I am thoroughly impressed with this place and the people there. Wow…read more Firstly let me say I have no personal experience or background in any form of martial arts. As a young inexperienced unrefined woman, I often find it challenging to loosen up in a gym situation like this, as most of my prior experiences felt formidable, intimidating and frankly terrifying for me lol. I passed by this place walking by and was immediately drawn to the open airy aesthetic. It's not a gym that's closed in. Or in a dark sweaty basement. It's clean, open, inviting and unpretentious. As is the staff. These guys make you feel incredibly comfortable. Quick to answer questions, offer advice, and guide you thoughtfully. I like the vibe here a lot. was surprised how quickly I picked up things and got comfortable. Plan on coming back... nice this is in the area.

I would definitely recommend this gym to all my friends and colleagues.

Although I've only been to a few classes, I could immediately tell the members were amazing - they took their training seriously but not each other and were all very friendly and welcoming (ie no jerks). Not all gyms can say that. Additionally, everyone is still wearing masks which I appreciate given the global pandemic and all. The gym is well maintained and even includes a squat rack and bench press along with adjustable dumbbells. I don't partake in the BJJ classes but the Muay Thai classes are top notch and they even have light yoga/stretching on classes Saturdays which Maggie leads and I look forward to their classes expanding as the city fully reopens. If you're in the area and even have an inkling of checking out Muay Thai or want a killer workout, you should definitely check out Kings Combat Willamsburg, you won't regret it. I signed up for a membership immediately after my free trail class.

All the coaches are knowledgeable, talented, and respectful - but I need to shout out a few wonderful humans in particular (the ones I've taken the most consistent classes with). Hannah - kettlebell MASTER. Makes classes fun, functional, approachable, and just the right amount of hard. I've seen my upper body strength improve greatly and learned a ton of cool moves with kettlebells I wouldn't ever have expected. Xtina - remarkably kind and encouraging. Creates a fun and challenging HIIT class that's never boring and is always a full body workout (plus fun playlists). Plus, the coaches for all athletic/strength training coordinate classes to rotate the focus each month so 1. You can see progress and 2. You have something new to look forward to each month. Bri - creates such a warm atmosphere with a focus on wellness and athleticism in creative ways. Has an eye for detail that makes the most basic of moves more challenging in the best way possible. Nhi - a Muay Thai powerhouse who coaches both coed and women/nonbinary classes. I appreciate Nhi's encouraging approach and ability to point out small improvements in technique that make a big difference. This gym and its people are awesome, and if you needed more reason: some of the coaches and more longtime members bring their pups to the gym. So yeah, it's great.

I started at Evolution in the Fall of 2013 with the intentions of joining the fight team. By the Summer of 2014, I had my first fight with Evolution and won unanimous. Prior to becoming a member at Evolution I had a strong background in Karate & Boxing. However, there were a lot of holes in my game that Brandon quickly fixed. He is excellent at translating information, correcting form, providing motivation, and creating a platform for individuals to grow. Not only did I win my first fight under Brandon, but by 2016 I achieved 5 championship belts and a Gold Medal for Team USA. From originally having an awkward style to becoming proficient in Muay Thai - I would say Evolution is an outstanding place to train. Whether you are training to fight, become fit, build confidence, or learn the techniques - YOU will get all of that accomplished here. The amount of work you invest in your training will reflect. I don't have anything negative to say about this gym, but a response to the reviews that are not 5 stars: 1. If it is your FIRST TIME visiting, arrive on time. 2. The gym is usually HOT when it's crowded. As a person who occasionally travels to Thailand for extensive training - I prefer training in warm facilities to prevent injuries and sweat out sodium. 3. Brandon is comical, but just like any trainer - he knows when to be serious. Training is already tough and can be intimidating to newcomers, so it's important to remember to have fun.
