2nd time visiting here in 9 mos. A cheap alternative to a busy Wisconsin Dells and plenty to keep kids busy for a couple days. The room and amenities were acceptable but they are quick to shut down rides on the mere possibility of rain. They don't assign workers to rides. You usually have to push a button for service. Whatever. Now for what I didnt like: I was double billed for the trip by metropolis and I dont think it was accidental. I gave my credit card at check in and when checking out, the guy said I hadn't paid yet. I should have questioned more at that point, but trusted them. I happened to check my online acct which I dont normally do and saw the double bill. I called the resort and they said there had been a system problem where some people were double billed. She transferred me to accounting and I got voice mail. I called back and asked the clerk to have someone call me asap. Noon the next day, no call. I called back, was put on hold, and then assured I'd be credited along with a meek apology. More of a woops, sorry. Never got a good explanation of how this happened. Which makes me wonder. If I didn't catch it, it would have been a bonus for someone there. Anyone visiting this resort, be careful. Check your bill. Dont double pay. read more

This is a great place to stay! Geared toward family, with lots of family activities and entertainment. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Service is excellent. My family and I had a great time! The resort includes a waterpark, large arcade, go-karts, mini-golf (outdoors), maze - so this is very much geared toward families and children. Highly recommend for a family vacation! read more

We stayed here for our out of town hockey tournament. It was great. Rooms were clean, nice, not cramped. Suites and bunk rooms were great, perfect for bigger families. The water park was fun (my kids love water parks) but they spent most of their time in the arcade. Lasertag, bumper cars, go-karts (the parents loved these, too!) The kids were not bored! The bonus was everything was reasonably priced. The staff everywhere was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast wasn't the best, but cereal works. The Pub was good pub food. We've been to the Dells, but this is 2 hours closer, so we'll go here instead. This hotel is good for families and their friends. read more

Our daughter's wedding and reception were held here. The staff was wonderful; they could not have been more helpful. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5 is because the facilities are very nice but not deluxe. We were watching the budget, and the Metropolis gave us a lovely experience within our means. We didn't really go to the waterpark on site or utilize the activity center, as we were in town for a wedding. The room itself was nice, a pretty standard hotel room amenity-wise. I agree with some of the other reviews that it has this big city, modern type feel with kind of a mod design and a color palate of gray/silvers/white/teal. It also had the very modern design where you have to insert your key card into a switch plate by the door in order to get the lights and air conditioning to work. I suppose this is where the green part of the hotel comes in as the lights and air (in theory) would only be on when you were occupying your room. As our room was at the very end of the second floor (closest to the waterpark area), it was kind of humid so my husband and I left one key in the switch plate while we attended the wedding reception to keep our room cool (side note: if you are attending a wedding/reception at The Florian Gardens it is a 60 foot walk to the hotel - you can not get any closer). The lobby area had a small bar, breakfast room, check in and small shop (stocked with towels and stuff for the water center as well as every day items). Overall, pretty decent place for not a lot of money (especially considering you receive waterpark passes with the price of your room), but didn't knock my socks off. read more

I was highly disappointed in this place. It's easy to find...just look for the pole barn with yellow water slides sticking out of it. I had my 2 1/2 year old son and my 7 year old nephew. The plan was just to spend the weekend at the "resort" swimming and playing at Action City. The price of staying was not bad...but you get what you pay for that's for sure. The pool is dank, dark, and above all rusty. I wanted to take pictures to post...cause it was really bad...to the point where sheets of paint were dangling to reveal rusted out metal. The pool had dots of rust showing through which definitely made the water look dirty and yellow. I went down one water slide and I really liked it...it was super fun...the best part was I was able to bring my 2 1/2 year old son with me. That was awesome. The first time I went down the waterslide...there was no lifeguard manning the tower...that's not good. Anyway, NOT HOT TUB. How can you have a place like that with no hot tub? The lazy river was even pretty lame...how can a lazy river be lame? It was small...it would have been cool if it went the other pool or something...but it just made a small loop around nothing. Also...it had water that came down on you at different points...it was fine in one area...but in another area it just dumped heaps of water down and it was very unpleasant. The women's locker room was GROSS...rusted out lockers, dirty floor...Yuck. Unorganized...not a pleasant place to just sit and watch people swim. Action City was pretty cool. The laser tag was good for young kids who don't have experience with laser tag...for example...perfect for my seven year old nephew. He loved it and did it again and again. For older people...kind of boring...small labyrinth. The go-carts were very, very boring. I don't know why...maybe cause it was just a small indoor track...my son went on once and didn't want to go again...which shocked me. Beware...they will sell you an "unlimited" pass...which is actually limited to only some of the video games. Pretty lame. I guess that we aren't much for video games...but the laser tag and bumper cars were a hit. We ate at the pizza place. Um, it was o.k., nothing too special. Overpriced for what you get...but the pizza wasn't bad. Just not awesome. So, now for the room. YUCK. As you walk in...it didn't look too bad...but I was struck by how stuffy it was. The smell was awful. I think they need to change the carpeting because it was the same smell as when you walk into a roller rink...stinky. It was also very, very stuffy and humid. We had to turn on the air conditioner to get the room to a comfortable temperature and to try to get some of the humidity out of the air...and it was 20 degrees outside. We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds. It had a fridge and a microwave and coffee pot...I think an iron too. Those were nice to have...also a small table for eating at. However...the room was very dirty on several levels. The bathroom floor had hair on it...a lot of dark hair...it wasn't like they just missed one strand....they clearly had not cleaned the floor. It also looked like the carpet in the room hadn't been vacuumed in some time. Dust was thick on the shelves of the kitchenette suggesting a long, long time since it had been cleaned. I wouldn't stay here again based solely on the cleanliness of the rooms...it was that bad. I didn't want to take my shoes off. It felt gross and pretty much was gross. I don't use the word gross that often...but it's the only word that comes to mind when thinking of this room. The room service menu is really disappointing. At 'resorts' you expect a bit more luxury...you'll get none of that here. The resort didn't even have a single dessert on the menu. One thing I love to do when I travel is order a late night dessert as a special treat. Not here. Also, didn't even try the breakfasts. Ate bananas and yogurt in the room. That was perfect. I feel like this place needs to make a huge effort to make some major revisions. Don't plan to stay for a weekend...maybe a day...It's very small. I was expecting something much bigger. Very disappointed I will not go back. read more

