The MTA Metro SubwayLink which is a long name is okay for what it is. DC Metrorail is definitely ahead although I need to try their new cars. It goes from Owings Mills through Pikesville, NW Baltimore, Downtown, and Hopkins hospital. There is little to no cell reception underground unlike DC or even NYC now. More lines would be nice but the CityLink busses are quite good and frequent as are the Charm City circulators. The light rail is decent as well and it is too bad the subway does not connect to any MARC or Amtrak stations. read more

My usual mode of transportation is driving, but my colleague advised me to try the metro. We encountered no issues until March 12, 2024, when an altercation occurred during our evening commute, causing us to await police assistance. Another passenger was smoking meth in front of passengers,as well as doing other weird stuff. The poor school kids had to witness this. The city needs to do something about this about this, as of the moment I am retired from taking Baltimore public transportation. *The odor of urine is unpleasant as well on the train. read more

It was okay. Used it from shot tower to Lexington market and, initially I figured that was pointless, I also saw that the "downtown" area it runs through looks post apocalyptic. As does outside the Lex Market station. I literally had people try selling me drugs, yelling things at us and cat calling my gf as we were trying to like, you know, explore the downtown area? What a mistake. I digress... While it does run through downtown, if you're a tourist you're going to be hard pressed to find use in using the one and only subway line in Baltimore. Seems like opting for a bus, or just walking along the harbor is the way to go. Outside of a few downtown stops, this feels like a commuter rail to get from the suburbs to John's Hopkins Medical. On the plus it's fairly clean, but that's probably because it's underutilized on the whole. Which is not the subway's fault. read more

I wouldn't recommend using this service for getting to work everyday or going anywhere in general .Some days they come on time and most days they don't . Single tracking is always common and you be on the train for another 45 minutes . The night schedule is horrible for the Baltimore bus and train they run super slow and will drain your body people are disgusting and disrespectful including staff . The police is horrible as well . I rather take Uber and Lyft bus and train is not worth it . read more

I don't take the Baltimore subway a whole lot, and there's a reason for that - usually it just doesn't go anywhere I need to be. The most that I've ever used it is to head down to the main branch of the Post Office with a package or two, and for THAT, it is convenient. I live near the State Center stop, so it's a short walk away and it beats having to catch a couple of cross-town buses - which is exactly the problem, here. The subway could be - and SHOULD be - expanded. I thought it a big mistake that Baltimore invested in the Light Rail system, when there are plenty of opportunities to build more stations underground, perhaps spread out in a north-south direction. Apparently, such plans are not in the works - the whole idea was to connect the city to Owings Mills Mall in the first place. You see how THAT ended up. If you work at Hopkins Hospital or if you live toward Owings Mills/Pikesville and you want to catch an O's/Ravens game or two, it'll be more helpful to you. It's clean, certainly - but the trains and stations are showing their age at this point. It's about on par with the 1 series cars on the D.C. subway - they work, but you can tell they're from the 70's. They're functional, but do need some updating. This will get me quickly to Mondawmin Mall if I need something, though, which is good. The MVA is no longer there, though - you need to hit the Reisterstown station for that. The escalator at the Mondawmin stop is EXTREMELY high and gives me some severe vertigo, so if you're sensitive to heights, keep that in mind. As mentioned below - Penn-North is NOT Penn Station. It's Pennsylvania and North Avenues (hence, "Penn-North") and if you get off here expecting to see Amtrak trains, you'll be in for a surprise. Use the Light Rail if you need the train station. Almost dead on the weekends. But then, I like that. It is what it is. I just wish they'd do more with it, because it has/had potential. read more

