Jesus and his guys transformed our front and back yard plus driveway. It was a pretty sizeable landscaping and hardscaping project and they delivered a great output for a reasonable budget. During the course of the project, they showed up everyday and worked hard to deliver 95% of the project on time within about 4 months. For that I give them full marks. The last 5% is what I have to take some of those marks away and to share our experience for the benefit of others. What should have been a day or 2 worth of work to fix a few things and wrap up the project ended up taking 2+ months to resolve. Jesus kept saying he had to be in Mexico for family reasons with no cell signal and therefore could not respond. In any event, as a customer, even though we tried to be sympathetic, our patience was running thin as this happened repeatedly. Jesus is a reasonable guy with a professional and knowledgeable team. However, we found communication to be quite challenging in the last 2 months. Having said all of that, taking the whole picture in view, they offer an affordable service (for bay area prices at least) with reasonably high quality. Unfortunately, as much as I love this company and Jesus personally as a person, I am forced to update my review to be factually accurate. As a few others with low reviews have noted, Jesus is a bit overloaded and sometimes disappears. He had to leave for Mexico during a significant remodel project and I kept our project going...which was a bit of a challenge since my Spanish is a bit rusty. I had little notice when he went MIA, but due to his personality I didn't mind and acted as project manager. I don't mind having to act PM of my own project, but the reason I'm forced to update my review is due to this: At the end of our $40k cash remodel (our remodel was sizably higher but that was his portion) we hired him to do more work. This additional work was to replace brand new lawns we had hired a previous landscaper to install a few months prior, and to finish the side yard. I paid his man in full once they "completed" the project given my faith in Jesus, but I made sure Jesus knew that there were issues that needed to be solved (dead patches of grass, sprinkler heads not working, install of moss was inadequate with no top soil and planting of 40+ Irish moss into dead ground which didn't hold). He promised me, and my wife, that these issues he agreed were his responsibility would be fixed. Months later, no labor was sent to repair. Instead, he visited once again with me and my wife to review the issues he knew needed to be addressed and promised a crew on Friday. They never arrived with zero communication. After a few weeks my wife reached out to Jesus and made it clear our patience was spent, and she and Jesus agreed on $4,700 cash refund to cover the repairs of the above already mentioned, plus the cuts his guys put into our $30k deck because they foolishly used the saw and wire on our brand new deck to cut the wire. Well, a guy showed up with $1,500 - not $4,700 - and we've never heard from him since. I could report him to the EDD and do a small claims case, but honestly, I like Jesus and his team. I just feel obliged to help my fellow Yelpers and tell them - if you have someone else you can trust and is reliable, go there and pass on Meza. read more

We desperately needed our front lawn and backyard tidied up because it just looked dry and sad. We used Yelp to help us with a few landscaping quotes and found that Jesus at Meza Landscaping was attentive to what we needed. He came out to do the measurements and jot down what it was that we wanted done for both the front and back yard. After a couple days, he sent us a very detailed quote, which really helps considering we were a little over our heads budget-wise. He gave us some time to think about it and ultimately, we decided we would still want him to do the job but only the front yard. He was accepting of that and would continue to honor our quote for the backyard when we were ready. His men were ready to go almost immediately! We opted for a walkway, turf, and river rocks where plants once were. We were told the job would take approximately 10 days but they finished ahead of schedule! The men arrived on time every morning and even worked on the weekends to complete the job. They were very respectful of our property and did a fantastic job! It was so nice to see the house look cleaned up - even our neighbor complimented how great the work was! It is rare that you have no friction with contractors when it comes to big jobs, so I'm very glad I hired Meza. If I were to find a negative, I would say that their pavers crew could have done a better job with scratches and cement stains. However, Jesus promptly sent help to address those issues after the job was done. I had a crack show up a couple months after the job (crack in the grout between the pavers), and Jesus promptly scheduled someone to come out and address it. Hired them to redo our backyard lawn. While they were experienced, accomodating and quoted way higher for redoing the grass, I still went with them looking at the good reviews on yelp. A few weeks later, the new grass started getting patches. When we finally mowed after weeks, we could clearly see and feel the uneven level of the ground. I shared pictures and they sent someone to have a look. That person agreed that they messed up the leveling but agreed that their bodd Jesus Meza is not in favor of fixing the level since it would mean redoing the whole thing. Then one fine day after many reminders, I get a text from Jesus saying he is coming to have a look at the patches. What I find is that he has sent his team with sod that was left over from another job that they were doing and next thing I see is that they had begun digging up the problem areas. When I asked them what they were doing to fix the level, they went silent and one person said you need to talk to boss who refused to pick up my calls. When I asked them to wait until I talk to Jesus, they said the sod is going to be useless after today so they must put it now. This behavior was uncalled for ..esp for someone who is charging way higher for installing new grass than the average price. A few weeks later the same patches appeared again. This time NO answers to my text. I informed them that it is something to do with sprinklers not giving enough water but no response. They think that they already have a good number of reviews on yelp so one bad review won't hurt. Sharing pictures so people can see for themselves. Pls don't go with them unless you have a big job because they dont really care for a small size job. After the crazy windy storms this past winter, my fence needed some repair and Meza delivered high-quality service. Over the course of three days at the end of March / beginning of April, the