Had a wonderful experience and great meal yesterday. The food was expertly prepared and came out immediately. Nice and hot and lots of flavor. The flautas were light and crispy, nachos were tasty, and the Baja fish tacos were also crunchy and delicious. The chips to start were not greasy and the salsa had plenty of spice. The service by Jackie was fast and efficient and even though she was flying solo she always made time to check in on us. We are definitely coming back. Next time we'll try something new. I hate to give a relatively new restaurant a bad review. I get the trouble. So I'll be pretty neutral. Service was fine if a little slow. Was semi busy when we arrived but dissipated quickly before order. Servers were courteous. We were hoping the food improved from former management and I think it did, Possibly, but the price to quality and quantity was way out of whack.. Carne burrito was not warmed, precooked beans and rice commodity would have been 4$ additional to 15$ burrito base. 7" long after they cut it... like was that to add a .5"? Or to fancy it up? Kids meal bean and cheese burrito was literally the size of my big toe but for 9$ came with beans and rice. we actually looked at each other and laughed. Kid is 5 and we got him a slice of pepperoni after.. no joke. If you don't eat much, want to pay more, feel free. read more

Great vibes and margaritas. They're still renovating the right side of the restaurant so only the left Bar side was open. There were 3 round bar tables near the entrance so we snagged 1. During the 2 hrs we were there all the seats got filled but there was a lot of turnover so never a wait longer than a few minutes for a seat. A new hire was being trained as a server and she was a natural: friendly, attentive and clearly a quick learner. The jalapeño margaritas were delicious. Chips and salsa was mild but had good flavor. Surf n Turf plate came with well seasoned and tender carne asada and pretty big shrimp. The rice was a little undercooked and refried beans were ok. Had dinner here tonight and it was great. Had tacos and chili rellenos. The chili rellenos were AWESOME. You can instantly tell they were freshly made. Found out they make them daily. The owner stopped by to say hello and is very nice. Bartender was very engaging even though we were not sitting at the bar. The waiter was great and personable. Was a frequent customer back when this place was mexicocina ... was in the area and wanted to see if it was worth trying again ( several owners later). Dined in the bar area.. a little noisy and crowded ( loud people and acoustics probably not the best). The food was fantastic.. a bit pricey but portions were decent. Was waited on by Josh who was very attentive and a really nice guy. Older gentlemen Bartender behind the bar was a tad unfriendly and gave off a surly vibe. Seemed to try to hustle us out by clearing plates prematurely and trying to possibly poach the tip from our server by trying to close our tab out when we weren't asking for the check and still had our drinks more than half full. Let me start by saying I REALLY wanted to like this place. I guess I can give them a pass on the "hostess" Station with the fact that they are new. But it took us a while to be seated despite it not being very busy. I will say; the chips and salsa were great. Good late heat on the salsa. Our server was not good. Very slow and no active listening. Had to repeat things multiple times. I got the southeast bowl. It wasn't good. No seasoning on the protein. My wife got shrimp tacos. Also not good. Shrimp was kind of mushy and not seasoned. My 10 year old asked for a plain quesadilla. The server opted not to give him the kids menu quesadilla but the regular menu quesadilla at twice the price. So, I stopped by with my family for dinner largely based on the 4.3 Yelp review. We were a bit shocked. The worst Mexican food I've been exposed to in a long time. The refried beans were even inedible, dry, over salted, and some indescribable seasoning we couldn't identify. The chili relleno was fairly good. the beef taco was also inedible, again over salted, a large portion of ground beef, barely any lettuce or cheese and no tomato. We ordered a "to go" order for my aging father, an enchilada plate. The family was sitting around talking while he ate, he suddenly disappeared and we found him outside burying his dinner in the garden. We asked why, and his response was simply, "It tasted like s***." It was very expensive and the worst. After a long day out, the water was very good. That's all I can say about the food. Mexican food seems like a heated topic for a lot of folks here... I've heard mixed reviews of this place and honestly, I loved it. Always appreciate a nice sit down Mexican restaurant with great tacos (I think the food is excellent!) and margaritas. Had some service issues but they're new so I think they're working some things out. We purchased the trio taco plate and carne asada burrito. Both came with rice and beans. The entrees were delish, however the Beans lacked flavor and rice was undercooked (crunchy) and lacked flavor too. Unfortunately both B&R were cold, so we didn't eat much of those two items. Chips and salsa were great. Cadillac margarita was on the sweet side. Ordered a few limes and it helped cut the sweetness. Service was excellent! All servers who came to our table were sweet and expedient. Ambiance was good. Little loud but didn't bother us. Will most likely return after they get a little more settled in. read more

