Came back to at Mexican Bar and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. Food is consistently good and service is great. Alexis, my server was very attentive and was spot on with her service.

Review for taco Tuesday. The restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking and ample patio seating. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening. The hostess was also our waitress and seemed to be the only server in the dining room and patio area. She was very friendly but also very busy, so service was a bit slow. I really liked the tortillas. Good chew and not too thick. The carne asada taco was very good. The shrimps in the shrimp taco were small. The beer battered fish was ok, the batter was too dense and hard. I prefer a thin and crisp batter. Overall food and service was satisfactory but not outstanding.

We gave this place a try for dinner..... I found them on IG so I added them to our places to try list. Nice little spot. Great customer service. They really helped us narrow down our orders..... Food was very yummy. The margarita was not my fave. Very similar to a watermelon Jolly Rancher but unfortunately there was an artificial aftertaste. I couldn't drink it..... The hubby landed on that grenade though..... The waitress gave suggestions of what else to try if we were to visit again. Great vibes overall. They have a restaurant side and a bar side. What we ordered: * Mexican Cheese Dip (white queso sauce) * 4 Flautas (chicken) * Fajitas x2 - Chicken & Shrimp - Carne Asada & Shrimp * Watermelon Margarita * Buenaveza

Had such a great experience here! The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very generous for the price. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and clearly made fresh. The chips and salsa were a standout -- the chips came out warm and perfectly crispy, and their salsa isn't the typical red kind but it's incredibly flavorful and not too spicy, which made it really easy to keep going back for more. Service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. The space is also large and comfortable with plenty of parking, which makes it an easy spot to come back to. They also offer happy hour every day from 2-5:30pm, which is a great bonus. Definitely planning to make this my go-to spot!

Stopped in here for a quick bite while running errands and the bartender whipped me up a spicy margarita which hit the spot and instantly made my day. We split the chicken burrito and im glad we did, it was a generous portion of really tender meat and fresh ingredients. I don't normally get burritos from restaurants (only taco shops), but this was solid, fresh, and I didn't feel weighted down with grease or too much filler (rice & beans). I wish the salsa was hotter, but it still added a nice boost in flavor!

Decided to come by for taco Tuesday to give it a try. First glance was nice, a separate bar area, outdoor seating with patio space and a large parking lot. We were met quickly by the hostess and shown to a table with no wait. Looking around, it was a little dated but clean. The server was also acting as the hostess which caused her to be very busy and diverted her attention quite a bit. But she did amazing at managing everything to the best she could. Unfortunately the tacos were not very good. The corn tortilla was soft and fresh but the tacos in particular lacked flavor. My favorite was the carne asada and recommend that but the rest were lacking flavor and my least favorite was the fish taco. Some of the tacos could have used more protein and were heavy on onions. The food did take quite a while to come out despite it not being too busy at the time we placed the order. We also had to ask for the check due to the server doing too many tasks. Overall not a terrible experience but likely wouldn't recommend it.

There is a new place in Poway called Mexican Bar. We love Mexican food so it was a win for my whole family to give it a try The chips and salsa were great. They had a nice kick. My Margarita almost kicked me out of the restaurant, so I had to order one less spicy. It was delicious. My food was exceptional and I believe I also ordered a birria taco....but ate it without even taking one photo. I do apologize for that. When that happens it means the food is really good!

Wide selection of options for all. My wife and I shared the sizzling Fajitas. We also got the Flautas and white queso dip for happy hour. I got a Buenveza Lager and my wife tried the Watermelon Margarita she didn't like the puree they used. Service was great she was very helpful and efficient. There are two sides a bar side and the restaurant side. I recommend the bar side. Definitely want to come back and try there tacos.

