This was as pleasant an experience as could be for an unexpected car problem. An alert came on as we were coming home from the grocery store around 9PM on a Thursday night, indicating that the pressure in our tires were low. We got home and into the garage and then inspected the tires, and sure enough, there was a big nail embedded in one of them and it was already looking shlumpy (technical term). Luckily, Metro Motor Georgetown Exxon was still open, so we called them and they told us that, while the repair guy wasn't there anymore, we could bring in the car and leave it overnight. There are other garages in the area that technically let you do this, but they weren't still open with staff present and we didn't feel comfortable just leaving our car somewhere without talking to anybody or filling out paperwork. The only other option was to let the car sit overnight, during which time the tire would have gone totally flat, and then have it towed to a garage in the morning (we don't have a spare so joining Triple A and having them come provide flat tire service didn't seem like an option). So we were very lucky that this place was still open until 10 that evening. When we arrived we were able to park out front - though there weren't a ton of spaces left - I guess everyone else had the same idea we did. We went inside and the guy at the desk was helpful and said we could just leave our car and he would move it where they needed it. We filled out some really easy paperwork and left a key, then walked downhill to M St. and caught a bus home. This could have been a really nerve-wracking ordeal the next day, except that the garage called us first thing in the morning (I LOVE that they called us and we didn't have to call them). The guy who called said that in the case of a nail puncture he could just patch the tire for $35 instead of giving us a totally new tire. Which was very upstanding, because he could just as easily have replaced the tire and charged us more. We immediately got dressed and got an Uber to the general neighborhood of the garage and packed in some other activities - we dropped off a package at UPS, grabbed a quick bite at a local bakery, then went to the garage and our car was finished and waiting for us. It took about five minutes to go inside and pay, we got our key, no hastle, and drove our car right out of the parking lot and back home. Handled differently this experience could have been a stressful, disruptive, all-day ordeal. But Metro Motor Georgetown Exxon made it seamless and instead it felt like running a minor errand that barely took us out of our way. read more

Took my car here for a service, they didn't call me when it was done: I saw it sitting on the lot and walked round to find it had a large scratch from being scuffed against a wall or another vehicle. Staff at the garage said only the manager could speak to me- it took me a week to get him (he kept avoiding me) and when I showed him the damage he just denied that it could have been them "we don't scratch cars, it's impossible"... He also refused to give me contact details for anyone more senior and denied that they were responsible for any damage that happened when they were in possession of the car. Absolutely shocking service, will never be back and would recommend that others steer clear. read more

This is the most poorly managed gas station I have ever seen. Been to many different gas stations in the DC area for 15+ years and this one was uniquely bad. It looks kind of run down and poorly maintained. Lighting issues, broken screens/buttons, parked cars blocking entry/exit access, and the guy working inside the store acts like a real a**hole when you try to ask for basic help. Car alternator went out right in front of shop so i left it with them to get quote to replace it. Was dissatisfied with the quote and found another shop that was $170 less. So I go to get my car and they charge me $75 to recharge the battery and test the system. Then I was told by Jamie(service manager) that the charge is normal. Walked in, immediately had a mechanic check the tire, fix the slow lead he found, explained what he was doing, put the tire back on and I was done in ten minutes. Folks inside the shop and in the mechanics bay were super nice and capable and the price was less that half what I expected. Best service and value I have had in a long time and we are from Iowa where that is our expectation so pleased its a DC thing too. Absolutely would go again. read more

