Today I went to Mezcal Mexican Restaurant. The food is good and, most of the time, the service is friendly, but today I had a customer service issue that really bothered me. On the menu, the kids meal says it comes with a drink. My daughter ordered a kids meal with a drink, but when I received the check, I noticed I was charged separately for the drink. I called the manager over and explained the issue. She told me that if the child is over 12, the drink is not included. I explained that nowhere on the menu does it say that. She grabbed a menu to show me, but after looking, there was still no wording explaining that policy. She then said, "We still have the right to charge you. It's not written, but this is our policy." I didn't like the answer, but I paid the bill and still tipped the waiter because this wasn't about the server. My issue was with how the situation was handled. I believe the menu should clearly reflect that policy, or the restaurant should honor what is written on the menu. Good customer service is about communication and transparency. This post is not to tell people not to go to Mezcal, because the food is still good, but I do hope the customer service improves and that customers are informed ahead of time when extra charges may apply. read more

Be prepared for a great dining experience! After a very busy day and very hungry, my daughter and I decided Mezcal would be a good place for dinner. Upon entering the building, we both were impressed with the beautiful decor and relaxed atmosphere! We selected different dishes to try (and share), and were not disappointed! The cuisine was absolutely delicious and not your typical Mexican food. The staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful in helping us choose a perfect meal! We will be returning!!!! Ordered take out. It has been a while since we ordered Mezcal. The enchilada trio was filling and sauce was on point. The fries were cooked perfectly and crisp. The flautas come with a generous amount of fixings and are cut so they are easy to eat. The delivery was quick, faster than expected, and everything arrived hot. I wish they added more beans with the 3 enchiladas, they were delicious. You can't beat the prices for the amount of food you get. I only give it a 4 instead of a 5 because we didn't get the napkins and utensils. read more

A classic Mexican American joint. Staff is super friendly and accommodating for kids. Food is great if you are looking for the American style Mexican (I got enchiladas and fajita). And they have fantastic margs which is always a plus. read more

The food here was delicious . Huge portions so be mindful when eating the warm chips and salsa they bring to you as you're seated. They offer plenty of seating and a bar. The staff is warm and friendly and there when you need them I recommend the Hawaiian burrito. The pineapple and cheese with chicken is delicious read more

I've been meaning to post!! It'almost been a year since we relocated from south/central Texas and it's been hard/rare to find good Tex-mex or even Mexican food around here. I'd been to Mezcal for a work event and had their agua de jamaica and was instantly transported back to my mom's kitchen! So we came back for days nene! Drinks: The alcoholic drinks were ridiculous in size, so choose wisely. They were yummy, though. Artificial fruit in the marg, but still good. The food was great: Chile rellenos for my hubby and an enchilada Veracruz for me! Service and ambience were both great. The server was patient and kind and attentive. Since my last review, I have been ordering Carryout there every 7 to 10 days. We have become fond of the Veracruz Burrito with chicken and shrimp and then we switched to shrimp only. It has always been a generous size burrito and well filled with fresh grilled shrimp, rice, seasonings and a delicious white cheese sauce. Really good! Several times in last few months, the burrito has become smaller, the amount of shrimp become less and less, and very little cheese sauce. Very disappointing! I hope things change because I want to continue ordering there. read more

Second time around at Mezcal. The food is still as good as I remember it. The Molcajete is always a show stopper! The staff members are super friendly and accommodating. We had the chance to be there until closing time and we saw that they really work hard at cleaning the restaurant. We saw their staff wiped things down from the decorations on the wall to the tables. And they even moved tables and booths to do a full sweep on the floor. You can rest assured they maintain a clean environment. We left our card by accident and one of the waiters ran after us to give it back! :) I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Do not go here expecting authentic Mexican cuisine. The "street tacos" come on one tortilla rather than two of you request corn. The "spicy salsa" is nothing close to spicy. The rice tastes like Knorr, and the beans are salted to death. Even the salsa and white sauce are terrible - salsa tastes like bottled, and the white sauce is more akin to lightly seasoned mayonnaise. I gave two stars because, despite the mediocre food, the staff here is AMAZING. Quick, friendly, and helpful. The drinks are very good and the whole restaurant down to the bathrooms is clean, well lit and has an enjoyable atmosphere. It was sad that such a nice experience was marred by mediocre food. read more

Great food, great drinks, great service!! When you can go to a restaurant and get all three, it's a winner! I've had the El Jalisco (chicken with shrimp, onions, peppers, and mushrooms) and the Veracruz fajitas (chicken and shrimp)...great flavor. They have black beans on the menu, which most Mexican restaurants do not - the beans are delicious. The portion sizes are huge. The drinks are huge!! Ordered take-out trying something different as we usually order from our go to which is great just wanted to try something different. Ordered beef and chicken quesadillas, carne asada, and flan. Mezcal is our new favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. It is close to Buckroe Beach. The service is excellent. I felt that every time I visited I was treated like royalty. The service is fast as well. I love their salsa and they do bring additional salsa and chips if you ask for it. My favorite dish is Carne Asada. It tastes delicious. The dinner portions are large. The lunch portions are smaller and they give you a choice of either bean or rice. They have live mariachi some evenings. read more

This place will always be our go to for authentic Mexican cuisine. We are always greeted with a smile and a truly clean environment worthy of a great meal. Our favorite is the house made hot sauce it has a KICK and a little goes a LONG way. The food has always been great for us although I have heard friends say they are inconsistent. Although Nickerson isn't the best location, this was a great restaurant with top notch service and quality food. I grew up right around the corner (walking distance) from this restaurant and I've seen countless businesses in this space that didn't last. But, Mezcal has authentic, affordable, and tasty Mexican food. Upon arriving, the restaurant was empty, so my friend and I were seated immediately. The server was nice and even laughed at me for having McDonald's coffee but wasn't rude and didn't ask me to throw it out (thanks!) The food that my friend and I ordered arrived quickly and we were checked on often, even as more guests came in. The staff is very friendly and polite. My chimichangas were super good. I usually get the seafood chimichangas at Plaza Azteca. The same meal here was a lot cheaper and better quality. My shrimp were extremely fresh and their rice is seasoned so well and has a refreshing, lime flavor that makes it savory and delicious. The white sauce for their chips is quite flavorful as well with a tangy/sweet taste that is unique to their establishment. I've had the white sauce before at other places (that happens to only exist in a few states, Virginia being one), but they have a great recipe that tastes a little different from any I've had, but it was yummy. If they could get more people in with maybe salsa nights, karaoke, or live music (mariachi or Latin Jazz), they'd be able to get a good clientele. Great job on everything. I'll be back! read more

We went to Mezcal as a birthday dinner for my son. It is one of the first times that we have actually been inside a restaurant since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. We are fortunate in that all of us have been vaccinated and felt safe to go in. Mezcal had protocols in place and I did not feel unsafe at any point in time. Now, on to the food! Their menu is typical of family Mexican restaurants, but what separated them was the fact that their portions were huge! I am not a small person, but all of us had food that we were able to bring home for a second meal. I highly recommend their queso with chorizo. Service was adequate, but my table wasn't visited as frequently as I observed the service at other tables. It happens. I shrugged, ate, and tipped. The most recent time (the previous review) was a covid-era pick up. My grammar was lacking in that post - it was that visit only when the cashier looked right past me even though I was standing right in front of him at the register.