Great variety of menu from combinations of burritos, tacos, tostada. Husband got the Carne Asada and shrimp tacos, which were seasoned well and delicious, I got the soup which was a combination of tortilla soup. My comment is too much cheese was way too much cheese. Our daughter got the tostadas with chicken piled, high and delicious, daughter got the Childs, quesadilla and rice, she enjoyed. Service was excellent as our server came back a few times to check on us and our plates and how we like their meals so great service. My only comment is cut the cheese on the soup. It was way too much it's just too disgusting. Ambience is very casual. They have inside and outdoor dining inside is very quiet and you can have a nice conversation with your family.

What can I say, this is our new favorite local Mexican restaurant. Everything I've had here is really good. Chicken fajitas, carnitas burrito, Poway cali burrito... all good. Their meats are lean and trimmed nicely which is a plus. The appetizers are also delicious. My favorites are the shrimp ceviche and the carnitas sopas. They have a bar side with plenty of tv's to watch sports. In addition they have the normal restaurant side and a good size patio which is dog friendly. Service is outstanding!

Came in on a Monday and what better day to have a Margarita right!?! Love the hometown and modernized vibe this establishment has! We were very promptly greeted and were told we had the option to sit anywhere we wanted to. They've got a patio with wonderful & functioning heat lamps, bar and high table tops seating, and a separate dining with air conditioning and there you'll find cozy booths and regular dining tables. The lights were dim with the ambiance of candle lights on each table. The music was kept at a very nice level so that you can actually have a conversation if you wanted. Our son came along and it was kinda making him sleepy or maybe he was already a bit tired beforehand...he said. So he got soda instead of a cocktail. Aiden was our very nice server and he attended to everything we needed! My first margarita was the pineapple jalapeño with a resposado tequila (you actually can choose if you'd like) and it was amazing (tho it does come with a lot of ice) and my second choice I got a strawberry with Casamigo mezcal (the ice was blended for that one) Also Delicioso! When I try a new place I usually have a tradition of trying a particular dish and for a Mexican restaurant it's the Chile Rellenos and Enchiladas combos. I opted for no extra protein to it for more vegetarian style meal. The dish was great. I liked the mildness of the salsa verde. I also asked for Pico De gallo for an additional side for the chips and salsa. Perfect for this gringa who can't do too spicy at times. And it balanced out the fact that I was having a spicy-esque drink. My husband and son really liked their order here as well. We then shared the individual sized flan. It was nice and smooth in texture and had just enough sweetness to finish off our evening here! We're already thinking of coming back for their infamous tacos!

Had a chance to have lunch here this week. When I got there, there was a group sitting out on the patio but no one else. I was greeted immediately and asked if I wanted bar side or restaurant side? I wasn't exactly sure what that meant as there didn't appear to be bar stool anywhere. So I chose restaurant which I assumed was indoor. As I scanned the menu they had a lot of items that looked enticing but my rule is always get the carne asada burrito at a Mexican spot, cause if they can't get that right there's no hope. My one gripe was that the carne asada burrito did not come with rice and beans, it was an extra charge. I mean at a taco shop I understand. But when you're a sit down Mexican place a carne asada burrito plate should come with rice and beans. Chips and salsa were free, which was nice as a lot of places are charging for them now. The carne asada burrito was a little on the small side for the price I'd expect a little more and of my own fault I didn't read the carne asada burrito description and it came with cheese. Despite the cheese it was a good burrito, a little pricey for the size.

Came here for taco Tuesday (3 tacos, rice and beans for $20) and a $6, .394 pale ale Great, quick service, tasty food and pleasant experience.