Broke down in DC while on vacation, was charged $1136.49 for a radiator and radiator hoses. Repair was sloppy, bolts and fasteners not replaced. Charged to replace my radiator hoses, however learned when I returned home with a transition leak that radiator hoses were not replaced. Called Jamie to report that I was charged for parts that weren't replaced, he appeared annoyed by my phone call and requested pictures. Didn't hear back from him. Reached out several additional times, followed up with an email. Jamie was much more professional on email. Jamie called today and bluntly said, "do you have credit card handy? I'm going to put my cashier on the phone for the credit." No final apology or kind words. Cashier credited me $163 for the hoses. I do not recommend this garage, but if you use them ask to see the problem/failing parts before agreeing to repairs and check that parts have actually been replaced. I have since learned this repair would have been a fraction of what I paid if the repair was completed in Jersey. Update: Yes, I received the email, as I mentioned in my review- different tone from my abrupt phone interactions with Jamie. To clarify- I was refunded $163 for the parts and labor that was not completed, but I was charged. I was NOT refunded in full for the work completed. No one bothered to address that I needed to have several bolts and fasteners replaced when I returned home because they failed to put them back during the "repair". Bottom line- Jamie told me I needed new radiator hoses and radiator. I still have my original radiator hoses in my car, they are fine. Beware. read more

But the owner showed genuine concern, quickly replying to my post (see below), and the manager even sent me a discount voucher for next time to show good will. I am pleased that the owner and manager of this service station care what their customers think... and that they read Yelp! DO NOT GO HERE! I have.been bringing my car to this shop for oil changes and tire rotations for over 7 years now and their services have gotten exponentially worse. Last week I requested that they change the oil in my car, check the fuses because my radio wasn't working (asked them to disconnect the battery and reconnect it in the event Audi has a reset feature once this happens) and rotate the tires. I get a call later in the day stating that the car was ready for pick up. I pay the attendant for the service charges and then I ask where my car was because I didn't see it in the lot. He stated it was at Pump #2. I went to pump #2 and my car isn't there. I walk around looking and then find my car backed behind the fence with the trunk popped open and cables to a battery charger connected to my car (battery is in the trunk). After I went back into the station to ask what was going on-Jaimie- an owner or manager, told me the battery had been drained and died and that I had to drive it for an hour over 50 miles an hour to recharge the battery. I brought it home (as I didn't have time to drive it 50 miles an hour for an hour at that time). The next morning, I go to start the car to drive it for an hour and the battery was dead. I called roadside service- and while they were on their way to bring a $260 battery, I noticed I also had a flat tire on the back passenger side. When the roadside service guy showed up, he replaced the battery and was beginning to fix the the tire with a plug- but he couldn't find a leak. He told me that it wasn't flat - that it was just that no air was in the tire. The STATION DIDNT FILL THE TIRE WITH AIR- after having the job of working on the tires! He put air in it and now it's fine. I then parked it and for the past week it's been raining and now I have been getting 3 inches of water on the drivers floor board because they tore the rubber gasket that meets the door's window to make a seal. This has never ever happened before in my car. Everyday I've been having to wet vac all of the water out of it. This gas station has costed me over $1000 to fix what they have broken. I used to say that I trusted them for nothing major but they were fine for tire rotations and oil changes- but they can't even do that correct these days. Do not go here unless u want to leave it up to the gods to protect ur car. If ur not the type that has very much faith in Neptune I recommend that u stay the hell away from here! They are really really REALLY messed up! read more

Wonderful staff from the moment I walked in the door soaking wet from rain from having my car break down during a trip to DC. I'm from out of town, traveling alone, female, and am always on the lookout for someone taking advantage when it comes to cars. The staff was warm and inviting and offered me a bottled water, I must have looked a mess. They let me explain what I wanted and told me they would be right on it and have it fixed that day for me to get back on the road. That's exactly what they did! They also recommended a few shops and restaurants nearby to check out during my wait and offered me an umbrella for the rain. From waiting in the waiting room it was clear to me that the entire staff gets along and honesty enjoys helping out their patrons. Glad my tow truck dropped me and clunker off here. Attention to customer service is an important component of running a business, and I do wish to commend Hamood for apologizing and stating his intentions "to make sure we remind everyone from top down what is and what is not tolerable when speaking to any customer and make sure everyone understands the consequences may this type of behavior reoccur. " Unfortunately, the problem of sexism seems endemic to the automobile service industry. As such, I would prefer to give my business to the locations that get it right on the first or even second tries. I hope this issue is able to be resolved for the future customers of the Georgetown Exxon, but I have to say that I will not be one of them. read more

