I am a student and I really really like this place - a lot! Everyone inside is kind and welcoming, I usually order online & during lunch time. It's usually not too busy and calm inside when I visit. It's enjoyable I wish to sit down sometime inside. When I arrive my food is always packaged nicely and ready to go for me. I feel comfortable going here and the food is really good! My go to is the yellow curry with some spice to it. When I'm sick (or in great health) I always turn to this meal. It's well worth the visit. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered broccoli beef and Bangkok noodles. The food was good, not exceptional, but perfect for a night when you don't want to cook. We saw quite a number of customers coming to pick up takeout. The broth of the Bangkok noodles was a bit tangy/sour, which isn't totally my jam, but it wasn't bad. As appetizers we got the Crab Cheese and Fried Spring Rolls. For main dishes, we got the Panang Curry with shrimp and white rice on the side and the Drunken Noodles with Chicken. As long as we learned which dishes are our favorite, we stick with them.. Bangkok noodles is mine and Padthai, crab cream cheese are his things. I got hooked up into this Bangkok noodles bowl this year. I came back 4 times within 3 months I used to love their three flavors fish dish and scallops dish too, but there are no longer on the menu. Restaurant is small space but very well decorated, clean and neat. Not too loud on the weekend while we visited.(We got lucky, I think ). Service is just exceptional. The person who says is owner is VERY rude. I usually pay with cash on tip and forgot my wallet ONE time. I came back today and they are making me order my food, get my own things and I asked for a water. I was wondering why is he doing that to me while other people on the table are getting their stuff served. His answer? "Because they tip." I was baffled when I heard that come out of his mouth. 1) A tip is NOT required. I forgot my wallet ONE time and now he says I won't be served like any customer because the ONE time I did not tip? Our server was amazing, I just wish the food was more tasty. My friend and I ordered the panang curry with rice, pad see ew, and pad thai. There was something interesting about the flavor of the pad thai. It did not taste like how pad thai normally tastes, and I've been to so many thai restaurants. The pad see ew was on the saltier side, and didn't have that sweetness that pad see ew typically has. The panang curry was okay, but had an interesting after taste that I think was from the coconut milk. The thai tea also had the weird after taste and got it with the coconut milk. SADLY, THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME: Pros: Friendly staff. Clean venue. Diverse menu. Fresh. Great flavors. Cons: 1. Their to-go menu clearly states that "above dishes served with steamed rice. Brown rice $1 extra." ...Well, when you order almost $100 worth of food they now ask you to pay $1 for rice (or any kind). That's a super small rice by the way. 2. When I came to grab my food, there were (2) very tiny containers of white rice. I mentioned that I paid for (4) orders of rice. They tried to say that the super tiny containers were actually x2 "large." -Maybe large for toddler portions, was my thought. I paid for that extra rice when I shouldn't have, because it says it's supposed to be included (see photo). I did NOT get brown rice, so why the extra fee? Thai food is really mainly designed to be eaten over rice, so it should be included (like their menu states). That's really false advertising. 3. They ask you if you want to leave a tip when you call-in your order. Trust me, I'm a huge proponent of leaving people epic tips when the service is great...and I do this often. But it's super awkward to be asked on the phone. It puts people on the spot and sort of makes them feel obligated. 4. Small portions for relatively high prices. I've always enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but I feel that they are now nickel and dining me and you pay so much for each item + extra rice as well. I sadly won't be going back. After a weekend of Glamping at El Capitan,we found Meun Fan. A little worried at first thinking it might be a westernized version of Thai food. It turns out my worries were unnecessary. There was no wait time.Service was fast for hungry tourists like us. The crab cheese(Rangoon) was crispy and fluffy. Not oily. The curry noodle was slightly Smokey, savory and chewy sweet . The combination fried rice was a bit sticky.air could do with more shrimp and less chicken though. The fried fish was a surprise. Lightly battered but crispy. The fish was perfectly seasoned and the sweet chili sauce did not overpower the fish. It was so good, we ate the whole thing. It was a perfect lunch. Time to head home. read more

The only bit lacking was the quantity of Drunken Noodles (good for 1 person) and then we had to wait for the waiter to order another white rice and for the check - perhaps due to the fact that only one person was serving all customers and he probably thought we had placed our order fully at the start - a little inconvenient but didn't mind it at all and recommend you to try out this place. Recently moved up from Ventura and we tried a few dishes, namely: drunken noodle, curry fried rice, and spicy eggplant. We ordered in the restaurant to-go and overall the service was polite, quick, and the restaurant itself was very clean, neat, and minimal. The food came out within the quoted time. The prices weren't bad but the portions were slightly smaller than we are used to and that night the dishes were made very oily. The noodle wasn't as flavorful as I'm used to, the fried rice was good but dry, and the egg plants was perfectly tender but just covered in oil and lacking in basil or spice. Overall, average experience perhaps we'll try again and catch them on a less oily night. read more

I'm always so surprised that this place has such low reviews because it is my go to place for Thai food in SB! I'm pretty particular with Asian food and I've tried a few other Thai places in SB and they don't match up to the food at Meun Fan. My usual order is the Pad See Ew with beef, always a favorite, and the Pad Thai, which is also fire, but today I got the Kai Kua which is definitely part of my top 3! Other than noodles, I've gotten the Yellow Curry which is perfectly sweet and mildly coconutty. I tried the Fried Tofu today which was crispy on the outside, but super moist on the inside. My family loves Meun Fan Thai Cafe and it's our go to our in Goleta. Our regular orders are the spicy drunken noodles, chicken pad Thai, pineapple fried rice with shrimp, red curry with white rice, and the Thai iced tea tea or Thai coffee. We order here at least once a month. It's a consistent food experience and "fairly priced" (caveat is "fairly priced" is a laughable concept when discussing food prices to non California residents.
