Known in the valley beats metropolis bikes when it comes to price or class. I went a-hunting around the valley for a good place to repair my little sister's bike. Most places quoted a minimum of 100 to 140 bucks for a basic tuneup. Furthermore, there aren't many of them that seem like they actually enjoy being in business. One place I called got snotty with me after I asked to bring my bike in for an evaluation stating "we would have to look at the bike before giving a quote"...... so obviously not having listened. I got attitude. Another place also demanding to see the bike before giving me anything resembling a quote, made a huge production about looking the bike over and turning the wheels and twisting the gears and oh man this is gonna be so much work and that's just gonna drive the price up... only to simply shrug and turn their back on me to walk away when I was extending my hand for a handshake to close our salutation. I will not be going back to that place. They clearly don't care about maintaining good relationship relationships. Another shop quoted me a graduated price, depending on how many gears or motors the bike had. But Metropolis The star that is metropolis! It's right around $40 for a tuneup. It doesn't matter how many speed your bicycle has. Ulysses took one look at my bike and didn't make a big production of it, but still informed me the bike wasn't worth saving. He made recommendations for the bike that was worth saving, any fulfilled his promise by the next day before the quoted time ,and he called me to let me know my bike was done rather than have me chase him down the way most auto shops require. When I returned, he addressed another issue. he had noticed something wrong with my bike rack, but even though I didn't mention anything or notice it worried at him the whole night and felt compelled to fix it as soon as he saw me to keep me and the community safe. The shop is well lit and clean. The customer service forthright and no nonsense. And the love that fills the place is represented in the burning man rugs that cover the floor. The enthusiasm for bicycles and bicycling can't help but seep from the owner. This is a shop that is in business because they love bikes. These people work here because they want people to learn to love bikes, the way they do. There's a small selection of bikes for whatever you're looking for from kids bikes to motorized bikes, you're guaranteed to find a good price, accurate information, and a little love for cycling when you walk in the door. Don't be fooled by going to some of those other bike shops. They are not worth the price let alone the experience. Make your way over to metropolis bikes instead you won't regret it. read more

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT coming to this shop. I'm much closer to a bike shop in Burbank but I read quite a few 5-Star reviews and decided to go out of my way to come to what I thought was a reputable, professional bike shop. A couple of weeks ago, I brought in my beach cruiser, which was sitting in the garage for three years, to get their "tune-up" for which they charge $40 bucks. I thought that was fair for a professional bike shop to inspect it, lubricate what's necessary, make any recommendations, and confirm it would be safe to ride. After sitting for three years, both tires were deflated when I brought it in although I had no clue if the tires or inner tubes were roadworthy. That was part of the reason I brought it into the shop. They called me a day later and said, "it's all done... you can pick it up" -and I did that afternoon. While picking it up I noticed two things: 1) they had wiped the frame down from some of the thick dust after sitting in the garage and 2) I noticed they inflated the tires. That's it. I also noticed all the other dust in the corners and on the wheels too as it looked as if it was wiped down haphazardly. I wasn't expecting them to wash my bike so no huge disappointment there although it looked worse after the wipe-down. But I didn't notice any fresh grease on the chain and I had no clue what they actually did as part of the "tune-up" nor did they say, "we looked at x, y, and z, and we inspected this, tightened that, and adjusted this" -nothing. They said nothing except, "your total is $40 dollars" and I paid it and left. I went home and put my bike in the garage and didn't ride it until Saturday, which was three days after I picked it up. I rode up the block and immediately heard this mild rubbing, with each rotation. I looked down at the back wheel while cruising at low speed and saw that the back wheel wasn't aligned but off to one side where it was rubbing the frame slightly. Obviously, that was upsetting considering I just invested $40 bucks for a tune-up. However, I let it slide. I quickly rode it home, grabbed a wrench, loosened the nuts in the rear, aligned the wheel myself, and hopped back on and all was good. After about three miles, the rear tire went flat pretty quickly. It wasn't a slow leak. It blew out while pedaling. I'm thankful it was the rear and not the front as the front could have caused me to crash. I pulled over into the nearby supermarket, locked it up at the bike rack, and called an Uber to catch a ride home. I hopped in my car to pick up my bike and head home. When I took the rear wheel off to inspect the tube, there was a huge tear. It had ripped wide open inside the tire. You can see that in the photos. In addition, the rubber tire was so brittle it fell apart as I pulled the inner tube out. I also noticed the front tire was inflated with the stem at an angle. It should be perfectly perpendicular to the wheel for safety -and so it doesn't cause a leak or blowout. Long and short of this experience...if they did what I paid them for, they could have called and said, "hey, these tires are pretty brittle, you'd be taking a chance riding on them. We recommend getting some new ones and replacing the inner tubes while you're at it" and I would have gladly paid to have all that done. They simply received my bike on Tuesday, gave it a quick wipe down, inflated the tires, and called me to pick it up on Wednesday. That's not my idea of a professional, caring bike shop. Not to mention...they could have sold me some additional, and desperately needed, parts and services which is just good business -and you'd think that's exactly why they're in business. I just ordered new tires, new liners, and new inner tubes so I can do what I would have gladly paid them to do. I feel the $40 bucks I spent at their bike shop was an outright rip-off. I'm embarrassed for these guys because I thought they were solid people based on all the great reviews. Again, this was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and a monumental waste of my time and money. Although I can do all this work myself, the whole reason I brought it in was that I was short on time. read more

