I shop at this location often. There are a few staff members who are always unpleasant. I went to a line to cash out and the cashier abruptly and angrily, said to the guy in front of me, "I'm closed after you. I'm closed." She aggressively told him to turn over the sign so that I would see it as she continued to look at me and again in such a rude manner, "I'm closed." As I walked away, I told her to please be nice. This isn't the first time she's been mean to me. I don't get it. Now when I see her, I just walk the other way. I can't stand the energy. Another staff person has attitude every single time our paths cross. Never cracks a smile. She acts like she's working for the C.I.A. Enough already! Honestly, there are only a few people that stand out to me - an older woman who is always super helpful, always kind...and god knows, she's had her share of crappy customers. They do exist...but I'm not one of them. There's a kind and helpful staff person at the self-check out who is always amazing, too. I never feel attacked when I ask her for help!! I thought numerous times to stop going but I'm not going to let some rotten apples stop me when there are others who make it worthwhile to shop there. read more

A cashier I have never seen there before was really patronizing!She was serving the man before me and she would not let him pack his own stuff! She took forever to pack his things into several large bags as he stood there trying to get her to allow him to do it himself and it took at least 15 minutes! She then tried to do the same to me. Giving a 76 year old woman who has been food shopping for 50 years how to pack my stuff and that she could do it. I did it with her critiquing each thing I picked up!!! Really convenient grocery store by the UofT campus! The quantity of product and stock completely depends on the time of day / day of the week you choose to come here. Tuesdays get pretty busy because of the 10% off student discount--especially after 4:00 PM. However, mornings and afternoons during the week aren't too busy and they are usually in stock of everything! Not to mention the staff is always nice and friendly. The only thing with this metro is that it's a relatively small and they don't have as many options/variety of products as some of the other grocery stores downtown. They do have all of the essentials and then some, which is all I need! read more

to be honest this metro has sucked for yeeaars. I had a boyfriend who lived on major street close by ten years ago and we complained about it then. now i live in the annex and it is just as bad. if you drive, the independent city market on college or fresh co on bathurst are much nicer. for most of us in the area it is the only grocery store around for those staple items you can't get in koreatown. The service was horrendous. I went in to grab a few items and was harassed by the security and workers there. Probably was the flag a carry. The owner instead of trying to defuse the situation came in yelling and screaming and wasn't there for the problem. He was immediately on the employees side and wasn't given even a chance to speak. Benny Marcoccia (Keele and Lawrence location) is a horrible store manager. I purchased a pack of veggie burgers from "Yves Veggie Cuisine". At home I noticed a huge chunk of disgusting mold growing on the side. The expiry is in June 2020. In the evening I went back to Metro and asked for a refund. The cashier looked like she was going to ring it through, but he came and interrupted us. Benny said "it's your fault you should have noticed it" then walked away. He didn't even say sorry. In a time of crisis with covid-19 we are strapped for cash. Metro has the power to help their customer and chose not to today. We had to line up AGAIN just to bring this item back because it's quite expensive when you're in a low income household. $6 for two patties. It might sound small to you but it just hurts more knowing that a huge corporation won't help their people when they're in need. He didn't even offer an exchange or store credit. Just denied and blames this on us. We have the receipt and the product unopened. This was purchased today and brought back TODAY. I honestly can't believe it. I feel trampled on. He probably thinks we will return despite this bad experience. He is wrong. I will never come here ever again and I'm telling everyone I know as well. read more

This is a serviceable store for this busy area. Not quite as large as the other metro stores I am used so they have a somewhat OK variety. Now the place can get slammed at times so beware. The packaged goods, produce is well represented but meat items can be a bit lacking though. They are located across from a TTC subway so they have that going for them for sure. I mainly use them for my Airmiles runs and they are 24 hours as well so that's a bonus IMO. read more

The fact that it's open 24/7 is a godsend for those last minute groceries, although they do make you walk around to the sketchier parking lot entrance (and not the entrance on Bloor) later at night. I don't think it's as horrible as a lot of people say it is - it's just very busy and crowded, and since they're the only supermarket for a while, it's true that they tend to charge up. However, I always go to Chinatown or Kensington for my produce, because it's pretty much the same quality but wayyy cheaper. Make sure to check out their daily meal deals - they have things like 8$ rotisserie chicken on Tuesdays, and 8$ large, hot pizzas on some other day. I've never had an issue with the staff here - I find that they're abundant and helpful. Yea, they're not exactly friendly, but if you ask them a short and to-the-point question they will give you an adequate and to-the-point answer. I've had good experiences with the cashiers - for example, most recently they scanned some pasta sauce that was overpriced. I didn't catch it, but my cashier did and asked for a price check. Saved me a few bucks - I was impressed. Their bakery is mediocre but pretty fairly priced - you can get a giant macaron-like thing for 1.65$, which I love as a snack on the go. You can print out coupons online from their website that makes most of the things fairly reasonably priced. read more

