I am super excited for my future but also super sad to be finished with school. The program was about 4.5 months and time went by so surprisingly quick but I have gained so much knowledge in that short period of time. From the beginning, I researched pretty extensively for esthetics schools around the area and came across ISBA. It seemed to be extremely detailed in what it had to offer so I scheduled an in-person interview with Dr. Doran. I brought my husband along with my two year old toddler and she was so welcoming and passionate in what she had to explain to me. I'm already a licensed cosmetologist so she took the time to ask me herself what my future endeavors are such as my goals, career, what I planned on getting out of the esthetics program. (I told her I enjoy doing hair, but skincare interests me and I might want to work in a medspa, etc later on) Instead of pushing me forward and just letting me apply/enroll in the program, she explained why it wouldn't benefit me as much considering that I was already licensed in cosmetology and if I still planned on staying in the hair industry. It would basically be like getting licensed for something I'm already qualified to do. She then explained about their MA program if medspa is what I'm leaning towards because being a certified MA would improve my current qualifications/resume whereas just being another licensed esthetician would be the same as I am now if that makes sense. The fact that she took the time to talk me out of their more expensive program and into another program to benefit me personally was enough for me to already want to enroll. It shows how much she cares for people individually and cares for everyone's success/future. Also, the fact that their class sizes are so small (my class only had 7 people) shows that she takes pride in who enrolls because she talks to them and makes sure the program is the correct fit for both the student and her. I truly appreciate and respect that. As for the MA program teacher, Ms. Helen; she is amazing. She is honest, fun & funny, caring and most importantly, patient. She teaches in the perfect pace where it isn't too slow nor too fast. If someone is having difficulty grasping a lesson/concept, she takes the time to pause and makes sure that student understands before moving forward without making it seem degrading or embarrassing. Our class asks ALOT of questions, most of the time confusing questions lol, and she makes sure she answers all of them til we understand and goes into depth with it. If she is unsure herself, she takes the time to research until there is a solid/clear answer. She provided us with her own handwritten flash cards & study games to help us prepare for our NHA exam. I had a little bit of prior education in the medical field from being in the military.. but there were a lot of topics where I was unable to retain the information after all these years. But going over those same topics with Ms. Helen, I am able to remember them and retain them easily because she teaches in a way where you're not just remembering terms/concepts, you're actually understanding why/what/etc. I am super appreciative of her and I'm so proud and glad I was apart of this program. I have a few friends/family who were apart of other MA programs that were a year long and after speaking with them, they didn't learn or go over a lot of the same material we had gone over nor had the same great learning experience. So I'm definitely pleased that I chose to go with this school because it was so worth it! Thank you ISBA!

I was seen within 5 minutes of walking in and filling out paperwork and I was out after 1 hour. The esthetician was professional and asked me about my medical history, skin concerns, and skin regimen. This was not just a simple microdermabrasion treatment--she included the cleansing, scrub, hot towel treatments, mini massage, extractions, high frequency treatment, and moisturizing--it was a back facial + microdermabrasion combo! The facilities were clean, quiet, and everybody was helpful and accommodating. For $24 you can't go wrong! I only wish they had a store front since it's so hidden on the 4th floor of a big building.

I got a relaxer last time, but this time my hair was (mostly) natural and I wanted to keep it that way. I requested a natural hair process of wash, dry, and trim. I had a style picture sample to show them too. My stylist (Tranise? Denise? Raynisa?)was more of a novice in need of supervision this time than my previous stylist, who was mostly there to accrue hours. She was friendly and approachable. As with my last service, I paid FIRST, word of warning to those who go. Not sure what the return/exchange policy is there for very unsatisfied customers. The atmosphere was upbeat and supportive, with my signs encouraging smiling and positivity. There seemed to be the same supply issues, however, of equipment missing, misplaced, or unavailable. I was told a diffuser would be used to keep my curl while drying, but no one seemed to have one. After a mishap or two (too much product, had to rinse it out) I was placed under the dryer but no additional conditioner was applied to my hair. I should have requested it but really should I have to? I got some good advice on maintenance, and I got the style that I wanted too. When I am more comfortable handling my hair I will go back, maybe bring some equipment/product just in case.

I got her Signature Brows. This picture is my brows w no coloring in! She was soooo patient with me & gentle - I was bleeding a lot, but she was super informative, she told me what was happening when she did things & was overall really sweet, I love her!! So thankful for this investment - I am sooooo happy w my brows MY Microblade Chica is amazing & did exactly what I desired! After the first session, the eyebrows were uneven. This was a shock as the natural brows after a…read morebrow wax and tint looks much better. But we were told the the cheek bone and over all bone structure was uneven, so the brow drawing followed such. Later as the brow healed, there were patches that were lightening up, and when it healed for the most part and the color evened, you can really see the unevenness of the brows. It was pointed out by so many people. The only hope, and the excuse we told people, was that it wasn't finished yet, and there would be a second and final touch up. The directions post op were followed to the tee. The final touch up, which is mandatory at this point, was an extra $200 on top of the $500. So that's roughly $700 investment before taxes and fees. We were a little uneducated on pricing of microblading/ombré brows as we only based our patronage from the referral of a person who's eyebrows we saw. Since the visit here, I've travelled to LA and NYC, and asked around Chicago downtown, and saw that the $700 total is up to par to the high-end salons that service brows. Where you're given much more salon treatment during, while waiting etc. I've also seen the works in person of brow artists who have done it on asian oily/dry skin, light colored skin, etc. And there's no problem with patching. The eyebrows also were done very evenly and nice, as if it were drawn in naturally, regardless of bone shape (no one's facial structure is even after all). The other shops also told me that O wouldn't need to come back until 1-2 years, but this place said 8 months to come back and pay $350 for another session. Like what? I retract my first statement. And definitely you're able to find downtown salons with greater customer care that check up on you post procedure for this price. The shape also of the brow isn't that great.
