelming. Embarrassing. Wasteful. Shameful. read more

The food is always very tasty. The variety in brews and ales is superb. The music tends to be very loud due to somebody painting over the acoustic absorbing tiles in the ceiling. I have found that the temperature is normally very low in the bar for some reason which is why I prefer not to go there for too long. The billiards table is in dire need of some TLC and the cues are severely lacking. The service is great though. read more

We stopped for an after-dinner drink on our visit to Cumberland. Service at the bar was friendly and efficient. It wasn't crowded for a Thursday; although, I imagine the crowd was larger than normal as there was a punk festival band playing downstairs. There was trivia at 7:30 advertised, but at 7:25 there was no sign of a trivia host, players, etc. The bathrooms were disgusting -- one clogged with human waste and one with a feminine product. The repurposed building has a cool quasi-industrial vibe, but better air circulation and attention to the restrooms are necessary. read more

I went in this bar and grill this evening with two girlfriends. We went in there to have a late night snack before going home. We sat there for over an hour and waited for an order which was nothing but chili cheese fries, boneless wings, crab d ip and a order of fries. We sat there for over an hour and 40 minutes and they kept telling us it's going to be another 15 to 20 minutes. The service there sucks. The waiter did not even come to our table and ask us if we needed anything, also the waiter did not even go back in the kitchen and check our orders and see how it was coming along. No he stood at the bar we're all the other people were hanging out at and drinking. But forgot the three customers that were sitting at the table patiently waiting, but got totally ignored. My favorite bar and restaurant ever. The staff is awesome. They make you feel at home every time. The Monday night tacos are amaze balls. Brads dry rub wings are the best wings in town. The building itself is an awesome piece of turn of the century architecture. Also, they have a BYO cigar room that is the classiest place to smoke a cigar in western Maryland. Go! I went in to have a nice night with my friends and our bartender was quite literally drinking behind the bar. She looks at my ID after we ordered our drinks. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and she went around the blender with rum about 6 times and opened the strawberry mix with her teeth. There was about a double shot glass amount of extra after pouring out my drink. She was saving it for herself, she was drinking in as our service continued. As she was serving us, she was eating out of other customers bowls of food if they walked away. My friend ordered a strawberry margarita on the rocks, came out frozen (no biggie) but she didn't listen. Food was subpar, mozzarella sticks were so chewy. Overall, not a good experience for the first time going out to a bar after turning 21. read more

Went here twice on our trip. First night was on Super bowl. Everyone was really great and we had a great time. The only downfall was the nachos- stale as hell chips. We loved the wings! Second time we came dinner with a certificate from restaurant.com everything we ate was great. only disappointment was we ordered the smore martini as we did on Superbowl night and when it came it looked completely different, according to the server everyone makes it different. Mezzos strikes again. Let's start with the atmosphere. Every Thursday at 6:00 in the winter they host the cornhole league upstairs. Not one Thursday so far have they actually had the heat on up there. Every single week someone has to ask. Last night the thermostat read 58. Now food. Once we have waited for them to set up their upstairs bar, we can order food. Last night's special was a burger and fries. Placed the order and waited. We see other food coming out that was ordered after us, so we ask where ours is. We were told they didn't have any burgers so they had to go get them. BURGERS WERE THE SPECIAL. I couldn't help but laugh. There was no offer to change the order (which we should have been approached about when the issue was realized). FINALLY the food arrives. In perfect Mezzo's fashion, it's cold. I have never once received hot food from this establishment. And mind you, I have eaten here many times over the last two years. I literally have nothing positive to say for this place. It's dingy, dirty, the service is horrible and the food is cold. Go anywhere else. read more

We arrived in Cumberland on a Sunday night and our train was late so we were left with limited dining options. Despite the reviews, we decided to give Mezzos a try and had an excellent evening. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. The drinks were great and the food was excellent. I had a chicken Caesar salad and my husband had the buffalo chicken flatbread pizza. Both were terrific and while the food was a little slow, we would definitely return. Don't be in a hurry and just enjoy the vibe great food and drinks. read more