We have eaten at the Mexican Bar a handful of times. We prefer to sit in the bar. It has a pretty relaxed vibe, lots of sports on the TV's. The margaritas are outstanding. The food is great quality, not over priced, and has large portions. The reason for this review, is the Pozole. It is fantastic!! Now, I'm not the kind of guy that goes to a Mexican restaurant to order soup. But my wife did, and let me try it. Wow! It is delicious, with just the right amount of kick. My wife ordered it with chicken. When we go back, and we will be going back, I can't wait to try it with carnitas. It may be a new menu item, because I don't see it listed on the pictures of menus posted on this site. If you go, do yourself a favor and get this soup! We had our first meal here. Sat in the bar. Had great customer service beers were $2 off. We order the trio tacos with rice & beans. My husband tried 3 different ones so we could taste most of what they had for tacos. We had shrimp, carnitas, carne asada , chicken, el pastor and grilled fish. They were all good , lots of flavor. Figured I'd give it a chance & I'm glad I did. Margaritas were great. They have a lavender martini which I also recommend. I had the Baja fish tacos which did not disappoint. Dined at Mexican Bar midday today. Four family members, 2 from Poway and 2 from Bakersfield. We all had different choices from the menu: Chili Relleno, Cheese Enchilada, Trio Taco Combo Plate, Fish Taco and a Shrimp Taco. We all agreed that the food was delicious, with a very unique flavoring , served hot and in a timely manner. I think we all took some home, as there was more than enough on our plates. We were served in a courteous and competent manner. Warm chips and salsa were plentiful, throughout our visit. The decor is clean and simple with nice eye appeal. While we sat in the bar area (with lots of tv's), we didn't have any mixed drinks. The bar does appear very well stocked, including quite a few beers on tap. I wanted to like this place based on the recommendations from Moms of Poway. We were so excited to try it this beautiful Sunday afternoon. The margarita tastes like syrup and it's gross. I ordered this exact same margarita at Casa de Pico in La Mesa a couple weeks ago and it was yummy!!! This place is not good for drinks. The waiter looks miserable like he doesn't like his job or waiting on people. Not even breaking a smile once. I also asked for a spicier salsa, which he stated several people have asked for lately, and the one they brought was disgusting. Not good for a Mexican restaurant. The spicier one you ask for at Miguel's Cocina is SO YUMMY! This place is so small inside and not good service. Try the T&T tacos on Scripps Ranch instead. read more

Great location, parking, large menu, delicious food and drinks. The staff goes beyond to make your experience ten stars. Last month I hosted a party of seven for lunch to try out the new restaurant gave them 10 Stars. Also last Tuesday I hosted 20 ladies on the patio, service was excellent, food delicious and came out fast. I am sticking with their Margaritas however their Spritzer's are also delicious. My husband and I have been enjoying eating in the beautiful bar area same menu as restaurant he is very happy with the beer selection. Take out is nicely packaged and quick. My favorite is the grilled fish and chicken tacos. The portions are large and fresh. Family friendly. read more

Wanted so much to like this. But it was a dank, depressing atmosphere, practically deserted when we went there (around 8 on a Wednesday). Really enjoyed the taco trio plate made! The tortillas were homemade, meat was flavorful and salsas were fresh. I chose the adobada, carnitas and carne asada. It came with rice and beans and the whole thing cost about $20. We had a party of twelve (half kids) and our bill was only $215! Will be going there again. read more