Not really. I went there a year ago to fix my bike's gear control (shifters) and they told me that issue had no way to repair... with evident disinterest to fix it. After that I found a bike shop in Redondo Beach, they fixed in 2 days and currently the bike runs perfectly It's just a matter of willingness to provide professional service at the end of the day. read more

We have bought all of our bike here for the past decade. We originally came in for toddler seats for our bike but ended up leaving with seats and toddler bikes. We've since been back for two other rounds of kids bikes and a new commuter bike for myself, which gets compliments everywhere I go. I ride 13 miles with a messed up tire only for him to tell me , this (onyx e-bike) isn't an e-bike this is a full on motorcycle. Tells he he's not gonna argue over e bike or motorcycle. So as of November 2018 there is a new owner. The bad news for anyone who bought bikes with the lifetime tuneup warranty (as per my previous review, the main reason for purchasing here), the new owner no longer will honor the warranty. I think this is a bad way to start a new relationship. Every time I got my free tuneup, I bought stuff. I even paid almost $250 to rebuild this bike when the entire back tire, seat, and mirror were stolen. I could have easily bought a brand new bicycle for that amount. That type of loyalty is earned not given. The tune up cost me $50. I will now consider other bicycle shops for tune ups and parts. read more

I was on the search for a new bike and really wanted an Electra bike but couldn't decide which was the best fit for me. I stumbled upon this gem of a shop and the owner was so friendly and helpful off the bat. He was especially nice to my dog who joined us on the trip. He explained in detail the differences between each bike I was considering and let me test ride them all in the parking lot to see which felt the best. I fell in love with the Townie EQ and needless to say I am very happy with my purchase and the experience. I would definitely recommend. I never owned a bike before. Well, I did once when I was 14 years old but it's been ages since then and with gyms being closed I thought it's time for me to get one. Good luck finding and buying a bike during the pandemic though. Everything is sold out! Walmart, Target, Amazon, all stores are completely out of stock for months ahead. I found one online bike outlet and ordered a pretty nice bicycle. 2 months later it arrived. The day finally came when the bike was at my door steps - completely disassembled. I didn't think that putting it together would be a big deal. That it would be no different than assembling a piece of Ikea furniture so I picked up a wrench and put the bike parts together. Let's just say that I discovered the bike assembly wasn't one of my strengths. Random pick on the map and it's happened to be Metropolis bikes. I made an appointment and took my bike in Everyone at the shop is super nice. The two gentlemen who work there were extremely professional and I felt very welcomed in there. Right away they offered their expertise, decent price to put the bike together and said that it will be done in about a week. Funny thing, on the way out of the door a random customer told me that I made the right decision that I came here and that he was really satisfied with everything these guys have done for him. That made me feel even better about my choice. Exactly a week later I get a call notifying me that the bicycle is ready to be picked up. It really was ready. I picked it up, paid my bill and left a happy customer, ready to write a five star review on Yelp. Why the 3 stars then? Unfortunately exactly a week later my bike started having problem. Front brakes started rubbing, making odd noises when I ride, indicating the fact that the alignment wasn't done correctly. So now I have to either fix this myself or take the bike for service again. I was excited the beginning but ended up being disappointed unfortunately. read more