Ate there this evening and was disappointed. I had a chili relleno and cheese enchilada. Both were good but nothing to write home about. The rice was terrible. It was dry and lacked any kind of flavor despite the amount of spice on it. After several bites, I left it in my plate. The beans were ok but not very creamy. Chips and salsa ordinary. The bill came to $45.00 with tip. As we left the restaurant, I knew we wouldn't be back. Sadly, Taco Bell would have been a better choice and $35 cheaper. Inside the restaurant was dark and lacked any sort of decor. It wasn't warm and inviting. Only 4 tables were filled. My prediction: with the increase in prices due to tariffs, this place will be gone in a year. It just isn't good value for the money. Restaurant owners need to wake up and realize that just because tariffs have increased prices, it doesn't mean that people don't want good value for their money. If I'm going to spend half of a hundred dollar bill, I don't want to spend it on a mediocre place, I'll stay home, Service was good. read more

My family had a wonderful time today, Easter, and the food was delicious as always. Our server, Giselle, was so nice and attentive. However, when paying the bill with the PDQ card reader, I mistakenly tapped the thumbs down button for service. Apparently there's no way to reverse it. Giselle did a terrific job and I certainly want her to get credit for her efforts. read more

I love the vibe of the newly renovated Mexican Bar. The Baja fish tacos are legit. Such a great place to watch a Padre game with friends. Love supporting the mom and pop's. You can get a taco anywhere, but you can't enjoy chillin with the homies quite like the Mexican Bar. This might be a new spot in the rotation to spend quality time with the old school. read more

It was our very first time trying this new restaurant. Such a warm and welcoming classy place! We sat in the bar area which had a nice vibe. Enjoyed some delicious Cadillac margarita's and chips & salsa that were to die for. We both ordered combination plates that were simply delicious! The staff was very friendly and attentive, they didn't miss a beat... We met both owners, their great people that care and take pride it what they do. We only wish them success and many years of prosperity. If this was the last Mexican restaurant on earth, I'd be happier than a lark! lol. Can't wait to go back! This was my second time here. First time had fish burrito with rice and beans. Fish burrito was tasty as well as the rice; it was fluffy. The beans not so much. not much flavor and they were very dried out. Tried their margaritas, schooner size, 2 of them and they tasted like lime juice. Heard they are premade, maybe have the sour mix ready and then add the tequila separately. Not good. First time was a week after they opened. This time just went for drinks, and their beer menu has no prices. I shouldn't have to ask how much your drinks are. We didn't eat dinner there, but had chips and salsa. Chips tasted like grease. Made you sick feeling and their salsa needs flavor and salt. I was hoping to really like this place, but i guess I was expecting too much. read more

Service - excellent. Our server was beyond amazing. Margaritas - meh, ordered Cadillac, but couldn't taste any grand marnier or other orange liqueur. Chips - excellent, so fresh and crispy Salsa - very good Al Pastor Tacos - super disappointing. So dry and gross Beer batter shrimp tacos - better than al pastor, but overall just about average. The only thing i would enjoy again is chips and salsa, so sadly we wont be back since drinks and food were disappointing. Especially their al pastor meat - the chef should be embarrassed to ever plate it. read more

We recently moved to Poway and We have been looking for a good Mexican food restaurant and we have found it! The food is good, the drinks are good and the waitresses are awesome! The owner was walking around talking to diners and that speaks volume. The decor is minimal which I like, it's not overpowering. The portions are quite small for the price but they pack a flavorful punch! We will definitely be back! read more

I have been coming to Mexi-Cocina for over 40 years. This has been staple for Poway residents with loyal patrons, like myself, who have come for the mostly unchanged menu for decades. This was the go to spot for authentic old school tacos, enchiladas, and other favorites. Always served with great service in a family friendly atmosphere. Even with ownership changes, they understood what worked and stayed loyal to their core customer base. The new restaurant is a bar first with what can only be described as "bar food". The menu is limited and that would be fine if it was good but it is not. Stop by for a (overpriced) drink and then drive through one of the taquerias down the street on the way home. read more

The place is great and offers a great menu. The only issue I have had is the food is not served hot consistently. I was with a group the other night and one guest said her chili relleno was not hot to the center, cheese not hot, melted at all. Another guest said her fish tacos seemed to be just warmed up but fish was not hot. this seems to be a consistent issue. The cook must learn to cook the food through. No matter how quick you get the food to the table, it is most important that the food and hot in the inside. I would love to see this place to succeed. read more

