DELICIOUS Mexican food! My friend had suggested this to be our halfway point to catch up with each other. They did NOT disappoint! Plenty of parking around back, it may be tricky driving into the location but we met right at 5:30. My friend got there before me and got us on the waitlist. Luckily, it wasn't that crowded yet and were seated pretty quickly. We decided to start out on their house margarita...my stupid self went ahead and answered the server "the largest one you have!" They were NOT kidding - this cut was gigantic! I told my friend that we will be getting one to share between the both of us. I made it a personal goal to finish at least half of it before leaving... I decided on their chef's special, carne steak (it was all the meat lol: steak, chorizo, with rice and beans). OMG, it was amazing with so much left over! (Spoiler - it taste amazing cold too! haha). I don't remember the dessert that we got but it was seriously like a big pancake churro with a scoop of ice cream. The place is clean and our server was great! That was honestly the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The sauce on the enchilada was unlike any I've ever had. It was more of a rich sweet barbecue sauce than a typical brown sauce. Both the cheese and beef were thinly inside though the beef inside was good. My girlfriend could hardly eat the chicken fajita quesadia with its sogginess both inside and outside. This was a waste of a meal. I love Mexican food but this is not the place to go. There are fees for almost anything you get one refill on drink and 1.00 for another. I ordered simple dish taco and enchiladas, however the rice was overcooked with no flavor. The enchiladas was covered in sauce that looked like mole sauce not enchilada sauce. The taco wasn't bad , just not appetizing. The ambiance of the place give old Italian restaurant with flair and splash of Hispanic banners. Just go to Mi Jalisco food there is way better. Excellent food for out-of-towners like me. El Azteca Mexican Restaurant is just right across street from my hotel. I could had walked but my friend warned me about the busy traffic. Parking was plenty. We were here on a Sunday brunch hour. Menu is huge like everyone said. So, I started with the easy one. Combo 8 was mine. My friend had fajitas. I really enjoyed the Mexican ambiance. Tables were made with solid wood. Restaurant interior was clean. Wait staff was courteous. This was my families first time coming here, considering we were only in the area for kings dominion. We were craving some hispanic food and saw the reviews for this place and it is definitely worth the hype. Our hispanic restaurants back home aren't authentic but you can definitely tell at this place that they know a thing or two about what they're doing. I had the shrimp chimichanga, highly recommend if you're a shrimp lover. Their beans aren't the typical refried beans out of a can and the rice mixed together is definitely a chefs kiss. Our waiter was fast with refills, bringing our food out in under the 10 minutes after we ordered, and topped our drinks off before getting halfway empty. The establishment is definitely a cute place with character, and if you're passing through the virginia area then i would highly recommend this place. read more

Location: Centrally located and within walking distance from the Hampton Inn across the street. Found within the shopping center. Service: Very friendly and attentive service. The staff really works as a team. Food: My husband ordered the chori pollo, which was recommended and it was incredibly delicious! I ordered a beef taco salad which was also great! Unfortunately, I can't handle spicy food; luckily I spotted two jalapeños in the taco salad before I ate them. We also shared a giant horchata which was good but seemed a little watered down and the fried part of their fried ice cream was sadly soggy. Only been here once, we were in the area for a drive-through Christmas light show. What we had was great, big portions but not huge. My husband had a shrimp quesadilla and was very happy, I had some taquitos thing which was very good..maybe slightly greasy but hey its fried ‍ I most notable thing was how insanely fast our food came out! Our server had such a bad attitude towards us from the moment we walked in. He threw the menus on the table and left. We asked for 2 burritos without salsa on the outside and toasted tortillas. Which isn't a lot to ask for, but our server started to say no..no..no. We asked why not and he didn't give us a straight answer. After a 4 minute back and forth he said "fine" with a horrible tone. My work would go there on a regular basis, and then covid hit. We have tried going back several times, and the food keeps getting worse and worse. The staff is amazing, however, the food has much to be desired. I ordered the taco salad with chicken, and the chicken was so chewy, I had trouble even eating that. The lettuce appeared to be several days old, and they only give a small amount of cheese, guacamole and sour cream. I was only able to eat about 1/3 of my salad before I finally gave up on it. Once returning to work, myself and other coworkers who ate there either feel sick, or have gotten sick. I hate that it has gone downhill, but it no longer feels like they are making the food fresh. read more

Spent $70 on food that when we got it home was inedible. The chicken fingers were burnt to a crisp. The chicken and cheese nachos were loaded with all kinds of crap I can't eat because of stomach issues. They were specifically told that. ...twice. How is this food acceptable? I know times are tough and the curbside is hard but come on...seriously. Now they are $70 richer and I'm sitting here with no dinner. Clean interior with your typical Mexican restaurant style design and decor. The first thing that I noticed coming in, however, was the impeccable service. We were waited on immediately, right as we sat down. Free chips and salsa, both delicious, as well as white sauce, which a lot of places don't serve, so I was surprised and happy. We ordered soft drinks and were served them within literal seconds of ordering. Seriously, we didn't even wait a whole minute. Waiters were also quick to refill our chips and drinks while we waited for our entrees. Our waiter made us some recommendations and was very friendly. The food could have been a little higher quality, which is why El Azteca gets 4 stars instead of 5. After eating we paid at the front. About 15 minutes south of Kings Dominion, if you're craving Mexican after a day filled with rollercoasters and long lines, this place is the closest best bet. Authentic cuisine, decent atmosphere and pretty good margs. My servers were a wee bit shy of full personality, but were quick on refills and such. I ordered carnitas. They were a bit dry, somewhat devoid of spice. The flavorful rice and beans sort of stepped up to the plate. Not bad. A little more hospitality would have peaked the meter. My bestie and I go to El Azteca once a week every week and it's great every single time!! I personally believe their white sauce is superior. The service is always so good and my besties son has become really good friends with one of the waiters! We come so often that as soon as we sit down they automatically ask "two margaritas señoritas?" LOL!! We just went last night and I tried to Mole Blance for the first time (my bestie gets it every time) and it's absolutely delicious!! She usually subs chicken for steak and shrimp and they COVER it with cheese sauce. It's soooo good I feel like everyone should try it at least once in their life. Prices are also very good. Right now they have it decorated for Christmas with a big tree in the front lobby and flashing Christmas lights on the ceiling. It looks so cute!! Ubiquitous little strip mall Mexican joint, don't expect gourmet. The service is fast and usually pretty friendly. Prices are good. Personally I'm not a fan of the white sauce and their guac isn't my favorite, but it's still good. I usually get take-out at least once a week and have tried a bunch of different things on the menu.
