Came back to at Mexican Bar and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. Food is consistently good and service is great. Alexis, my server was very attentive and was spot on with her service.
Review for taco Tuesday. The restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking and ample patio seating. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening. The hostess was also our waitress and seemed to be the only server in the dining room and patio area. She was very friendly but also very busy, so service was a bit slow. I really liked the tortillas. Good chew and not too thick. The carne asada taco was very good. The shrimps in the shrimp taco were small. The beer battered fish was ok, the batter was too dense and hard. I prefer a thin and crisp batter. Overall food and service was satisfactory but not outstanding.
We gave this place a try for dinner..... I found them on IG so I added them to our places to try list. Nice little spot. Great customer service. They really helped us narrow down our orders..... Food was very yummy. The margarita was not my fave. Very similar to a watermelon Jolly Rancher but unfortunately there was an artificial aftertaste. I couldn't drink it..... The hubby landed on that grenade though..... The waitress gave suggestions of what else to try if we were to visit again. Great vibes overall. They have a restaurant side and a bar side. What we ordered: * Mexican Cheese Dip (white queso sauce) * 4 Flautas (chicken) * Fajitas x2 - Chicken & Shrimp - Carne Asada & Shrimp * Watermelon Margarita * Buenaveza
Had such a great experience here! The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very generous for the price. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and clearly made fresh. The chips and salsa were a standout -- the chips came out warm and perfectly crispy, and their salsa isn't the typical red kind but it's incredibly flavorful and not too spicy, which made it really easy to keep going back for more. Service was excellent and the staff were very attentive. The space is also large and comfortable with plenty of parking, which makes it an easy spot to come back to. They also offer happy hour every day from 2-5:30pm, which is a great bonus. Definitely planning to make this my go-to spot!
Stopped in here for a quick bite while running errands and the bartender whipped me up a spicy margarita which hit the spot and instantly made my day. We split the chicken burrito and im glad we did, it was a generous portion of really tender meat and fresh ingredients. I don't normally get burritos from restaurants (only taco shops), but this was solid, fresh, and I didn't feel weighted down with grease or too much filler (rice & beans). I wish the salsa was hotter, but it still added a nice boost in flavor!
Decided to come by for taco Tuesday to give it a try. First glance was nice, a separate bar area, outdoor seating with patio space and a large parking lot. We were met quickly by the hostess and shown to a table with no wait. Looking around, it was a little dated but clean. The server was also acting as the hostess which caused her to be very busy and diverted her attention quite a bit. But she did amazing at managing everything to the best she could. Unfortunately the tacos were not very good. The corn tortilla was soft and fresh but the tacos in particular lacked flavor. My favorite was the carne asada and recommend that but the rest were lacking flavor and my least favorite was the fish taco. Some of the tacos could have used more protein and were heavy on onions. The food did take quite a while to come out despite it not being too busy at the time we placed the order. We also had to ask for the check due to the server doing too many tasks. Overall not a terrible experience but likely wouldn't recommend it.
Wide selection of options for all. My wife and I shared the sizzling Fajitas. We also got the Flautas and white queso dip for happy hour. I got a Buenveza Lager and my wife tried the Watermelon Margarita she didn't like the puree they used. Service was great she was very helpful and efficient. There are two sides a bar side and the restaurant side. I recommend the bar side. Definitely want to come back and try there tacos.
There is a new place in Poway called Mexican Bar. We love Mexican food so it was a win for my whole family to give it a try The chips and salsa were great. They had a nice kick. My Margarita almost kicked me out of the restaurant, so I had to order one less spicy. It was delicious. My food was exceptional and I believe I also ordered a birria taco....but ate it without even taking one photo. I do apologize for that. When that happens it means the food is really good!