I recently had some repair work done here at the recommendation of AAA (my car broke down on the Whitehurst Freeway). When the technician called, he quoted $580 dollars to replace the spark plugs, spark plug wiring, and fuel distributor. Had this been all I would have been happy. Unfortunately, he decided to try and sneak a premium fluids and filters package into the price despite the fact that I had recently had that work done. needless to say, that's where my trust in his assessment withered. I requested a lower quote to replace the fuel distributor only, and was given a number in the low $200's. Fine. I can get my car running, and take it to my mechanic in fairfax. Good! Except not. When I pick up my car, I'm notified that the mechanic fiddled with the ignition timing, the result of which was a rapidly fluctuating tachometer needle. I'm sure that was well intentioned, and maybe even necessary, so I would be willing to forgive and even recommend this service station if not for the following fact: When I reviewed my credit card statement I discovered I had been charged the original quoted rate of $580. UPDATE: After posting the general manager contacted me. He was very understanding and helpful in his genuine attempt to resolve my complaint. As a result of his efforts I have raised my review. My husband and I traveled from NJ to DC on 2/14/15 and planned on staying just for 1 night. As we were driving out to dinner the check engine light came on and our truck started jerking. We decided to stay an additional night to have our truck checked before returning home. We called Georgetown Exxon (referred by AAA) at 6:30 am this morning and was told the mechanics would be in at 7:00am. We arrived at 7:00 am spoke with Jamie Ladson the service manager. He promptly checked our truck and found our mechanic who serviced our truck on Friday had crossed the wires which also burned a hose. Jamie made repairs so that we could make it back home. Jamie and the staff were courtesy,professional and prompt. He also only charged us the diagnosis fee and nothing extra! Thank you again Georgetown Exxon!! read more

I've brought my Jeep here 3 times now for repairs ranging from an illuminated airbag warning light to a dead vehicle with complete loss of power steering. Every time I've come away feeling like my car was diagnosed objectively and at a very reasonable price. Jamie is excellent and keeps you informed throughout the repair process. This was a trusted, reliable shop that took good care of my family's cars for many years. But recently they changed ownership and the new manager is shady. I brought my '97 Camry in for a leaky radiator. While working on that they talked me into doing a $200 power steering flush, ostensibly to prevent leaks. 30 DAYS LATER my power steering started acting up--sure enough, the rack was leaking! When I brought my car in again they quoted $1200 dollars to replace it. I sought a second opinion at Auto Tech in Adam's Morgan, and they charged me barely over half that for the same work. I can't prove it, but I suspect these guys sabotaged my car. This "power steering flush" wasn't necessary, and did nothing to prevent leaks, if it didn't actually cause them. I have a 15 yr old Passat wagon that runs beautifully, thanks to a mechanic back home. I have found that it is not so easy to find a knowledgable, reliable & HONEST mechanic these days, especially as a woman without much car savvy. My worry, in owning an older car, was that while out of town & away from my mechanic, I would need service. My fears were realized on the beltway, during rush hour, when I realized something was very wrong & i prayed to just be able to get to Georgetown, unload the car, including my cat & find a mechanic. I was pleased to find that within 4 blocks of where I was staying, Georgetown Exxon seemed to be the place to go. I was not disappointed! Jamie was extremely nice & knowledgeable, diagnosed the issue right away & went out of his way to speak with my mechanic. He then rushed my car through it's repair, so I could visit with my mother who I came to see. My mother has Alzheimer's & one of her great joys these days is to take rides with me in my car. Not good. Timing belt went. Told me no compression. Charged me $135 to tell me that the engine needs replacing. (4 to 5 thousand dollars) My neighbor's son said not an interference engine. Cost me $780 including parts and labor and water pump. Tipped him $200. Runs great. Either incompetence in diagnosis or they just did not want to do the work, in which case they could have just told me. They did not try to sell me on a new engine, but did tell me that I needed a new one. Glad I got a second opinion. read more

