Last year I got my first keratin treatment from my mom's friend, who does hair from a home salon. I got it in JULY and it lasted until the following MAY. When she was unavailable for an appointment, I went to Metromodes because I was a loyal customer. They told me the keratin would last 3 months and upsold me on some special brand. I said "no, don't worry, last time I got it, it lasted 10 months" Literally it's the end of July, it's been 2 months, and my hair is a WRECK. I have a severe disability and am unable to work. That $300 was a Christmas present that I saved for 5 months with the intention of the treatment lasting about a year. It's absolutely Disgusting. Unethical. Dishonest. Amoral. I am SO disappointed with a salon that I trusted, and will have to save for months to get my hair done again by an honest hair dresser. read more

I have been coming here for years so a review is long overdue. Dave is my colorist, I have gone to him exclusively since I first started coming here. He was recommended by my sisters friends sister in law. Somehow my sisters friend, her sister in law and my sister all still go here after many years and we all see Dave. If you are a blonde (or fake blonde) you must go to him. Here is why... when you are working out at the gym and someone who is in the hair business comes up to you to tell you how fantastic your color always looks- you know you have made the right choice. I have received many compliments on my color by other hairdressers/colorists over the years. Dave is a true professional. You must book an appointment well in advance but he is definitely worth it. For the salon in general-the staff here is friendly and accommodating. Plus there are always beverages and cookies on hand while you wait. Many of the other colorists/hair dressers have been here for years as well so you know that the staff is experienced. read more

I am not one to jump online AT ALL and leave a negative review to ANY business for no reason. I actually jump on Google Reviews to do quite the opposite... Let me start off with if I could give 0 stars, I would. I called to set an appointment with a hair stylist at Metromodes after being recommended to them by family. I called, was on hold for about 10 minutes (which totally happens, that was not the issue at all). When the receptionist picked up the phone again (called 1/20/2021, around 2:45 - for the business's reference), we began to try and schedule an appointment for this or next week. This was also a normal progression in our phone conversation... and should not have been an issue at this point at all either. Let me start off by saying that I definitely struggle with trying to find a time for ANY appointment EVER as I am a special education teacher working home cases every single week day. I was also excited to get my haircut as I was growing my hair out for my October 2020 wedding until COVID took that away from me this year - also a reason why I found it so hard to call anywhere and get a haircut. While on the phone with this receptionist, when I asked one too many questions in terms of the hairstylist's availability, the receptionist snapped back at me over the phone, twice, and ended up telling me "Honey, I'm only telling you what I have" in a very nasty tone. As a result, I was totally turned off to their business, and hung up the phone. I couldn't believe the service I was receiving... OVER THE PHONE NO LESS. As someone who has been working TIRELESSLY as an essential worker in a very high-stress environment, I was only looking to get a simple haircut. Like the rest of the world, the past few months have been nothing but disheartening. Me asking for alternative dates or appointments should have been nothing crazy, not a wild request. I am very picky when it comes to who does my hair and WHAT is done to it, and was so glad I finally found Sebastian Michael. I have very thick hair and I'm not great at managing it myself but Sebastian has always given me great advice and suggestions. The perfect cut, blow out and even though I'm sad to say... perfect color! I never wanted to embrace the grays but Sebastian makes it easy and painless. He doesn't whip through a haircut and really cares about his clients. I've been with him for over 10 years which is a true testament to how good he is at his craft. Well this a fifty-fifty review. The color and highlights were great, however the colorist talked too much and I had wanted to break up my hair to be lighter with highlights. He explained that it would take quite a while ( more money for them) I went back to my regular salon and was able to break up the color with highlights and might do another round. I've tried dozens of salons. Maybe I could get a good haircut, but the coloring department was off, or vice versa. But at Metromodes every department is superb. I'm a red head which is a tricky color to maintain, but Dave knows exactly what works with my skin tone. As for a cut, you could do no better that Mark, one of the owners. I keep wanting to like this place but I have had two separate bad appointments. One time, the stylist I booked had an emergency the day of my appointment. My appointment was early, one of the first, so it is understandable that they called me right before. I said I was ok with switching stylists and that I really wanted my hair done that day. When I got there I was introduced to an older white male. He proceeded to give me an attitude the entire appointment and I could not figure out why until the end when he asked if I just made the appointment that morning online right before coming. I said no and then realized that no one must have told him he was covering for another stylist. Unprofessional and terrible customer service. Still I tried returning. It only took a couple visits for another bad experience. This time they again switched the stylist due to an emergency. This time they told her, but obviously she did not have time for my appointment. This stylist was less experienced than the one I made the appointment with. I was getting a partial highlight and it took much longer than it ever has. This is not something I planned on but understand. However, the stylist was obviously rushing to leave at the end. The shampoo girl left purple shampoo in my hair and although the stylist came over and helped her brush my hair out a bit, neither noticed. Because the appointment took so long, I rushed home and had dinner before looking in the mirror and noticing the big purple streaks at the front of my hair. I quickly showered but by then my hair was white. This salon is one of the more expensive that I have been to and I would expect much better than this. read more