I travel the country for work, this place is by far the worst place I've been to. The food was so gross! It was so bad that I even ordered chicken strips and they messed that up. It looked like petrified wood and tasted like cardboard. I had two others with me, they messed up both their orders. Food was bad enough that none of us finished half of our meals. WORTH A TRY. I have been multiple times whether for food, drinks, or a throw down evening. The extent of my experience has been all over the place. SERVICE: The bartenders do a good job on most nights to beat back the crowds and serve people as quickly as possible. They are generally friendly and attentive. FOOD: Early on their menu was very good. I had went here regularly for lunch and once for dinner. However, more recently things have went down hill. I don't mean to jump on a bandwagon of unhappiness but unfortunately my food wasn't done very well and rushed which made it sloppy and difficult to eat. Another trip yielded a 30minute wait without my meal and then upon it's delivery- it was cold. This could be cleaned up by management very easily. OVERALL: I would recommend this spot for night life more than their food until the hiccups are dealt with. They possibly already have been. It is worth a try- and the cost a somewhat high for the area, but not unbearable. read more

Ok... We were passing through Cumberland on our way to Deep Creek and figured (despite the not so great reviews previously listed) we would give this place a shot. I would say the best part of our experience was the entertainment (@theladybirds). We ordered the BBQ boneless wings, home style roast beef sliders, and the all American beef sliders. The wings were not what we expected (which were recommended by the bartender). They were cut up pieces of chicken, deep fried, with BBQ sauce drizzled on top. And they were a little hard. The roast beef sliders were ok. I decided to eat my burgers without the bun and they were ok. It was too much bun for such a little slider. A little more sauce would be good. And a slice of tomato would be better then a cherry tomato cut in half. I don't know if this restaurant will be a stop on our next trip through Cumberland. read more

New to the area and had heard about them on the radio and decided to give them a try... Sat down after finding a clean table. The place wreaked of cigarette smoke but wanted to give the food a try. Now it was about 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't busy. There was only one other couple there eating. After about 10 minutes, a waitress took our order. Ordered the special which was a large Cheese Pizza with an order of "boneless buffalo wings" for $23.99. Also had a couple of appetizers. The appetizers arrived and were good. A different girl brought out the pizza and boneless wings. Problem was, when I noticed the pizza, it was a Pepperoni special which was $26.99..... Would have told the waitress but we never saw her again. No drink refills, no checking if we needed anything...nothing. Finally, just decided to eat it....25 minutes later she showed up and asked if everything was ok... My wife didn't want to say anything, but I'm not that type to take such bad service and not say anything so I voiced my complaints, and they could have cared less. She said they were setting up for a lager party in the back and I told her that was no reason to totally ignore the customers that were already there. To top it off, when I went to pay, I told the girl at the register that I had ordered the Cheese Pizza/Boneless Wing special and they had brought us the Pepperoni Special and she said it's ok, they're the same price and charged me the $26.99 for it. I had to show her the menu listed the Cheese Pizza special at $23.99 and she reluctantly deducted the difference. The food was ok but the staffs attitude is the reason I'll never go back. read more

