The staff was incredibly patient and supportive throughout my entire journey. They never made me feel rushed or discouraged, and truly helped me grow both professionally and personally. A very special thank you to the Director and one of my instructors, Mrs. P, her encouragement helped make all the difference. Highly recommend to anyone considering esthetics!

I got a relaxer last time, but this time my hair was (mostly) natural and I wanted to keep it that way. I requested a natural hair process of wash, dry, and trim. I had a style picture sample to show them too. My stylist (Tranise? Denise? Raynisa?)was more of a novice in need of supervision this time than my previous stylist, who was mostly there to accrue hours. She was friendly and approachable. As with my last service, I paid FIRST, word of warning to those who go. Not sure what the return/exchange policy is there for very unsatisfied customers. The atmosphere was upbeat and supportive, with my signs encouraging smiling and positivity. There seemed to be the same supply issues, however, of equipment missing, misplaced, or unavailable. I was told a diffuser would be used to keep my curl while drying, but no one seemed to have one. After a mishap or two (too much product, had to rinse it out) I was placed under the dryer but no additional conditioner was applied to my hair. I should have requested it but really should I have to? I got some good advice on maintenance, and I got the style that I wanted too. When I am more comfortable handling my hair I will go back, maybe bring some equipment/product just in case.

I've had the pleasure of knowing and learning from Nika for the past several years Most recently, I…read moretook her bridal detailing class and bridal business class offered through Chicago Beauty Exchange. I was so excited looking forward to the class because I knew it would be a great learning experience for me. Nika is one of those rare teachers that does not hold back when she is explaining or teaching you something. She will literally tell you all that she knows. And she doesn't get annoyed by people who ask a million questions (that's me). I'm in a season of my career that I'm trying to take things to the next level, and her class was the perfect class for me to take at the right time. I am a nerdy makeup artist who happens to have an advanced college degree. Nika appeases that side of me because she brings in a lot of her background in the arts when she teaches. She knows a lot about bone structure and color theory and is very knowledgeable about that world and how it translates to makeup. She just doesn't explain the what, she explains the how which, for a person like me, is how I really learn things. Nika is also very honest. Earlier in my career she gave me a very intense critique that gave me a lot to work on and helped to push me farther along on my journey. Nika has inspired me to work on my business plan, website, logo, know my way around legal issues, make quality connections, how to brand myself and to really dream long term about where I want my career to go. She doesn't discourage you but she empowers and encourages you to fulfill your potential. After taking her class, I have enough on my to do list to keep me busy for the next year, at least. And my confidence has increased that the goals and dreams that I have in my heart are actually reachable. She also spills her guts when it comes to her makeup application techniques which is so helpful. A lot of artists may leave out one or two most important steps in their technique that really perfects it. Or they will act like something they are doing is simple and common knowledge and gloss over it, when it is something they had to work to perfect. Not Nika. She is very open and sincerely interested in helping others become better at what they do. She explains her step by step and doesn't hold back on her products that she uses. I am very glad to have crossed her path and I plan to take more classes from her in the future.

AMAZING class! It was a color class, and let me say I felt like I learned more in the three hours I was there then I learned in school. The instructors of the class were Patty Lehr, Lynn Griglin, and Darlene Burnham... There aren't words to describe how amazing these three women are. They were willing and they took the time to answer any questions that we had and they answered them in a respectful and professional way without making us feel bad about having to ask a question. After the class we were able to stop in the wholesale shop which has a HUGE selection of wholesale Professional Salon Products, from Bracoto, to Paul Mitchell, to you name it and they probably had it. On top of having an awesome merchandised shop the staff here in 'The Space' were so extremely knowledgeable about the products they are selling in their store. You do have to be a Licensed professional in order to buy from this store, but that is not a problem at all. Now Rockdale is quite a drive for me but I say it is 500% worth the drive for the class as well as the customer service and the positive energy you get from just being around such great people. I look forward to taking more classes as well as buying my salon products that I will need in the future! :)

I had an appointment scheduled for a sew-in/extensions service along with a full acrylic set and…read morelash set. When I arrived, I was told that lashes and acrylics are not done until after 5pm. Unfortunately, this was not communicated ahead of time. I chose the Highland location specifically because it offered acrylic services -- otherwise I would have scheduled at a closer location -- so I really wish this had been clearly communicated, especially since the appointment was for Valentine's Day (02/13). The check-in process was also a bit wonky, and I wish the reception was more responsive when I arrived. I waited at the front desk while staff assisted someone else, and another customer who arrived after me was acknowledged first. I had to ask to be checked in, and that's when I was notified that two of my services would need to be canceled or moved to a later time. My student stylist, Deyonna, was kind, patient, responsive, and caring from start to finish. From the introduction, to washing my hair, to completing the style, she made sure I was comfortable -- she took care not to get me wet during the wash and checked that the clip-ins were not too tight. She kept trying throughout the appointment while learning a new skill, which I truly respect, and made multiple attempts to improve the result, including attempting to adjust and hide the clip-in tracks when I mentioned a few were showing. An instructor did come over to assist, which I appreciated. However, once it was clear the student was struggling, I wish the instructor had stayed for the rest of the process or checked the finished product before leaving. Due to the track placement and my fine hair, the tracks were still visible, and I ended up having to adjust the tracks myself at home. I'm confident that with more experience, especially with parting fine hair and track placement, she will be great at this service. I also called twice the day before to try to add a pedicure to my services but no one answered. Overall, I appreciate the student's effort and professionalism. With clearer scheduling communication, more responsive reception support, and continued instructor involvement through the finish, the experience could be much smoother for future clients at this location.