First visit, wife and I stopped in for an early dinner. The decor is pleasant, simple and not gaudy. Our server, Jackie was promptly at the table and took our drink orders. Meanwhile, Jose "the helper" came with warm chips and mild salsa. Shortly, drinks arrived and Jackie answered any questions and took our food order. Jackie is outgoing and pleasant with a vibrant personality. Our meals arrived and were hot and plentiful. I had the three taco plate, while my wife had the carne asada quesadilla with guacamole. I peeled the bun off in attempt to eat the meat inside. The bacon was so hard and overcooked. The waiter came to ask how the food was and my boyfriend said it was gross but we were hungry so he ate half and asked if half the price of his sandwich could be removed. A couple minutes later, a woman came over to ask what was wrong. He said the food was not good and she responded aggressively "oh but you ate it" and pointed at my food. I looked at her and said "what, I'm eating my food" and she got very angry. She then stormed off while yelling across the restaurant at us. She stated I looked at her funny. My boyfriend asked if she was the manager and she replied "does it matter?" and continued to argue across the restaurant making a scene. The lady in the booth in front of us turned to say she was in fact the owner. My boyfriend said "I offered to pay for half of it" she then replied "I'm comping it so you guys can leave." Super crazy aggressive energy from the start. This was our first and last time, what a joke.

It's located in the corner next to T-Mobile in the Poway Plaza on Poway Rd in Poway. There's an open parking lot with ample stalls for customers in the plaza. There was live music when we arrived at around 5pm and apparently really good happy hour of the light bites (peep at menu)! It was BOGO free appetizers from 3-7pm from Sun-Thurs and 3-6pm from Fri-Sat - CRAZY! I've never been to somewhere with that option during peak dinner hours! My boyfriend and I ordered their Surf & Turf Quesadilla and their Crab Cake. The quesadilla was quite good. There wasn't much shrimp but a lot of carne asada which was very tender. There was also a cheese pull! The pico de gallo that came with the quesadilla really impressed my boyfriend that he asked for extra. It was really good LOL nice kick to it as well. The crab cake was not the best at all. The initial bute with the sauce and coleslaw was good! But the following bites were meh. There didn't seem to be any good crab... and the flavor was really meh. We didn't expect the crab cake to have a sauce, so we ended up eating that first and then took half our quesadilla home as it was a lot of food. My boyfriend and I ordered two rounds of Stella Artois, and I thought the beers both times weren't that great. The two rounds didn't have the nice malt sweetness. I did not like the drink at all unfortunately. Overall, that BOGO free appetizer and live music really sold us. The prices of the appetizers were also very good. We'd probably get another drink and appetizer if we're ever here again. Thankfully the appetizer/light bites list was extensive and had a lot to choose from!

The space was clean and inviting, and we were seated quickly after we arrived. Since it's also a bar, it was definitely on the louder side. She answered all of our questions and gave us recommendations by sharing her personal favorites, the restaurant's top sellers, and describing how each dish tasted. She was very knowledgeable and thorough with the menu, which made ordering easy. It did take a little while for our food to come out, but once it arrived, I ordered the Wagyu Beef Sliders, and my friend had the Short Rib Mac & Cheese. The sliders were just okay for me. The beef was cooked more on the well-done side than I would have preferred, and the toasted bun was a little too hard. The sliders tasted a bit dry, so I found myself adding ketchup to almost every bite. On the other hand, my friend really enjoyed the Short Rib Mac & Cheese. They said it was super cheesy, gooey, and melted in your mouth. The short rib added a rich, savory flavor, and the crispy onions gave the dish a nice little crunch that balanced out the creamy texture. Even though my meal didn't quite hit the mark, I'd definitely come back to try other menu items. Jane's service was great, and based on my friend's meal, it seems like there's plenty more on the menu worth exploring.

