The whole smog check process was easy, straightforward, and had me back on the road in no time. The waiting area was also a nice bonus, with plenty of shade and a swamp cooler that made the wait comfortable, especially on a warm day. I called the Smog Spot, and a friendly gentleman informed me that they would be open until 2 PM that day, so I made my way there from Alhambra. The smog test was conducted quickly and efficiently; I was in and out in just 20 minutes. The pricing was excellent, and I would definitely return in the future.

Because if the standard is to charge people once they pass, even after they paid the initial fee then fine do that. But instead he looked at me and asked me why I took so long to bring it back (does it matter? It's my car??) & he asked "did he [the owner] ever say how much you have to pay" wtf? Umm do you guys not have my receipt and know the protocol? Is this a person by person basis? This was very shady and unprofessional. He then calls said owner, and tells me he will charge me. I was charged $20 total, $10 for service and I forgot what the other $10 was for but it made no sense. I wouldn't come here again, because they aren't outright with their prices and don't have them posted anywhere, so they can charge what they want when they feel like it. Not cool.

My total wait time was just about 45 minutes which wasn't too bad. He currently charges $50 and prefers if you pay in cash but also accepts apple pay! The workers here are so friendly it literally feels like you're coming to visit a friend or family. The smog check is sent electronically by them so you don't have to do too much other than coming in and handing them your form.

My 2018 Honda Civic kept showing "Not Ready" because I don't drive much since I work from home. Gregory patiently explained the situation and told me to drive more and come back. He was honest, knowledgeable, and never once tried to scare me into taking my car to the dealer. He said he's been doing this since 1987, and you can tell. This is the kind of old-school customer service that's hard to find these days. After my car finally passed, Gregory even gave me a complimentary car wash next door, which was such a thoughtful gesture. After the week I'd had, the little smiley-face air freshener from the car wash actually made me smile. Most people only write reviews when something goes wrong. I wanted to leave one because Gregory did everything right. Honest, patient, professional, and genuinely caring about his customers. My vehicle did not pass (check engine light / too lean bank 1) and I was told I had 10 days to come back to complete and pass the test again; or, I will have to pay again. Today, 2.5.26, my car was serviced at Pep Boys. I checked and found that the Smog Test Only Station closes at 5 p.m. When I arrived, at 4:48 p.m. I saw the roll-up door closed, but the pedestrian door was open. I was approached by an abrasive male what stated, "We're closed." I said I thought you closed at 5 p.m. He stated, "We're take the last customer at 4:45 p.m. because it takes 20 minutes to complete a test." I said I am (3) minutes late, a return customer (with my paid receipt / failed test results), and had my vehicle serviced and repaired today. He stated, "You have to drive it 100 miles before you come back to re-test." "You could have just had the computer re-set." I was not told about the needed 100 miles to be driven. The male who assisted me (2) days ago walked up and I told him that I was not told this by him. He said, "I do not remember you." The rude guy tells me that Pep Boys should have told me about the 100 miles and that I should have told them why I was there; basically it all falls on me. He also stated, "You could have just had the computer re-set with out any repairs to pass a smog test." If this is a Smog Test Station rule, then they should have told me... not Pep Boys... after going back and forth, I said I will come back within the 10 days and drive the car as much as I can. UPDATE: On 2.9.26, I returned an my vehicle passed the smog check. All three (3) staff members lacked any form of customer service and/or politeness. The lady that I was sitting next to, while waiting for our cars, commented, "They are not very friendly here are they?" I responded, "No, not at all and I will never come back..." If the shop closes at 5 p.m., and the last customer should be there before 4:30 p.m., it should be posted. The staff and owner have completely missed the mark of customer service and the general principle of a polite greeting and simple conversation with each visit, "Hello, how are you?" and "Thank you." Customer service is not important to this business.