Mezzo's is probably one of the nicer looking bars in Cumberland. It has a cool inlay of gear works above the main door, a cigar lounge overlooking the front street, hardwood floors, brick walls, and leather chairs. It is classy, but not snooty at all. When it gets packed they run a side bar for The more popular beers. Their main bar had some good taps, but they are all domestics. Sam Adams, angry orchard, blue moon, and Sierra Nevada are they most exotic you'll find. It's a great repurpose for a building and the people are nice. They have pool, darts, and tv's. 1st time going to their Sunday AYCE. It was very confusing as to what we could order, so we ordered it all. Waitress said we could have 5 choices, so most of us ordered 5 different things. Had NO idea how large the portions were going to be or we wouldn't have ordered 5 choices. So when we asked for a box, waitress said NO, can't take it with you. Well, we didn't ORDER to fill our doggie bags!, we ordered as she suggested, which was huge portions, & b'cuz of that, we could not take home our leftovers! We did NOT plan to over order.She told us that we had to leave the leftovers there!! I think we should have been allowed to take them with us, so that food b'cuz the portions were so big, was sent to the trash! The food was really good. I travel a lot and first tried this place about 2 years ago and it was awful! Never got greeted or even smiled at until I walked up to person behind bar on phone and asked for service after 15 mins.She acted like I was an inconvience!!!! Food sucked, no refills or even silverware! We ate with our hands! So my wife and I left vowing never to come back! Then my grand kids said they wanted to go since it looked "trendy" so, reluctantly we went, and I have to say, I was amazed! Not only was I greeted, sat, explained the menu, but I felt like I mattered and customers need that. Food took a little long but our bartender kept us talking so it flew by! I started to make a point to stop by for their loaded potatoes! Then boom! I stopped by today and it was back to rude, no manners and no food since we waited over an hour. Turns out the bartender who always made sure we were taken care off quit . In fact, many patrons I've talked to over the past year agree she should just run the place herself! You know her by being the brunette running around doing everyone's jobs but always looking beautiful and graceful, call her "Chevy". Be very cautious with Mezzos and the delivery option. I called, provided address, and they said it was "too far". Interesting because Google maps shows it was 2 minutes away and .2 of a mile. We were anxious to try some of the food here after looking at the menu online.......it's a shame we never had a chance to do so!! After walking in & not being greeted, we sat ourselves at a DIRTY table.......waited at least 10 minutes & we were never even ACKNOWLEDGED by staff!! The food is good here and the waiters are nice, but the service is sooooooooo slooooow. This is not a one time thing, every time I am here it takes about 20 minutes to get acknowledged, and then another 30 for the food, and often times they don't have something on the menu and usually we're about 45 minutes in at that point. We've been bicycling the GAP trail for the last two days and stopped for the night in Cumberland. Mezzo came up here on Yelp as well-rated and nearby, so we stopped in. I am writing this review from the table. We have been waiting over 70 minutes now for our order to be delivered. Most of the plates are here, but we've had to ask three different servers for the last plate. How hard is it to fulfill orders at an all-fried-all-the-time kind of place? Not even half of the tables are occupied, they've got 3-4 employees here, I'm not sure what their problem is, but I hope nobody else falls for it and tries this place. read more

We have stopped here on several occasions when visiting home for some drinks. We decided that on our next visit we would stop in for dinner. The wings were very good along with the order of sliders but I would recommend avoiding the salads. Over priced for serving size and not very appealing. Had lunch here. My buddy and I ordered chicken sliders and cheeseburger sliders. Both were tasty although mine, the beef, were only lukewarm by the time they were served. Both came on what appeared to be buns baked onsite. This place has an interesting menu and good beer selection. My biggest gripe is about the cigar shop (the reason I came here) inside of this place. For one you have to get the waitress to let you in as she abandons her customers in the restaurant to do so. Once the door is unlocked to the humidor what you see is a lot of empty shelves and very limited selection. I've seen gas stations with better offerings. The actual smoking room has comfy looking chairs and big windows. Looked really inviting for having a cigar except there wasn't anything that interested me outside of the montecristo whites. They had posters for other cigars that didn't appear to be in stock. I felt bad about taking the waitress from her work so I bought one to take with me and tipped her a buck. Our family was gathering the past weekend for the breast cancer walk starting at canal place. After the walk we went to Mezzos for lunch. We were a very large group. Thirty-five to be exact. Everything about this gathering place was wonderful. Great food, full bar, very comfortable seating, sports on big screen tv's and good service. Top menu items for our group was the pizza and sliders. Everything was fresh. We will definitely be back next year. Mezzos is a real diamond in the rough. read more