OMG - new favorite Mexican restaurant. We drove over from Escondido for lunch and dang, LOVE IT. Forgot to take pictures as it was so good and we just dived right in. Our server was Aidan and he was so nice and helpful and his recommendations were spot on. I had the taco trio with Birria and carne asada and my husband got Posole (choice of meat). Sooooooo delicious we ate every bite. The chips were warm, fresh and crispy and the salsa is perfect. We will so be coming back. He said Friday and Saturday nights are crazy busy but they take open table reservations. They also have a bar which we will try sitting at next time. Love finding local gems as we avoid chain restaurants and this one is the best! There is also outdoor seating for when it warms up (they have heat lamps, yay) and the atmosphere is warm and inviting, just the way we like it! read more

First and foremost, these people really nailed the food! I ordered the enchiladas with shrimp in it and even though I was hesitant to try their house-made enchilada sauce, it ended up being excellent. My friend got their Caesar salad w/ shrimp which she said was really good too. I think they also improved the beans since the last time I was here, in fact I didn't even remember what they tasted like before. Today I will remember them as a definite wow factor! Drinks were perfect I had a spicy margarita and the place was nice and clean. Will be back! read more

The French fries didn't taste that good to me either and I felt as if I'd be better going across the lot to McDonalds and ordering a few fries to add in there. Roberto's Taco Shop is a Mexican food restaurant chain started in 1964 and I believe I've dined at one of their shops when I was growing up in the South Bay, so eating here is nostalgic to me. I decided to visit this particular Roberto's because I read that a segment of society was trying to cancel this iconic chain due to its founder supporting our current President. I decided to support Roberto's for dinner last week where my wife and I got to grub on their delicious rolled tacos and I received friendly customer service from the young lady behind the counter. Roberto's Taco Shop has several locations around San Diego with the one I visited residing in Rancho Bernardo. The restaurant is located on Bernardo Center Drive specifically within the Big 5 and CVS shopping center. It's across from IHOP and a short walk to Sapphire Indian Cuisine restaurant. Roberto's is in between Big 5, Code Ninjas, and a few steps away from the UPS Store. This shopping center has plenty of free parking. There is covered outdoor seating and plenty of seating inside with high table top stool seating, low table top and chair seating, and wooden bench seating. There really isn't much decor inside the restaurant with it's yellow painted walls, a single television, and a framed Welcome To Roberto's Taco Shop art piece. The young lady behind the counter who took my order was friendly and had a positive attitude. My family's go to Mexican food spot is Yesenia's and I seriously have not found a San Diego Mexican fast food joint that has supplanted it. This was the first time in many years that I got to eat at Roberto's and I don't remember what I thought of their food way back when, so it felt like a first time experience. My wife craved fish tacos, so we ordered their #12 Two Fish Tacos combination plate, which comes with rice and beans. I ordered Carne Asada chips, which comes with cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa fresca, and queso. For our final item, I ordered their 3 rolled beef tacos with guacamole and cheese, but I added sour cream for an additional charge. My wife and I each had a fish taco, which were fresh, had plenty of toppings, and it was a good entree. I ate the Mexican rice and beans and thought both were cooked really well and were made to order. Their carne asada chips were covered with a lot of ingredients and had plenty of meat, but they were just okay. The star of our meal were their rolled tacos. The rolled tacos were packed with flavorful beef, they were hearty, they were fried perfectly, and they were covered with creamy sour cream, fresh guac, and had an ample amount of melted shredded cheese. We thought their rolled tacos were better than Yesenia's version. I took a star because they don't give complimentary tortilla chips and they don't have a serve yourself salsa bar. My wife and I have found a rival Mexican fast food restaurant that serves delicious and quality Mexican food. I don't think Roberto's Taco Shop can get cancelled if they continue to serve tasty rolled tacos that beats our favorite Mexican food spot.