Bayview &York Mills, avoid that store. I went numerous times around 8:30 to grab few fresh croissants from their bakery department. There is that person always miserable, always 'overworked' complaining that she had to much to prepare pointing me toward stock from the previous day even though freshly baked goodies were standing there out from the oven... Avoid metro at that location. Other people are extremely friendly and helpful but too bad for me, no fresh croissants. This situation happened not once, not twice... A very unpleasant experience without fail, every time I go. You'd think I'd learn, but I keep coming back as if I want to inflict self-torture. Pros: has basic necessities, mostly packaged goods (to be safe), convenient location. Cons: Half-rotting produce, horrible meat/seafood selection, employees who don't offer help and all appear miserable. The only thing going for this store is its location. The produce is rarely particularly fresh or decent quality and I have been told repeatedly that this is the most expensive Metro store in the country. On one particular day I happened to be in the Metro at Yonge and College and I checked the prices of a couple specific goods and then compared them to the prices at this Metro in the Annex -- the prices were substantially more even though I was looking at the identical products at the same chain in the same city. Let's be honest - this place is f*cking awful. It's the worst Metro of them ALL (ouch!!!) Your shopping experience here will be miserable. As mentioned, it's located in a high traffic area and as a result is always ridiculously busy, even at 10pm on a weeknight. I always have to queue up for at least 10 minutes to pay, yet they never have all of the available cash lines open to help speed up the check out process. Perhaps they are too cheap to pay more staff or simply can't find people desperate enough to even work here. The produce, bread and meat sections are regularly under-stocked/sold out. The staff are miserable (and who can blame them?) I'm so glad I now live closer to Fiesta Farms than Metro. read more

Oh Metro. It is the only grocery store near my house so I find myself coming here even though honestly its terrible. The produce is never fresh. It is always busy (due to great location). In general the staff are unfriendly - but it's hard to blame considering most of the customers I have seen hear are nastier than the rotting oranges up front. One positive of Metro is that are typically good deals if you check the flyer. Unfortunately if anything that is on sale will not be in stock. However, they are kind of okay about giving out rainchecks. If you can go somewhere else do it, but if you are in a pinch Metro is okay - I just wouldn't buy produce here. read more

You know this place is bad when there is not even one good review posted. Not even an employee or owner could "fake" a positive review here. We have purchased spoiled cheese and half and half here. Lines are always long, and there are crazy people everywhere. We have had people cut in front of us in line, because they claim they "save" their spot with a box of cereal or half full basket. I have witnessed a fist fight in the parking lot at 1PM on a Sunday. We once ordered meat from the deli which we promptly left behind due to the deli attendant coughing numerous times on the meat as he cut it (no joke). I hope I am done with this place forever. It is extremely convenient but lacks proper sanitary codes. The front of the store literally smells like dirty diapers. There is a Sobey's two or three blocks west which is much nicer, and for the same expense, you call walk a half mile to Whole Foods and save yourself from this experience. read more

I don't think this place is *that* bad! Yeah, it is really small and cramped, but it's decent. I mostly go here for 3 reasons though: 1) it's the closest to me (besides the ridic expensive Whole Foods), 2) my parents buy me gift cards here, and 3) I collect Air Miles like a mad woman. I think there's only been 1 or 2 times in the last 4 years that I've had to go to another store because they didn't have what I was looking for. The cashiers though? Definitely not the friendliest. I have consistently bought rotten, past-their-date dairy products here (I know, I know, check the date, but sometimes you forget!). Things are expensive, and their "sales" are often hilarious (Regular $4.99 on sale for $4.79!!!!). I find the staff alternately "folksy" and chatty, and rude and sullen. Never straight up professional or just plain friendly. Decent selection for a smallish store, but don't expect to find much in the way of gourmet/ethnic foods here. I love living so close to a 24 hour supermarket, but there are so many things that make shopping here miserable that it really swings it toward a "meh" experience. Bleh: * Too cramped! Too crowded! * Fruit and veg section is a little strangely organised * Limited selection because of the size of the store * When the lineups are big it tends to be impossible to try and get anywhere near a cashier or even leave the store Hmmm, okay: * Fruit and veg is usually okay quality, and sometimes they have decent deals. I'd rather hit up one of the produce stores on Bloor, but sometimes it's late at night and I need to get stuff * It's open 24 hours. So handy. It's a case of the devil you know with this Metro; on the whole I think Metro stores are pretty shitty (I used to frequent the one at College Park when I worked there, and even that is better than this location). But when it's so convenient and there's no other options to get what you need, then i'll head along. I wish it was a Fiesta Farms instead, though. No complaints about this place. I'll admit that I tend to shop here because it's the closet grocery store to my house. Prices are a bit high, but the quality of the merchandise is pretty good. My location is 24/7, and it's open on holidays. So it's good to have around in case you need to pick something up when every other store is closed. I've had terrible experiences with customer service though, one example being that they wouldn't initially take back their rotten peanuts. I had to call the manager and ask her to smell them to confirm that they were rotten, only then did I receive store credit. Also, I find that Metro is significantly more expensive than most of its competitors. Would only shop here if I absolutely had to. read more