Thank god for fast and efficient public transportation. Never has my train been late during my work commute. Like many of the reviews already stated, this may only be beneficial for you if you live or work near the stations. If either of those aforementioned conditions apply to you LISTEN UP. Beat the rush hour traffic and avoid driving when you're already dead tired from working a long day. You'd be surprised on how much energy to retain just by NOT DRIVING!!!!! But hey if you need to go elsewhere get familiar with the charm city circulator (which is free btw) or burn some calories by walking. And if you're from NYC don't complain about walking...its obnoxious and kind of hypocritical! I haven't taken the metro other than work day hours so I cant comment about crowd that comes around. Lets be real, baltimore doesn't have the best rep when it comes to safety. Im not going to take my chances but I would love to hear from people that have taken the metro at later times past 6 or 7, that way I can squeeze in a solid happy hour experience after a long work week and dont have to worry about driving. It may be small, but as far as subways go it is about as good as it gets. Low fare, good placement of downtown and commuter stops. It is great if you live near it, but also serves as a good core system for all the connecting bus routes and light rail. Recently rated well for station neighborhood walkability. You can download the schedules with RailBandit, or check them online with Google or the Transit App (Vermette's). Trains are almost always on time, clean, and well patrolled. Some single tracking on the weekends, so you may want to add 20 minutes to your trip time. MdTA keeps the info updated on their website. Baltimore Metro directly connects to the Circulator and Quick Bus. If you are looking for other connecting buses check out the frequent bus map featured on beyonddc.com. The frequent bus routes are the most reliable in Baltimore, and most run 24/7. read more

I'm not really sure where to start at this pathetic system called a subway. So yes, it does only have 1 line, but it gets you into downtown Baltimore and near the stadiums and Inner Harbor (but you will have to walk a couple of blocks). Granted, you will end up walking through some pretty sketchy areas if you happen to be there late at night. Best to turn your walk into a brisk paced sprint. Secondly, it's a Saturday night: there is an Orioles game and a concert taking place nearby. Why the hell are you only running 2 cars on each train? Apparently someone sucks at math, has no brain or just likes getting REALLY personal with the fine folks in Charm City. At least the seats were comfortable, when you actually had a chance to sit down. Not much legroom though. read more

Unlike many places, where you give a bad review and maybe they will see it and fix what caused the bad review, there is nothing B-more can do to fix my problem, because my main issue with the subway is where it runs, and without digging the whole thing up there is nothing they can do. I took the MARC to Penn Station, and having already seen that there was a Penn-North station on the subway, I figured it would be easy to connect to the Metro to go to Hopkins. Nope, the Penn-North station is no where near Penn Station. There was a light rail - that wasn't coming for a long while. Instead I have to walk several blocks south, and cross several streets and that very same light rail track to get to Metro. How could they not connect the subway directly to Penn Station? I did enjoy the complete emptiness of the subway stations, the 80s futuristic theme inside, and then having the whole car just about to myself. I'll give it two stars just so its one star better than the DC metro. read more

I started taking the subway back in March of 2022 for work. For the first couple of weeks it was decent. Slight delays but nothing major. However, the longer I have to take it, the worse it seems to get. There are weekly problems with different stations which cause single tracking and this slows down the entire process. It takes longer for the trains to come which means more people on each train. The trains are supposed to run every 8 minutes. Today, I waited 25 minutes and watched two trains head in the opposite direction before my train arrived. The gates are always open so they aren't even charging people to ride which probably explains why there are so many beggars getting on and off the trains, going from car to car asking for money. If it isn't that, its someone trying to sell you something. Random things like raisins or dryer sheets. Clearly junkies trying to get a little money for their next fix. I signed up to get email alerts so I could try and decide in advance whether or not I wanted to be bothered but of course, they don't send those consistently so you arrive at the platform only to find that there is some kind of delay. I don't know who runs this but they could do a much better job maintaining this line and keeping it running on time.. read more

Shhhh. Don't tell everybody but Baltimore has a subway. You'd be surprised at how few city folk even know that we have a subway. Yea, yea, it's only one line that runs from Owings Mills to Johns Hopkins on Wolfe St but for what it is this subway works. Don't compare this to NYC or London unless you can also compare Baltimore with those cities. Don't get all mad because this doesn't take you everywhere. It is what it is. Baltimore don't do mass transit very efficiently and is not thought out well at all. But what it does do it does pretty well. The subway is almost always on time, never dilly dallies around at the station, fast and clean. It can be tight if you are heading south to work and north home but I go against traffic and always have room to spread out. Unless you live on or work near this line then it's not very useful for you but if you wanna hit that awesome Jamaican joint on Rogers Ave. then hit it up. Gotta go to the MVA? Jump off at Mondawmin and you're there. Lexington Market? Got that too. But don't tell anybody about this. I don't want the secret of the subway to get out. I'm still enjoying the fact that I don't have to sit next to you. read more
