It's about 15 miles from Cedar Creek Lake & actually closer to Purtis Creek Lake State Park. So, if a Yelper is looking for it under The "Phalba Store" name, here's my updated review for it. Hubby & I headed out to see a good friend's new house & we were looking forward to grabbing a delicious Cheeseburger & Crinkle Fries at The Phalba Store. Man, this has to be one of the BEST Cheeseburgers I've ever eaten! I'm a sucker for Crinkle Fries, too. The store is so clean and welcoming. It's decorated with red booths and chairs, antique farming equipment & tools , old fishing rods & lures, old Barlow & Case Pocket Knives with Old Gunsmoke TV Shows playing on the Huge Flat Screen. There's also an old 70's Pin Ball Machine in the corner. I like it! The store carries minimal groceries, Bread, Mustard, Mayo., Pickles, Chips, Cookies, Candy, Paper Towels, TP, Cleaning Supplies, Cold Drinks, Ice, Tylenol, Advil...etc. It's all fresh and the store only carries @ 5-10 loaves Bread, packages of Cookies, & Bags of Chips, at a time. That way the food stays fresh. The Phalba Store also sells Local Seasonal Vegetables......cantaloupe, watermelon, tomatoes, squash, purple hull peas, blackeyed peas, etc., all very reasonably priced. The Shinning Star to me is their Cheeseburger & Crinkle Fries! I hope The Phalba Store will continue to stay open for many years to come. It's a great little Stop if you're ever out that way. The young man (Michael) who bagged groceries, reached into the cart of the lady before me, removed her purse and told her he was taking her cart for her. Reaching and touching her purse was unacceptable. He should have asked, not told her. He attempted the same with me, but I stopped him, staying I needed to push it out rather than carry my groceries in my hands. Gave the truthful reason (in addition to my comments above) that I have arthritis and carrying bags is painful.

Fried pickles were good and then we got 2 out of 3 of our salads. 1 salad had bugs in it and we never got our third. 20 mins later we got 2 of our kids meals and were told my sons order for rotisserie chicken wasn't available. Server came out addressed the salad and was going to tell her manager. Server came back and explained it was a gnat and their bug zapper wasn't working well(no manager yet...and very odd answer!). It had been over an hour since we were seated and had only 2 salads and 2 kids meals and we decided we were done. (We also noticed black specks in the salt shaker that was not pepper!) Manager came out looking bothered and said "I want to hear what the issue is"...we explained and she was very defensive and said they would remake the salads and the food was ready to come out. We explained it had been over an hour and the restaurant was pretty empty and we were unhappy. She was still acting bothered and telling us they had already made the food and didn't offer anything to make it right until we brought up the salad and said "well I can refund two salads if you want". After noting it was a birthday on the reservation and having family there who had previously also had a bad experience, it is safe to say we will not be back again. Place looks very nice but management needs to learn how to handle unhappy customers and the ridiculous 1 hour wait with no food (or food with bugs!) much better.

Well if you get the time, you should stop and check them out. The Brazos Valley Cheese store is located at the Homestead Craft Village. It's a cute little place with all kinds of shops and BBQ. The cheese shop has lots of cheese samples and meats for making a charcuterie board. There are also crackers, fresh baguettes and more. The ladies at the cheese shop were very helpful and had all kinds of insights into the cheeses.