crew came and installed massive 9 ft support beams to my existing beams that were loosened. The proof is how the work stands the test of time. Meza did our front and backyards in 2019, both pavers and artificial grass through Purchase Greens. They laid out the design very nicely and even with all the rain through the years, and especially in 2023, the drainage works very well from the backyard to the front yard. The pavers still look beautiful, and the layout consistently gets compliments. I got quotes from about 6-7 different companies before going with Meza and while Meza wasn't the lowest, they also weren't the highest. From the moment Jesus came to our home to sit with my wife and I to go over our ideas, dreams, and needs, I knew we picked the best guy to do this for us. He listened, made suggestions, and itemized every single thing out for us so we knew exactly what each part of the process was going to cost. He started the work on time and not only was Jesus an amazing guy to deal with, his staff of several different guys were as well. Talk about skilled and professional artists who know their field like the back of their hand! These guys are sharp, their work is second to none, top notch, and of the highest quality. This is a long overdue review for Meza Landscaping. Slightly over two years ago Meza redid my front and backyard lawns, tore out concrete slabs on my side yard ,replaced with paving stone( see attached photo), replaced the wooden retaining wall with flagstone blocks and planted a couple of maples and shrubs and redid part of the irrigation system. Jesus told me they were booked for 3 months but that he would try to send his crew during the weekends whenever possible. Within a week, they were done!! His crew tried as much as they could to keep our property somewhat clean, given they had to removed 10" of dirt and bring in gravel. They were also careful with items I had and also cleaned after themselves by the end of the day. Believe me, even during demolition the house looked good. We hired Meza Landscaping to do a full remove and replace of our driveway and front landscape area. Work included installation of driveway and patio pavers, artificial lawn, and a seat wall enclosing the patio space. Their cost proposal was not the cheapest nor the most expensive, but we did think their proposal was fair. From the beginning, Jesus was responsive and offered suggestions on layout and material selection. I sent emails at first but found that I was able to communicate more effectively with Jesus thru texts. Any questions and issues that I communicated to Jesus was responded in a timely manner. He was very accommodating with my requests and concerns. His crew was friendly, accommodating and respectful. Quality of work was good. We hired Meza back in Sept 2018 because they were recommended by our landscape designer (you can see some of his work posted by Meza). The overall quality of the work was mediocre. And I'm okay with that because Meza was the more affordable option. But there were a few things that annoyed me: 1) They left a big hole along the bottom fence of the corner of the yard. This is mainly because the ground level of the adjacent properties were different. They initially assured me they had a plan to patch the fence so that it would be seamless. Their plan turned out to be nailing two planks of wood to along the bottom of the fence. The planks stuck out an inch from the fence. It looked terrible. For $30k, it felt unacceptable. 2) Initially laid pavers in the wrong direction. We caught it on our backyard video camera while at work and had to call the project manager to correct it. 3) By far the biggest Meza mess up was the electrical. They installed an outlet that wasn't properly weather protected and would fault whenever it rained. They came back to fix it 3 months later. It worked well throughout the dry season, but then faulted again when it started to rain. I've contacted Jesus via text message, but have yet to hear back. I also contacted the guy who did the landscape design for us and recommended Meza; he told me he stopped working with Meza because "it was the same old thing every time." I guess he also got fed up with Meza. Would only recommend if doing very simple back yard landscaping. Don't work with them in you're planning to do any electrical work in the yard. read more

I am going through hell with Jesus Meza right now. Planning to file a complaint with contractor board and sue him and his business in court. Not sure why my experience is so much different than most reviews. I trust these reviews to be authentic and hired him despite all red flags. A project which supposed to finish in 3 weeks, is now in 3rd month and still much to do. I heard lies after lies and excuses after excuses. He demanded advance payment otherwise he would stop the job which turn out to be illegal to demand advance payment. There is so much more to share but I sure no one finds it even possible that a contractor turn out to be such a piece of fraud with 4.5 star rating on yelp! I will share more detail in Nextdoor.com in my neighborhood in south bay. None of my checks bounced! I placed none payment since it was illegal to charge before work is completed. the work you signed to complete is still incomplete and you walked away in the middle of project that supposed to finish in 3 weeks according to contract. You shamelessly lied in my face about placing an order for my pavers on 9/13/2021. You never placed any order. on 9/15 you showed up and asked for a check for pavers since you have placed the order. you cashed my check on 9/20/2021 and placed an order for pavers on 10/8/2021. The pavers were delivered on 10/15/2021. Kevin at the Garden Supply and Landscape in San Carlos told me that if an order is placed the pavers will be here within 4 days but you only obtain only a quote. You got a quote on 9/22/2021, I have a copy of it. I have all these documents from both location, San Jose and San Carlos. What you did was illegal as stated in your contract in order to gain time. The pavers are done only partially and very unprofessionally with a tone of problems that need to be fixed. It took 4 weeks to finish part of pavers and still a tone of mess in my back yard from cements around borders you refused to clean up. You make every excuse and did not show up to finish my project with various excuses all documented in text exchange with you. Started with my child have surgery, my guys are sick, my foreman is on vacation. my ankle is hurt and cannot come to work. Your broken Bob cat was in my back yard for 4 weeks and materials were lying in front my house for 3 months. Every single item I stated in this review is fully documented with text message exchanges, cashed checks, communication with your workers and your supplier of pavers.