Great variety of menu from combinations of burritos, tacos, tostada. Husband got the Carne Asada and shrimp tacos, which were seasoned well and delicious, I got the soup which was a combination of tortilla soup. My comment is too much cheese was way too much cheese. Our daughter got the tostadas with chicken piled, high and delicious, daughter got the Childs, quesadilla and rice, she enjoyed. Service was excellent as our server came back a few times to check on us and our plates and how we like their meals so great service. My only comment is cut the cheese on the soup. It was way too much it's just too disgusting. Ambience is very casual. They have inside and outdoor dining inside is very quiet and you can have a nice conversation with your family.
What can I say, this is our new favorite local Mexican restaurant. Everything I've had here is really good. Chicken fajitas, carnitas burrito, Poway cali burrito... all good. Their meats are lean and trimmed nicely which is a plus. The appetizers are also delicious. My favorites are the shrimp ceviche and the carnitas sopas. They have a bar side with plenty of tv's to watch sports. In addition they have the normal restaurant side and a good size patio which is dog friendly. Service is outstanding!
Came in on a Monday and what better day to have a Margarita right!?! Love the hometown and modernized vibe this establishment has! We were very promptly greeted and were told we had the option to sit anywhere we wanted to. They've got a patio with wonderful & functioning heat lamps, bar and high table tops seating, and a separate dining with air conditioning and there you'll find cozy booths and regular dining tables. The lights were dim with the ambiance of candle lights on each table. The music was kept at a very nice level so that you can actually have a conversation if you wanted. Our son came along and it was kinda making him sleepy or maybe he was already a bit tired beforehand...he said. So he got soda instead of a cocktail. Aiden was our very nice server and he attended to everything we needed! My first margarita was the pineapple jalapeño with a resposado tequila (you actually can choose if you'd like) and it was amazing (tho it does come with a lot of ice) and my second choice I got a strawberry with Casamigo mezcal (the ice was blended for that one) Also Delicioso! When I try a new place I usually have a tradition of trying a particular dish and for a Mexican restaurant it's the Chile Rellenos and Enchiladas combos. I opted for no extra protein to it for more vegetarian style meal. The dish was great. I liked the mildness of the salsa verde. I also asked for Pico De gallo for an additional side for the chips and salsa. Perfect for this gringa who can't do too spicy at times. And it balanced out the fact that I was having a spicy-esque drink. My husband and son really liked their order here as well. We then shared the individual sized flan. It was nice and smooth in texture and had just enough sweetness to finish off our evening here! We're already thinking of coming back for their infamous tacos!
Had a chance to have lunch here this week. When I got there, there was a group sitting out on the patio but no one else. I was greeted immediately and asked if I wanted bar side or restaurant side? I wasn't exactly sure what that meant as there didn't appear to be bar stool anywhere. So I chose restaurant which I assumed was indoor. As I scanned the menu they had a lot of items that looked enticing but my rule is always get the carne asada burrito at a Mexican spot, cause if they can't get that right there's no hope. My one gripe was that the carne asada burrito did not come with rice and beans, it was an extra charge. I mean at a taco shop I understand. But when you're a sit down Mexican place a carne asada burrito plate should come with rice and beans. Chips and salsa were free, which was nice as a lot of places are charging for them now. The carne asada burrito was a little on the small side for the price I'd expect a little more and of my own fault I didn't read the carne asada burrito description and it came with cheese. Despite the cheese it was a good burrito, a little pricey for the size.
Came here for taco Tuesday (3 tacos, rice and beans for $20) and a $6, .394 pale ale Great, quick service, tasty food and pleasant experience.
Tried this place for the first time and was pleased. The salsa reminded me of my beloved and sorely-missed Chevy's salsa so I was immediately a fan. The chips were warm and everything on my plate was delicious and fresh-tasting. I built my own 2-taco plate since came asada wasn't included but the price ended up the same anyway. My new fav Mexi restaurant! We were frequent visitors of the old establishment, but the new owners have brought a fresh new vision. The decor is welcoming and upscale, the bar (featuring the friendly and expert bartender Amy!) had plenty of comfie seating and flat-screens. The Sangria and traditional Marg were refreshing and the beer selection vast! Oh yeah - the food? In a word, excellente! We had the flautas which were fantastic and tacos w/ their home-made corn tortillas - über fresh! In sum, give this new place a try and it won't disappoint - it's all dialed in for success and your enjoyment. read more

