Today I went to Mezcal Mexican Restaurant. The food is good and, most of the time, the service is…read morefriendly, but today I had a customer service issue that really bothered me. On the menu, the kids meal says it comes with a drink. My daughter ordered a kids meal with a drink, but when I received the check, I noticed I was charged separately for the drink. I called the manager over and explained the issue. She told me that if the child is over 12, the drink is not included. I explained that nowhere on the menu does it say that. She grabbed a menu to show me, but after looking, there was still no wording explaining that policy. She then said, "We still have the right to charge you. It's not written, but this is our policy." I didn't like the answer, but I paid the bill and still tipped the waiter because this wasn't about the server. My issue was with how the situation was handled. I believe the menu should clearly reflect that policy, or the restaurant should honor what is written on the menu. Good customer service is about communication and transparency. This post is not to tell people not to go to Mezcal, because the food is still good, but I do hope the customer service improves and that customers are informed ahead of time when extra charges may apply.