I've never been disappointed with any of my cuts and I'm never afraid to have him try any new, it always looks nice. He understands hair and will give you a cut that suits your type of hair and face shape. This salon is fantastic and it's right here in Bellmore!! Sebastian is the only person that is allowed to come near my hair with scissors LOL. He gives me the best haircut possible every time. I was referred to him by a friend and I have been hooked ever since. Not only are his haircuts amazing, but his blow outs are equally amazing. I get blowouts occasionally, but they are always the best from him. He is also an absolute doll. I was given a haircut and color by my coworker as my Christmas gift and I am so happy with everything about this experience! I had my hair colored by Evan who is awesome. He highlighted my hair, brightening my entire appearance. I came in not really knowing what I wanted and he took all my suggestions via photos and gave me a look I didn't know I wanted/needed. While Evan foiled my hair, Arianna spoke with me about some makeup techniques that could brighten my complexion and compliment what i like to do with makeup. I don't like wearing much so she didn't try to cake a lot on me. She was very knowledgeable about Smashbox, which is refreshing. Most of the time I feel like I am being sold something I don't need. I then got my hair cut and styled by Mai. I love that she asked me about my daily styling routine, or rather non routine, and my wants for the hair cut. My experience with Evan, Mai and Arianna left me feeling very comfortable and confident. They made the trip from manhattan to Long Island totally worthwhile and worth doingx again! Initially I was really satisfied with my haircut and color, but I think I rushed to give a 5 star rating. I stand by what I said and I definitely will be returning but I'm not completely happy with my color. It looks good, but it isn't exactly what I asked for. The base color is perfectly matched to the photo I showed but there aren't any balayage tones of caramel. It's maybe a shade or two lighter but only noticeable in bright direct sunlight. It still looks good though I'm not completely unhappy but I just wanted to update my review. read more

This place is very hit or miss. I've gotten some incredible haircuts here, and also the worst haircut of my life. I asked for a shoulder length haircut with long layers, subtle and flowing. My hair is straight and I have gotten this many times with success. Ive always been able to wash it, and air dry and go. The stylist began by removing a huge amount of hair with thinning shears. I was worried, but I trusted a professional. At least 50% of my hair was gone. She even cut my baby hairs. She took a razor and started chopping up pieces. She then proceeded to create a mullet like hairstyle with a short piece in the front and a long layer in the back. The short piece in the front exaggerates my round face. The haircut does not flow cohesively and the shagginess from the shears has destroyed shine, created frizz, and made a straggly, pieces mess. It looks like two completely different haircuts, a bob in the front and a thinned out, shaggy look in the back, creating a mushroom shape to my head and neck. There is no way to style this cut without pieces flipping to the side or sticking out. I've had to wear my hair up every single day since this cut. If it air dries, it's a complete mess, which has never been the case for my hair. It looks like as if someone tried to grow out bangs. I knew she had made a mistake when she started fiddling with it, trying to blow it or straighten it. Be careful when you come here and make sure the stylist doesn't make a mistake. read more

