Food was ok. Staff were friendly. Located in the same plaza as Target and a few other retail shops. It wasn't super busy but there were a few customers.

Bún vermicelli bowl with bean sprouts, when I specifically asked for NO bean sprouts.

Saigon Noodle House; Goleta, CA Ordered: Special Combination Pho Bún (Vermicelli) Chicken fried rice Review: As soon as you step into the doors, there is a sign that says to take a menu from the basket & take a seat wherever you want. I appreciate being able to choose our own seats, but the menus are printed on regular paper & tri-folded. Most menus have gotten wet & are wrinkly and/or stained. That should have been the first red flag... Special Combination Pho- The pho was very underwhelming. The broth came out dark, which indicates that they leave the pho spice bag way too long in the pot before taking it out. The broth tasted heavily of spices, particularly cinnamon, which overpowered the beef flavor of the broth (you couldn't taste the beef flavoring at all). They only give you a small pinch of bean sprout, 1 basil stem, & 2 thin slices of jalapeños. The size regular ($15) is really small compared to other places, so I recommend just getting the large ($16) for $1 extra if you truly wanted to give the pho a chance. Rating: 2/10. Bún (Vermicelli)- The bowl first came out visually appetizing. I poured the chili sauce that came with the bún into the bowl & as I was mixing the sauce into the bún, I noticed the oil from the meat that was under all the veggies. After incorporating the sauce into the bún, the whole bowl became oily & there was no flavor to the bowl whatsoever. I also specifically asked the server for no bean sprout & they served us the bowl with bean sprout. There was no attention to detail at all. Additionally, the sauce bowl was cracked from top to bottom (picture attached), so sauce was spilling all over the table. Rating: 2/10. Chicken fried rice- The fried rice came at a good portion size with enough pieces of chicken in it. The only thing I would say they could do better is with the seasoning- the fried rice was on the saltier side. Although they do serve it with a side of their pho broth with 4 pieces of small, cubed tofu in it, the broth is overpowered by the strong cinnamon flavoring & it does not pair well with the salty fried rice. Rating: 4/10. Overall, I would not return to Saigon Noodle House. The food is below average, the staff's attention to customer's requests go unnoticed, & it left a bad taste in our mouth (no pun intended).

Cheap food, but you get what you pay for. The menus are these really old pieces of paper which can't be that sanitary? Flavor was ok, felt that the meat was a bit over cooked. The vegetables in the vermicelli bowl also weren't very fresh.

Beef & Flak Pho (halfway eaten)

Yum! My cousin goes to UCSB & said this place was very delicious, so I had to give it a shot. The waitresses are attentive & helpful. The pho is delicious! This is by far the most delicious, richest, and authentic pho I've ever eaten! I got a large Beef & Flank & it was an actual large with loads of noodles & broth! The pricing is awesome for the quantity & quality of this pho! I can't wait until my cousin needs a ride again from SB & I'll just have to make a stop here! :)

Brisket Pho

Saigon Noodle House is my favorite place to get pho in the SB/Goleta area. The broth and meat is always delicious and noodles cooked perfectly. I'm really not sure why it doesn't get good reviews because I've always really liked it.

UPDATE: Soup guy now runs the whole kitchen. Soup quality still good…read more The University Center has many food offerings. Now they are offering the Soup Guy and his soups. M-F, he makes two soups every day. He tweets about them so we can all learn in advance what soups are being made. The large soup comes to less than five bucks and it is very filling and healthy. The UCSB soup guy is one of the great new things about UCSB. Follow is twitter and instagram accounts for updates on the soups of the day.

Great flavorful soups with different varieties every week. Favorite food on campus…read more -- Large soup is $4.50, smaller soup is $4.10; you can ask for samples. There are two soups available very day-- one vegan and one non-vegan option. I first tried some of his soup during a cooking demo hosted by the Food, Nutrition, and Basic Skills program. He had made chicken noodle and butternut squash then. Sooooooo good. I bought a large soup and tried the artichoke shrimp bisque (with Asiago cheese) and it was amazing (available in Romaine's Salad Bar and Coral Tree Café). Wish I had discovered the Soup Guy earlier. Hope to try all the soups on the menu eventually. -- I've now also tried the chili con carne, mac and cheese with ham, vegan pho, and split pea soups. Chili con carne is so good. I normally don't like peppers but it tastes great in the soup. Not bitter/spicy at all, almost sweet. Mac and cheese with ham is like slightly more soupy mac and cheese with lots of salty ham. Vegan pho tastes different from the pho you might get in a Vietnamese restaurant but it's really flavorful (with broccoli and tofu as interesting additions, I think it's a more Japanese broth flavor though). Split pea soups: they're good for split pea soups. I hate peas but somehow managed to eat most of a cup. Even the soup guy can't redeem peas for me.

Review #660 None Elite Squad…read more Classic! very Classic Look, it has what a Classic Hamburger Stand should look like .its...its ... Classic! The food was great! fresh, with Amazing Taste! the Salads hit the mark! I have no complaints with the food. Customer Service was a 10..from the cashier to the one who handed me my order. Parking was in the back..the look isn't the best, its a typical backyard parking..maybe its the surrounding ..maybe it needs new lighting ..but its ok. Regardless its 5 or more stars.

It is a true local institution and an absolute must-stop if you are in the area. The ambiance is classic--it has the exact look and feel a timeless hamburger stand should have, and I love that they haven't changed its original look in decades. While parking can get limited and tight depending on when you arrive, the service is quick and there is some limited outdoor seating available. The staff was okay; it took them a minute to come over and take my order, but the food came out fresh and hot in about 5 to 10 minutes. The food was great with amazing flavor, as always, though I'll admit the franchise locations I've tried down in LA are actually slightly tastier. Next time, I'll probably swap the regular Charburger with cheese for my go Teriyaki Charburger. I also had a very tasty Blue Shake (coconut and pienapple). Still, you can't beat the nostalgia and quality of the OG! Thanks for the memories and great food.