This place is a neighborhood gem!!! Hostess was very nice, sat us right away. Our server, Aiden, was awesome! Such a great guy, very attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of! The food and drinks were delicious! We had the barria tacos, fried fish tacos, and the chicken fajitas. Aiden suggested those dishes and definitely they were a huge hit! Came here for the first time today for Lunch. The restaurant is bright, clean and has TVs around to watch your favorite sports team. Our server Josh was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was extremely flavorful and tasty, I highly recommend. I will definitely be back. read more

The breakfast service is very fast and efficient. The breakfast is absolutely amazing and the cost is out of this world. Fresh and light tortilla chips. Fresh, balanced salsa. Sweet, caring and friendly staff. The food was delicious where you could taste that they char the chilis for the dishes and salsa. The charm of one of Poway's oldest gems is gone. The atmosphere from the get go was underwhelming. White walls everywhere made the space seem cold and uninviting. The kitchen had their music playing so loud that you could hear it from the dining room which also had different music playing. The chips came hot, but the salsa was water. For someone that can't handle spice, the salsa had zero kick (which I was told later by the owner that their salsa is currently a 6/10 on the spice scale... perhaps 0.6/10 would have been more accurate). The enchilada sauce was the biggest disappointment. It tasted like pasta sauce. The tomato flavor was overwhelming. The chicken inside was definitely not all white meat as I'm used to in the past coming to this location. The beans were completely emulsified and it felt like eating baby food. The carnitas flavor was lacking, however the green salsa provided was very tasty! I gave a second star on the green salsa alone. Our waitress was kind and patient and passed along our grievances to the owner who eventually approached our table. He put the blame on his kitchen staff, telling us he'd just fired his chef yesterday and brought in a new crew. This will be a one and done for me. Food is at the caliber of something you could find at a fast food restaurant and expensive. $17 for this plate of food, no thank you. Nothing about this place is authentic Mexican food and it's a pity to see how gutted this place has become. Forgot to mention how defensive the owner seemed when he approached our table but his response to mine and any negative reviews say it all. Best of luck. read more

This was my second time eating at Mexican Bar and all I can say is WOW! The burrito I had was sooooooo good! I had the surf and turf with green sauce and everything about it was excellent, the flavors were awesome. The beans and rice were on point and the chips and salsa superb. If you are looking for your go to Mexican restaurant, this is it!!!! Great new Mexican restaurant with great food and service! Started off with a margarita on the rocks and my friends had the manhattan made with tequila (I forget the name of it). Very good drinks, margarita not too sweet. Warm chips and a delicious salsa with just a bit of a kick was served with the drinks. I ordered the chili relleno and enchilada combo. It came with a cheese enchilada, but I requested to substitute a carnitas enchilada. The combo included beans and rice. The relleno was a pablano chili filled with cheese, definitely fresh and made by scratch, just delicious! It had a bit of a kick so if you're sensitive to spice, you might want to be careful with this one. The carnitas enchilada was on a fresh homemade delicious corn tortilla, stuffed with carnitas. The carnitas was slightly dry, but not anything to really complain about. I also enjoyed the beans and especially the rice that came with it. My friends ordered the surf and turf burrito that was filled with shrimp, carne asada, rice, coleslaw, pico de gallo and chipotle crema. One ordered a side of rice, the other had it ala carte. I'm not really complaining, but if you wanted to include rice and beans, it cost an extra $5 or $6 dollars total for both. You can get one or the other for an extra $2 or $3. In a way it's a good idea so that rice and beans aren't wasted. Anyway, the burritos were stuffed full. My friends enjoyed them. Really don't have anything bad to say. Parking is easy, it's clean and you can sit outside or inside. Looking forward to eating there again! read more

Excellent food and service in a lovely setting. We ordered the fish burrito and veggie burrito (wet, with green sauce), and drinks. Our food was excellent! We received complimentary chips and salsa, and we have to say their salsa is some of the best. We brought our dog with us, and sat on the patio which was lovely on a sunny day. Highly recommend this place and we will be back! read more

I lived in Poway for over 20 years and was excited to try out this new place! I visited with a friend during opening weekend to just check it and just get some appetizer and a drink. We ended up ordering tacos, burrito and plenty of margaritas! Everything was so delicious and the services was amazing! Everyone was so nice and made sure we were taken care of. I can't wait to go back and try their lavander martini! Big shout out to our server- Josh, he really took amazing care of us! It's like visiting a close friend! Highly recommend fish tacos! read more

Mexican Bar is an asset to Poway! We don't have many Mexican restaurants left and this is a treasure of a place. The meat is tender and spiced just right. The portions are plentiful. The beans and rice will remind you of authentic Mexican. Plus the ambience is great and the service is wonderful! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I've been twice now and anticipate returning again and again..and again haha. Great new addition to Poway! I hope they stay! read more