Now that the renovation is over it appears to be much cleaner. I only wish they would have fired the staff when they changed off. These people are continually disgruntled and generally useless when it comes to anything. I think there are one or two nice people I see there regularly. I worked at a grocery store for 6 years and would have been fired if I acted anything like these people (sloppy uniforms, out of uniform, not knowledgeable of products, rude to customers, hard to find when help is needed, etc.) Selection is decent but I find things move around a lot so it's hard to stay consistent. Apparently my last review got censored for being too long and overly negative. Nothing's changed. The meat department still stinks of urine. After buying $13 of stinky meat, and having the manager refuse to refund it, I won't spend any more money on meat here to find out. Canned goods, and dried goods are about the only areas where they're well stocked except for flyer specials. Cashiers are still as surly as always, and somehow still manage to get the tally wrong (which is quite a feat since it's automated). I think this may be the worst Metro store in Ontario. read more

This used to be the grocery store of choice for me and my house mates so I've shopped here quite a bit. To be blunt I'm glad we switched to another store. What Metro has going for it is a pretty decent selection. There was never really anything I wanted that I wasn't able to find. However the prices are just way too high on practically everything. One time an employee even suggested we shop in Kensington because it was a lot cheaper. Eventually we followed that advice and have been far more satisfied. Unless you haven't been able to find a good alternative or need a huge selection of groceries I'd recommend shopping elsewhere. read more

Great to just grab a bite to eat at lunch but not a place to shop for everything on your grocery list because: - as mentioned on many of the previous reviews, it's always crowded - the deli counter is so messy, the hams are never priced, I always have to ask the price of various hams - not a great selection of food - the isles are just crammed with food and people I realize that we're in the city and space is at a premium but the layout of the store could be changed to make it look spacious and accommodate the large inflow of people. read more

I used to live around the corner from this Metro (when it was a Dominion) and back then it wasn't very good. The place is pretty small for a grocery store but it's located in a very high traffic area. Right in the middle of the Annex, so basically every U of T student was here at 3:00am buying munchies and late-night study snacks. I used to like the fact they had a Coinstar machine, even though it was right by the cashiers and was super loud and somewhat embarrassing. The place was so cramped that when lines got busy you would have to line-up down the aisles. So I was pretty surprised when I went there recently they seem to have narrowed the aisles and have made things even more compact. I seem to remember my experiences there not being very good. Sometimes I would try to hit up other places on my way home from work to avoid shopping at the Walmer Metro/Dominion. read more

The Metro at Bloor and Walmer is one of the most over-priced grocery stores I've shopped at. Ever since it ceased to be Dominion and underwent a cosmetic reno to become Metro the prices have increase incrementally on what feels like a weekly basis. Now, I know that we're paying for convenience, but come on now! If, as Nick A. states, you can get to Chinatown or Kensington you definitely should because the produce is better and cheaper and you're supporting more local businesses. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the good things that Metro has to offer, though. 1) an often-on-sale selection of Arthur's smoothies. 2) pretty cheap loaves of Rudolph's Light Rye Bread with organic flour (which may be gone now, but I'm holding out hope). 3) the ability to do any type of shopping 24 hours a day right around the corner. 4) the staff! Oh man, these people are great. Sometimes you'll run into a gruff or grumpy one and they don't tend to know much about their products or even where they are in the store, but these people are pretty awesarific. Especially the midnight staff: mostly nice, often times strange, go in late and you'll see what I mean. read more

I don't really shop at metro (unless its for deli food, other wise it's way to expensive for my budget). But i really needed to use the bathroom, so i stopped in and kindly asked to use the bathroom, got the key and glanced upon what is one of the most clean grocery store bathroom i have ever scene. They may be expensive, but they do not skimp of cleanliness and being orderly. Thank you for making my bladder release experience not scarring. Pss. Workers are really nice. I shop here ALL the time. Its a few blocks from my house and they usualy do have great deals. There isn't much selection tho.. I came in the other night to do a full groccery shop and left with only half the things i needed. I really wanted Romaine lettuce but they only had a few bunches and they all were ripped appart!? Also, everytime i go in there, theres always bananas in bags in a box waiting to be put on the shelf with no one around them? Strange.. There fruit/veg selections small.. A big pricey here too.. And the cashiers arn't too friendly.. This one time she PILED our groccerys up and dint even give us bags to put them in we just stood there in AWW and created a big lineup.. :S read more

This place is the bane of my existence whenever I decide to lazy-out and not go to Chinatown or No Frills, or some other place with decent pricing. This Metro really fleeces you due to 'convenient' location. Fleece fleece fleece. I may as well be a little sheep getting a haircut.