THIS EXXON SAVED US almost $5,000.00! We took our Mercedes into EuroMotors for one problem and they called and gave us a list of over $7,000.00 of repairs and service work needed. Of the services they said I had to have had to do with my tires and the other with an oil change. I remembered I had taken my car to this Exxon a few years earlier. I called to find out what they had done, and sure enough the car was not ready for the work EuroMotors wanted to do. Okay, no ones fault - EuroMotors just didn't know better. THEN I spoke to Rob, the MGR of this Exxon about the quote I had received from EuroMotor and he offered to quote for the work too. OMGosh!!! Exxon uses certified Mercedes parts and A) Exxon prices for the same work were 25% of what EuroMotors wanted to charge us. B) After a looking at our car; Rob showed us SEVERAL items that EuroMotors said we needed to "repair" - that in fact, were not even broken nor worn! EX: EuroMotors told us we needed a new engine block. We did not need one. WE LOVE THIS EXXON!!!! OUR ADVICE, IF YOU GET A QUOTE FROM ANOTHER PROVIDER - TAKE YOUR CAR TO EXXON AND LET THEM TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR CAR AND GIVE YOU A QUOTE! Folks are HONEST AND FRIENDLY at this location. Took my car in to get a second opinion on what Audi was telling me I needed to have done. After checking twice (Jamie used to work for Audi, I believe), Gtown exxon confirmed that the major work (tie rods) that Audi told me to have fixed, in fact, did not need to be repaired at all. There were still minor repairs that needed to be done, but I ended up paying a fraction of what Audi was quoting me and they repaired only what needed to be repaired. I am happy to have someone honest & fair in the neighborhood to keep our cars going. read more

This is my 2nd experience with taking one of my vehicles in for service to this place and based on these 2 experiences, I would strongly suggest taking your vehicles else where for service. Both times, the repairs ended up costing me more then twice what it would have cost me to have the work done someplace else and twice what the average cost was for the service I received which you can google on the internet and which I verified by calling a few other establishments. In this particular experience, I needed a new fuel pump. I was told up front that it would cost $150.00 just to diagnose this issue and then when I got the call telling me it would be $1100.00 plus dollars, I asked if they could do better and I was told that they strongly suggested using only the top of the line parts. When I said that I wasn't planning on keeping the vehicle for more then a year and that I would prefer they use the mid line part, I was told that they wouldn't be able to get it. Mind you, my van is a 1999 Chevy Astro and when I checked with the dealership, they told me that getting the mid grade part was not a problem. None the less, I would have been out the $150 dollars and additional tow charges, so I told them to go ahead. Upon completion, they called to inform me it was ready and also told me that they threw in an oil change & new wipers, which I thought was very nice. When I got there to pick up the van, I noticed that my fuel tank had gone from over 3/4 full to under a quarter of a tank. While I understand some fuel loss, when I made issue with it considering the cost of gas these days, I was told that it was to be expected and that they gave me the oil change & the wipers. While they did do that, at the time they told me that over the phone, they made it seem like it was just a nice gesture and not for any fuel loss. Frankly, I just don't like the way this place does business. These are the types of mechanics that give the industry a very bad name. They are extremely expensive and again, my advise is that you avoid this place like the plague. Seek a better alternative which is willing to work with you and not charge you the highest price possible. read more

I wanted to follow up and say that I do have to take my car to get checked by another mechanic 2 months after getting my brakes done because they are much worse than even before they were replaced. I really really really warn against using this service station. They also are not monitoring yelp like they used to after the management change. I would love to use them because of their convenient location and I loved the previous manager but I am afraid it is dangerous to get work done there now- After having to use my antilock brakes to stop twice for what should have been slow easy stops my car is dangerous to drive.
