Authentic Mexican food, fresh salsa, al pastor (pork) was perfectly marinaded-so tasty and bursting flavor and the way it's cooked, singed edges, just perfect! The chicken quesadilla was juicy and got a thumbs up from my daughter. She also got fried avocados- perfectly battered enhancing the taste of the avocado. Served on a bed of lettuce with pico de Gallo at the center. Great presentation. My husband got the Veracrus tacos a signature dish- shrimp were juicy and plump, cooked just right. Absolutely LOVE this place. Authentic Mexican food. It was delicious. Had the Steak Street Tacos. Fabulous.! Tasty and cooked to perfection. We decided to order the Avocado fries. I was stunned at how delicious they were. The Avacado just melts in your mouth. My sister, a Vegan, had vegetable Fajitas. She loved them. Our server, Jorge, Was extremely attentive. Visiting from out of town last night. We selected this opportunity solely off the reviews. It was excellent and our server was great! We also told him how we selected the place. He was surprised. On our way out we told him it was a 5 star review. Food was excellent- not your typical Mexican restaurant. Personalized menus and will make goods to order. This is a 5 on food, 4 on service so a 4.5 overall. This is really good authentic mexican food! Get the "make your own guacamole" for sure! They will make it how you want it, the ingredients are fresh and it's soooo good! I had the chicken and beef enchiladas verde and they were outstanding! My wife had the Swiss enchiladas (not sure why they named them that but there were awesome)! We had a side of refried beans where were fresh, creamy and such a compliment to the dishes....the chips and homemade salsa was also fresh and really good flavor. Yeah! Somewhere different than Casa! Recently my wife and I have been enjoying coming to this Mexican restaurant up the road from us. Growing up in the west end, we only frequented Casa Grande. We've obvi been missing out on these other gems! As far as Mexican dishses go, I'm pretty tame and usually opt for the same thing across the board - a grilled chicken burrito with a rice and beans and guac salad on the side. This one NAILS it everytime! The Mexico burrito is SO GOOD. And its HUGE. I usually never am able to finish it. My wife gets 3 beef soft tacos and they're always delicious as well. We've ordered some Margs here as well! OMG! win. Service and atmosphere is pretty much the same as most other places. I liked that the waitress grabbed the chips & salsa on the way to seating us at our table. We were starving so that was a plus! Immediately after being seated we were given our menus & asked of our drink orders. We ordered the Beef Nachos, Combo platter of Chicken Enchilada, burrito & tamale, and the Camarones a la Crema. For me, this is the best Mexican restaurant. Best appetiser is avocado fries. They come with a white dipping sauce that was just a bit spicy. They have the best plain old taco, American style, with a delicate crispy corn tortilla and ground beef. You can order them for 199 pieces A la carte. read more

This Mexico Restaurant, in Ashland, VA, gets 5 stars for blowing the doors off my low expectations for a Shopping mall located, small chain Mexican Restaurant, un-creatively named, "Mexico Restaurant." It was not great, inexpensive Tex-Mex food, but it was, against all odds, okay! The time was late. We were traveling. We were hungry. Somewhere in the glaring light of a newly constructed shopping mall, was a sign that read, "Mexico Restaurant," and it translated in my head to be an ungrammatically correct, generic, "Mexican Restaurant." A Mexican restaurant, named Mexico Restaurant, in mall, in rural, Virginia; I thought this place was going to be terrible, but, give me some booze, give me some chips, give me some salsa, and I would find a way to be happy. OMG, was I wrong. The chips were good, and not overly salted. The salsa was okay, not great. The fajita was real flank steak, and perfectly seasoned. The onions and peppers were, ehh, kinda flavorless. The salsa fresca, or pico de gallo, was also somewhat flavorless, but I think it is because they probably use USFood to supply their fruits and Veg. What can you do with ingredients like that other than use more salt? And to their credit, they did not over season. Try the avocado fries! Oh, and go to their website and get their coupon, you can just show it to them on your phone. Hey, 5 bucks is 5 bucks, and that is always deer to me! Nits to pick: the house white wine tasted like ass, the bar was very limited, the service was fair to poor, and everything had a faint flavor of stucco, and paint. I suspect the stucco and paint smell/flavor will go away in time. If you are a Mexican Food snob like me, do not be put off by, "Mexico Restaurant," in Ashland, Virginia. Overall food was great but service ... the male short Spanish server misunderstood many things about our orders so they were wrong and some overcharged things due to him misunderstanding my English, so he was a bit argumentative about it a few times of me explaining which was rude and unprofessional but I still gave him a decent tip and probably won't come back. Saw sign on I-95 and glad I did. 5pm on Thursday evening, only a handful of patrons, but those who try should become regulars as classic Tex-Mex is very good. I always judge the quality of the salsa and here it is very fresh and homemade. It is not as hot as I like but good variety of Mexican hot sauces on the table are easily added to spice it up. Dishes made with the shredded chicken were excellent as were ground beef classics. The deluxe nachos were over-the-top and only eight dollars, and almost a meal for two people. Their beer & margaritas are quite cheap during happy hour from 3 to 7. Today was my second visit. Had the Swiss Enchilada. Not sure why it is named that way, it's got to be about the best Chicken Enchilada I have had in years. We travel a lot and every Mexican restaurant makes them a little different. This was amazing. They didn't use "junk chicken meat". The only time we ever have gotten such quality chicken meat in our enchiladas has been homemade! We also had the avocado fries. I have never had those before. You could make a meal of them. The waiter was polite and attentive, kept our table from getting crowded with empty dishes. We will be in the area for a few more months so definitely looking forward to some more trips here before we head back to TX. read more

This past weekend, I stopped in again with my husband and son and the server remembered us! He was so nice and made sure we had absolutely everything we needed. I ordered beef enchiladas and they were so yummy! I needed a little extra kick so I told our server. He brought me a salsa he said was hotter and homemade. It was perfect! I dipped my chips in it, sprinkled it on my enchiladas and rice, and when I couldn't quite finish my meal, I doused my plate in it before I boxed it up. This is my son's favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is delicious and on point. The food comes out quickly even when they are busy. The staff is great. I have only had an issue with one person who used to work phones and as a hostess. She would at times get the order wrong for take out, I believe due to translation issues, and then get visibly frustrated at me. I haven't seen her in a while so she may have moved on. The other people who work there couldn't be nicer and always give good attention to ensure you have everything you need and you are enjoying your meal. read more

Wow. We stopped here by chance on our travels up and down I-95. We weren't expecting something so authentic, down to the FRESHLY MADE HUGE BOWL OF GUACAMOLE! They also have enchiladas bathed in molé poblano sauce. The prices are super reasonable as well, 2 people ate lunch and had freshly mashed glorious guacamole for $25. You MUST stop here on road trips. It's better than the corporate dining you might run into or the usual truck stop fast food joints.