I got the best haircut I've ever gotten here! I've gone to places in NYC where they ask for about $200 for a simple haircut and I have still left disappointed. Today I went to Madison at Metromodes after not having my haircut in about a year. She listened to everything I wanted and made me feel amazing!!! This review only gets two stars because of the lovely ladies at the front desk. They are always incredibly helpful, nice and genuinely care about the clients experience. If it wasn't for them, I would give this place a negative star review if possible. I went to Metromodes on the suggestion of a relative/Bellmore resident who claims to see it very busy all the time. I enjoyed its proximity to my own home so gave it a chance. Note: I have very dark brown hair and have been getting blonde highlights for about 15 years now. In between I was a double process for 3-4 years. I like my hair very blonde and know what is capable of being done/how to explain to colorists what I like. Time #1 I told the colorist (whose name I will not mention as I fear this review will take a turn for the nasty, and this is her career; please message me and I will be glad to share her name with you) my history and to make me as blonde as possible with many thin blonde highlights. She assured me she would make me the blondest and proceeded. I trusted her. This is her occupation. Highlights/Blowout Complete: I looked in the mirror and found myself well up in anger. I took a breathe, and approached the front desk. There was a very distinct difference in color where she thinly and sparsely highlighted my roots compared to the rest of my hair. It looked like a shadow. Plus her highlighting was sloppy and bled in certain spots making globby stains of color. I calmly pointed this all out to the front desk woman who kindly scheduled me in for free for a followup/fix. FINE. I dealt with the crap hair for a week. When I returned and gave this colorist another chance, she seemed to put in just as many highlights as the first time but did give me just enough highlights to keep me happy. Time #2 Figuring she knew what I wanted/liked, I gave her another chance. Everyone deserves a second chance right? NO. Despite me reminding her at the start of the last two times I came and reiterating how blonde I wanted to be, she did an even poorer job than the first time. More globbly bled bleach, a shadow atop my head and an obvious gradient of color due to lack of blending. Well I lost it and went straight to the front desk with my annoyance. As expected, they were very nice, reassuring and offered another appointment. I nicely told them I should not have to come back again, after we already dealt with this. Plus I would rather not damage my hair further. I complained a bit more about the colorist's lack of competency and listening skills and left. Like an asshole, I felt bad about my complaint and called and apologized (they did not remember me anyway) a week or two later. I am an asshole. This colorist deserves to be demoted to hair washer. read more

Great service and people! I love getting my haircuts and beard trimmed up here. They always do really high quality jobs and I love the conversation I have with the guy who does my hair. It's a really big place as hair places go (at least to me). They have parking in a tiny lot in front and on the side of the store but you usually have to find a spot on a side street, which is sometimes really hard to do. It's really a very high trafficked place. They give pretty nice head massages as they shampoo and condition your hair before you sit down for the cut. I'm a sucker for a good head massage. My only qualm is that it is so expensive! It's $38 a cut for me before tip for my guy. However, the service and the quality of the job he does is top notch. I shouldn't complain. I am definitely not their standard clientele. I am a male in his 20s. They seem like more of a place for women from high school and up with the occasional child. What the hell, I'm still a fan of this place. read more

I'm Caucasian and have a lot of curly/wavy/a bit straight in spots hair - some coarse, some medium width. I was recently in dire need of a cut; on a whim, I called Metromodes & Michael was suggested to me. His fee (and those of all the stylists) are listed clearly on the website. The salon parking lot is tiny, so you'll likely need street parking. The salon itself is pretty and spacious, and the staff friendly. First-timers are given a welcome bag with sample-sized shampoo and conditioner, a purse compact mirror, and a couple of coupons. The only problem I encountered is that the shampoo area is raised. If you have no mobility problems or can manage two average-sized steps, you're in the clear. As Michael and I discussed the plan, he was receptive to the fact that I like suggestions from my stylist! I figure s/he is a professional who might have a more clear idea of what could work, aesthetically and lifestyle-wise. He took into account my desire for a low-maintenance cut, and got that I'd use products he suggested, but I don't own heat-producing tools. He listened to me, and guided me in the right direction. My mother is allergic to hair dye, and whenever she gets her hair colored, she has to have a special paste meticulously applied through her scalp so she won't get a reaction.
