The communication and scheduling was lacking, so we were a little frustrated, but it didn't prepare us for the ordeal we were going to be dealing with. We live in an old house, 1920's. My husband expressed this many times, that appropriate measures would have to be taken as we had lead in our old windows and trim. I heard him over the phone as well as in person and he was assured they would take the steps necessary. The day the windows were to be replaced, my kids and I left the house. Two windows were in our daughters room, the other in our guest bedroom. One window was oriented the wrong way and still installed. The worst part was, after removing the old windows, the workers took leaf blowers out to blow debris out into the yard below and all over the rooms. My husband ran upstairs and yelled at them to stop, that once again, there was lead paint involved. They stopped and cleaned up, but not well enough. My husband wiped everything down afterwards, not trusting it was cleaned properly. A few months later, my daughter received test results showing elevated levels of lead in her blood. It was quick and not a single other person in our family had any detectable levels. I was livid. I'm still livid. I don't care that one of our windows is wrong or that it took forever to arrange communication. I'm livid that lead safe practices weren't followed as promised and my child had to pay for it. You can't put a price on that. Thankfully, she's grown, and the situation is under control now, but if you have an old house, I would absolutely not recommend this company. To the owner, if your business gives homeowners your word that things will be done safely and following safe standards, you need to follow through. Safety should be top priority. This could have had a very poor outcome.

I knew which windows (4 of them) I wanted replaced since an Anderson Renewal guy had come out separately to inspect & provide a quote. Chris from Main Street was extremely kind, helpful, and upfront. I chose them ultimately because of this pleasant meeting, urgency for the replacement, and fair price. He was my only point of contact the whole job which was nice and he was on top of communicating things throughout the whole process. We also have siding being replaced so he communicated with my other contractor to coordinate timing. Pricing was very reasonable compared to Renewal but more expensive than a DIY vinyl install because of the window quality. I wanted a window that would last and was willing to pay more. The Anderson 100 series installed was literally half the cost of what Renewal had quoted me (I believe they quoted the 300 series) but are very high quality windows regardless and we really like them. There are some minor aesthetic defects from the manufacturing of the windows (pictured here) but they can be trimmed off very easily and aren't a concern. The installer Dre came in with Dan as support and they did a beautiful job. I had plenty of notice beforehand and they finished the job exactly as estimated (about 6 hours) after cleaning up very nicely. All in all, I thought Main Street Windows had a competitive price, I appreciated their recommendation for the product, they did a great job communicating, and the windows look great.

After horrific struggles with Home Depot and Lowe's with multiple failed orders for two entry doors, we switched to Renewal to give them a try. Calling to schedule a consultation appointment was very simple. Within the next week, our Design Consultant Gerard came over and we had a lengthy discussion about our options for both doors and the process it'll take to accomplish the task. Like I said earlier, it costs a good amount of money, but with the current state of steel door backlogs and incompetence of "chain" stores, we just wanted this done. A couple weeks later we had the official measuring tech, Thomas, out to measure the exact dimensions of what we needed, as well as other accessories. A couple months went by while the door was being constructed (yes, sadly Renewal by Andersen cannot escape supply chain difficulties either), but that was okay because we had a good feeling that they'd be correct this time. We were patiently anticipating the outcome of this journey. We received our call of when the installation would be and had our fingers crossed that everything was correct. A man arrived to install both door, which was quite impressive that he was going to do both, all the side work required, as well as removal of the old doors. First thing was first, that I went out and made sure the doors would fit where they were supposed to go and luckily, they were perfect fits! He went through and installed both doors in a few hours, just before the storm hit! We were very impressed with the results (pictures attached) and it was well worth the wait. Bottom line, Renewal By Andersen is more expensive, but their quality, handling of service, and product selection is top of the line, so it's incredibly worth it! Instead of replacing all the windows around the house like all the window selling people are telling us, Rob offered to fix the windows for a much better pricing. We are so happy with the result we asked them to remodel our three bathrooms. Again, their quote was better than the other 8 companies we compared with. Their timing and flexibility was better as well! Throughout the process of bathroom remodeling, they were extremely helpful, accommodating and easy to work with. From picking tiles and helping us with the pickup (usually pretty expensive), to going out of their ways to seal cracks for us on the wall and hanging paintings for my mom. They were able to accommodate everything we asked them too. Including changing old electric outlets, adding a shower in the guest bathroom, and switching the vent to a heated vent. A major beam in our sun room was screwed in incorrectly by Roberts people. The beam fell from the ceiling hitting another contractor. Thank god the contractor wasn't injured.

We recently contracted Alco Glass to replace two severely cracked countertops. The process…read moreinitially appeared smooth, and the installation tech presented himself professionally. However, once the installation was completed, our experience declined significantly. The installer left immediately after finishing the job without inviting us to review the work or confirm that it met our expectations. Upon inspection, we discovered several issues that were concerning. The silicone caulking was applied poorly, with uneven lines and visible gaps that should not have been present. In some areas, the silicone was not properly adhered and could easily be pulled away, which raises concerns about both durability and safety. Despite two return visits to address the issue, the caulking remains substandard and visually unprofessional. He claimed to us he had a "hard time seeing" but was not wearing glasses the first time he came back. He wore glasses the 2nd time he retuned to fix the issues, but that didn't seem to help. He also left silicone on several parts of the solid counter itself and did not wipe it away. Additionally, one of the glass countertops appears to have been cut unevenly, resulting in odd gaping between the edges on both sides. When we asked about this, we were told there were "Tolerances" allowed when cutting. I can't believe that such a difference would be allowed that it caused the gap to be wider on one side than the other. The installer also removed the white foam that had been placed between the glass and the wooden frame beneath. Rather than consulting us about replacing it, he simply colored the exposed wood with black marker and installed the glass over it. Because the glass is transparent, the wood is clearly visible, creating an unattractive and inconsistent appearance compared to our existing countertops. When we inquired about the missing foam, the installer stated that there had never been any material between the glass and the wood, which is inaccurate. Our other countertops clearly show the same white foam in place. You can even see on the wood where he colored in the remaining pieces of foam he couldn't remove with a sharpie. Furthermore, when we pointed out a noticeable gap in the silicone between the glass and the solid countertop, we were told it "could not be filled," which we find difficult to understand. Another concern is that the installer consistently left the premises before we had the opportunity to review the work, preventing any real-time feedback or approval of the completed job. Overall, we are very disappointed with the quality of workmanship and the lack of communication throughout the installation process. At this point, we will likely need to redo the silicone ourselves or hire another professional to correct the issues. Given this experience, and the fact that it cost over $2000 for such shoddy work, we would not consider using Alco Glass again for future projects.
