Metrorock is a wonderful climbing gym to be a part of. The mission of the gym, staff, and metrorock community is inclusivity which means that anybody and everybody are welcome. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. The routes are set and reset on a frequent basis which makes going to the gym a fun experience every time. There is a wide range of route difficulties which allows for climbers of all levels to enjoy what metrorock has to offer. What resonates most about this climbing gym is it's identity. It prides itself on creating an environment that is both safe and welcoming to the LGBTQAI community as well as other disenfranchised groups of people. Great climbing. Staff is the best - No condescending and rude employee tribalism (Looking at you The Cliffs) . They do a better job than other gyms at keeping routes changing and challenging. Best climbing in the city hands down. read more

I became a member in February and have been beyond happy with what I've gotten for the price. The staff is friendly, as are the patrons of the gym. They offer top roping and bouldering, and continuously switch things up to keep you on your toes. The weight lifting gym and yoga room make the membership price more than worth it. I've gone from literally being afraid to climb V0s to taking on V3s in a matter of months, which is huge for me! read more

In NYC for work and while looking for a place to climb I came across MetroRock. My home gym is Sender One and MetroRock offers superior routes at various difficulty levels. The gym is very clean and the staff is friendly. I am very satisfied with the experience and will be back! read more

Visited here whilst on a trip from U.K. Been looking for are to it for some time and put aside a morning of our vacation for this. I really wish it had been worth that time but sadly not. The actual walls are great, really great facilities and the routes were challenging. However the customer service completely ruined it for us. Rude, dismissive and unhelpful; It was the most unwelcome I have felt anywhere and it completely marred the experience. If this can be sorted this is set to be an awesome wall but please don't let anyone else feel as terrible as we did when visiting. $30 for a climb is the highest I've paid and to be treated that way when paying anything, let alone that much is not really cool. read more

It's a bit in the middle of nowhere, however looks like the neighborhood is growing. 20 min bike ride from my place. The routes are great, nice facility, I love the floor setup! I would recommend this place if you live nearby, if not 2-3 day passes a month should suffice. read more

Metrorock is awesome! The route setters do a great job of keeping things fresh, and I can boulder and climb higher walls than just about any place in the city. But the staff is what keeps us coming back! I climb with my 8 year old son and we have make loads of friends there both members and staff. read more

Nice new gym, I've had a couple great sessions there. The tall walls in the back are the best feature and they'll get you real strong. I also appreciated the big clean bathroom. It's not the biggest gym in the world but this is New York. read more

Great setting, high walls, good community (and great music!). Just a heads up, grading is pretty stout compared to other places in NY -- which I'm personally a fan of -- but it may lead to a mildly bruised ego for a couple of sessions. My favorite gym in NYC. read more

I've been a member at MetroRock Boston for a long time so I was really excited to be able to check out the new Brooklyn location with my membership (good across the network!). As others have stated, the place is brand new so everything is sparkling clean and the holds are rough, which I personally prefer. The walls themselves are the signature colorful Walltopia and there's a great variety of boulders, top rope, and lead. Leading the Tree section is a definitely a test of endurance, which I know I could use more of, but it's also a lot of fun angles. Other than the actual climbing space, the staff, locker rooms, gym, slack line, and overall facilities are great. MetroRock has always been such a vibrant and inclusive community in Boston so I hope NYC figures out what a gem it is! read more

In my opinion MetroRock Brooklyn is one of the best rock climbing gyms in all of New York City. As the new kid on the block this summer around, a lot of the rock climbing community here in the city was wondering what this gym well-known in the Boston area would bring to a locale with a bunch of options already. They've really delivered something extraordinary. I think it's the best route-setting in New York, with routes that are incredibly creative, unpredictable, and demanding diverse movement styles all in a single span. The grading is deflated compared to other gyms, which is great cause it more accurately reflects outdoor grades. Overall, it seems like the difficulty is a little more pitched toward an established climber crowd rather than a total beginner crowd. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a good community gym :) read more

I was initially really excited about having a new gym in the area, but after bouldering here a few times I've come to the conclusion that the route setters really need to take into consideration that not everyone is a 6'4" double digit climber. The problems in the v7+ categories can be fun for experienced climbers, but most everything under that seems to be labeled for either extremely tall people or people who can climb 2-3 grade levels higher than the grade on the tag. I am, on average, a v8 boulderer at most gyms, maxing at v10. So, when I have difficulty on v4 climbs and some v5 problems are literally impossible due to height (or lack of footholds), something is wrong. I encourage Metrorock to think more about flow with setting problems and less about flashy dynos and double clutches with the most of the easier/moderate climbs in order to not discourage, nor injure, people who should be focusing on learning proper technique. The large, overhung section of the second island is possibly an exception, in their favor. Being that this gym is so close to home I really wanted to want to join with a membership, but for the cost I just haven't had enough fun here yet. read more

Unqualified" is the only word I can use to describe the staff of this place. I have been climbing for 30 years around the world and a silly little girl, that we still showed how we used the tube in the "Absurd" way in which she wanted us he wanted us to make sure top rope, [No manufacturer's manual says to use this mode] told us that we didn't pass the test and we could only use the few autobeleys . Leaving aside the the fact that I should have passed the test to climb from the first one which is what I normally do. I want to emphasize that she didn't bother to make a knot at the end of the rope, which I did, and she could make myself do the test of falling in an area where falling the first 3 meters it easily falls against an unprotected iron staircase. Obviously to do Boulder or lead there are better gyms in New York and with more prepared people on what is really important about safety read more
