We were served by Kylie (Kyleigh?) on the patio and she was fantastic. I was a server/bartender in Hampton roads for close to 10 years and she provided my family and I with the best service I have received in a restaurant in a long while. Please give her all the kudos and praise for being a talented server and all around awesome person. Thanks Kylie you capped off a great Saturday. Food and drinks were amazing as well.

Whether it's with friends or just the two of us, we've never been disappointed. Let's see how this visit went. We were immediately seated once we walked inside. It wasn't completely packed for a Saturday afternoon but staff was really busy with customers. The vibe was one that made us comfortable for the most part. After a few minutes of looking over the menu, we were ready to order. My selection was the Tavern Monte Cristo which consisted of chargrilled chicken and ham as the protein with Gouda cheese and cider aioli fried in a tempura batter with tavern fries. The meal was served hot and ready and tasted great. And having the cranberry coulis as a dipping sauce really added some taste. My only gripe with the sandwich was the amount of protein. I'm not sure if I ate most of it when we dined in, but when I ate the rest for dinner, it was more breading than anything else. Still good but they could've included more. Nonetheless, I was full. Good stuff as always from Park Lane Tavern :)

I would totally go back to be served by her. The food was amazing I got 6 "laughing king" oysters and oyster chowder. My husband got the oyster po boy which he would rate an 8/10 (there was a lot of bread but still great) but the shoe string fries were easily a 10/10. I will definitely be back for this downtown corner cute wharf-like vibe!

While this restaurant isn't on the water, it's definitely close (2 miles) to a beautiful beach. The ambiance of this place has a great vibe. The interior decor has a great bar setting where you can sit up and watch TV and order some ice cold oysters. Or you could grab a table inside or outside and visit with family. We opted for the outdoors as we had a quick glimpse of sun on this rare April day, and got to sit under the umbrella patio. Our waitress was super accommodating and brought us our four oysters and tuna salad with shoestring french fries very quickly. My daughter ordered the fried fish sandwich that had melty cheese and some tartar sauce on it. It was a solid sandwich, nothing to write home about, but definitely gave us a beach ocean feel vibe. Four oyster sampler went from sweet to salty and didn't disappoint! They were fresh. They were cold and they had a great minionette and spicy horseradish to accompany.

Unfortunately, over time the experience has slowly declined. Food quality: The seafood just isn't prepared with the same care it once was. Flavors feel less fresh, and the overall execution has slipped. Service: Staff used to be attentive and welcoming, but now service feels inconsistent and less polished. Presentation: Even the way dishes are plated has gone downhill, which takes away from the enjoyment of the meal. Highlights: Oyster nights are still fun, and I do enjoy trying new varieties when they're available. That tradition keeps me coming back occasionally. Consistency & value: As someone who has lived in Newport News for over 20 years and been a regular here, I look for consistency and good value. Sadly, Harpoon Larry's no longer delivers on those fronts. Overall, while Harpoon Larry's still has its moments, especially on oyster nights, it's hard to recommend it as a regular go-to spot anymore.

This past weekend, I visited, and it happened to be Restaurant Week. My go-to meal is their crab cake sandwich and fries, but I ventured out and tried their special: New England Clam Chowder and Seafood Mac and Cheese. The chowder was okay. The clams were a little chewy and it lacked flavor; needed a few more dashes of salt at the least. The seafood Mac and Cheese had potential. The crab meat on top looked enticing. The noodles were cooked to perfection. But the flavor was also lacking. It was not cheesy enough to call a Mac and cheese and again needed more salt and/or other seasonings. There also wasn't much seafood to boast about. Maybe a scallop or 2, a very small quantity of shrimp....the crab meat and roll were the highlight. 3 STARS (for this visit). The service was GREAT! Attentive, fast, and friendly. But I was disappointed with this dish. I'll be back. I'll get my crab cake!