Great hotel for a FUN family reunion with kids! The kids loved the Gorilla that delivered a 30" pizza to our room, his silly antics and piggy back ride for one of our little boys halfway down the hallway! I was impressed with a few things in the Chaos Waterpark: the rubber flooring was easy on the feet and body if you slipped. The area was clean but the chlorine not overly strong smelling. There was plenty of seating available. Whomever built the resort really put a lot of thought into its design as every guest room was decorated different, a complex mural covered every inch of wall in the Waterpark and Action city had several different theme party rooms. I appreciated that we could use the Waterpark before the 3pm checkin. You definitely need 2 days to stay here and do it all!! We will be back again next year! read more

Water park experience was fine. Not much to be said about it. It is a very simple water park. The kids had an OK time. Hotel experience was poor. One of the 2 queen beds had utterly disgusting stains on the fitted sheet. It had clearly been laundered. But in our opinion, the permanent stains were way too gross. That sheet should have been discarded. One of the pillow cases had dried snot/booger on it. That pillow case could not possibly have been washed since last use (unless it was a house-keeping booger). Action City experience was dismal. This was our 2nd visit to Metropolis and it was mainly to go to Action City. The first attraction that our kids wanted to do was the climbing wall. We pressed the call button and someone came right away. Trouble is, that someone was downright rude. She made no effort to make the experience enjoyable. It was the opposite. She was short and dismissive in all conversation and used harsh tones in her directions with the kids. This was early in the day (before 10am), so if she was having a bad day, a bunch of guests were going to be exposed to it. This was supposed to be the highlight of our stay for the kids. As it was, neither of them felt comfortable enough to even finish 3 climbs. One left the area in tears and it took a good hour for her to move on from it. Throughout the day, we watched the climbing wall area until the mean girl left to go work at DQ. Once there was someone else, the kids had a blast climbing. If you take advantage of their periodic deals, this is simply the best value you can find for family entertainment. The rooms are clean and the décor is fun. Staff is extremely friendly. They took time out on multiple occasions to ask my kids if they were having fun and give high fives. A little over on check out was handled with grace and a smile. All that being said, the main attractions (Action City, and Chaos) are starting to show wear. Chaos has tons of concrete sculptures and lots of colorful paint to make it whimsical, but the sculptures are breaking (exposed metal rebar), and paint is chipping off into the water everywhere. Most of the flooring is excellent, soft, non-slippery, non-abrasive for no skinned knees if you do fall. However, they have a particularly slippery section of flooring by their tables where a different flooring material is used. They have a painted sign at this spot to notify you it's slippery rather than replacing the flooring. My kids slipped on this spot four times in two days. We saw over a dozen other people fall here. Someone is going to break a bone. Action city also has an air of neglect. About a dozen games were out of order when we visited. Only two bowling lanes weren't broken. Mini golf was in rough shape. A little TLC would really help turn this place around. Still, we'll be back, because for a family of seven, it's a fantastic deal. To those reviewers who say there is no hot-tub, if it seems weird that a place like this doesn't have a hot tub, maybe ask one of the staff. It's located behind a big concrete wave that shoots water into the lazy river. My assumption is that it was cleverly designed to be out of the way so that there are fewer kids. First thing that I was upset about was the 4:00 pm check in time, and it pretty much went downhill from there. We decided to order a meal from the resort restaurant "the pub" because we received a coupon with the room that said buy 2 entrees and receive a free appetizer( excluding the app sampler) which wasn't even on the menu. So we ordered a chicken sandwich and chicken strips for the entrees and the nacho appetizer. When the meal arrived to our room I was told that the coupon doesn't work for the nacho app. So I ended up having to pay for that. (Ordered without tomatoes, but arrived COVERED in finely chopped tomatoes) and was cold and clearly microwaved because the chips were soggy. We were excited for the action city because we had a 9 year old boy with us. After spending 130 dollars for 3 all day passes we realized the all day passes didn't include over half the games in the arcade. The passes work for non ticket games, which is about 10 games ( excluding the duplicates). The trampoline park was so packed he couldn't even enjoy it. I added 40 dollars to his card to play the ticket games and he was doing pretty good at winning tickets from games, which resulted in him being able to get 6 airheads(.15 cent candy). The water park was by far the best part of the resort, and you might as well use it, they charge you for it on top of your room regardless if you use it or not. Restaurant and bar review - my wife and I decided to go to the restaurant to watch the badger game. We sat at the bar which had 2 flat screen televisions. I asked the bartender if they had the badger game playing. She told me that they had a request to watch the Alabama game so that's what was going to play but if I wanted they could set me up in back to watch the badger game away from the bar. I thought to myself how disrespectful to your local patrons that support your business. I mean after all we are in Wisconsin right? We took a table in back and ordered two beers. They had a small but great assortment of craft beers. My wife ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and I ordered a fried chicken sandwich and cheese curds. The food was decent besides that the burger was over cooked and dry. I would recommend going here for a couple drinks but the food was not that great and they really ticked us of by playing the Alabama game on all the TV screens to satisfy one customer in a bar full of Wisconsin fans.
