Great experience. I don't love to go out for Italian food as my family makes great Italian food, so for me to give this place a 5 star rating speaks volumes. Meta did many things well ....including putting their own spin on some common dishes. First we had Caesar salad which comes served in a bowl of baked Asiago cheese. Amazing! Then we shared Burrata which was incredible. Creamy with a mixture of olive oil and pesto on some garlic crostini and peppers. Delicious. The crispy prosciutto on top is unreal. I then had chicken Parmesan raviolis, unbelievable. The filling of the ravioli is a blended up version of chicken Parmesan in a pink sauce. The burnt broccoli was very tasty and a great side My wife had a dish with braised short rib that was also very good as well! Service and decor were both elite level. A jewel of a local restaurant META, formally known as SOLE, continues to serve up some of the tastiest meal options around town. If you enjoyed SOLE as much as I and many of the locals did, you won't be disappointed at all with the newly remodeled META. They warned a change was coming and many didn't know what to really expect. Were we going to really have to say good bye to all of the delicious menu? Not the case at all, as I went back to check it out and was plesantly surprised to see many of my favorites still existed (Hooray!), along with some newer options. The atmosphere very similar in sultry setting, with soft, muted lighting and warm decor coloration. Nicest change was opening up the entry. There is no more plexiglass breezeway, prior to real door entry :) as it now is straight entrance into a brighter more opened bar and waiting area, then the two dining rooms. Started the evening with two appetizers, one of my favorites the Bruleed Pear salad and a new choice to try the Arancini Rice Balls. The salad is made with Baby greens, grape tomato, prosciutto, creamy goat cheese, candied cashews (love those) dressed in a champagne vinaigrette. Not sure how they concoct that exactly, but its light and just right...they should bottle it! This mixture is perfecto and makes for a delicate start to a rich meal to come. The rice balls I was excited to try for when described having two favorite ingredients: artichoke hearts and a herb ricotta, I was in. The portion size just right with three small rice balls, easy to share with guests for a try. The taste was plesant to palate, but was really hoping for more artichoke hearts flavor. It was a bit hard to find/taste within the mixture, maybe that's the chef's intent, hide veggie into an Italian classic! Nevertheless a good few bites, worth the try if you like a good rice ball. Moved on to the entrees and a bottle of California, Angeline Pinor Noir with my friends, to accompany what was to come. One opted for Gnocchi Sorrentino and other Chicken Parmigiana Ravioli from their pasta menu. All presented very appetizing to the eye in size and aroma. Not going to lie, had small bite to taste each. The handmade gnocchi was soft, delicate and light. Many times gnocchi can be very heavy/filling, but not at META, just right! As for the chicken parmigiana ravioli, was very surprised not to see it coming out drowning in a thick red sauce, smothered with cheese. When thinking parmigiana anything, have a tendency to stay away as I don't prefer a red tomato sauce, but this was in a light pink prosciutto sauce. Ok, I now know I can totally order this here in the future for sure as it was soft, creamy and not overly sauced. Both selections were totally devoured and enjoyed by all. My selection of course had to be a chef's evening dinner special since it sounded so good when waiter discribed: Crab Crusted Cod with spinach over risotto. It reminded me of one of my SOLE favorites: Shrimp Limoncello (FYI...still on menu, HOORAY!) It came out amazing looking, smelling and tasting. I did opt for the fresh cracked pepper as I love an extra spice element to bring it all together. The portion size was double what i'd make at home, so had to totally wrap half for lunch/dinner next day. Not to mention save room for dessert ;) It was a very tasty cod fish steak(size/thickness), if I may call it, that even my grandma would love (Think I will definitely bring her to try!). As for the Crab crusted part, that was minimal and would have loved a bit more crab vs crumb. Maybe its just me as a seafood lover, want to really taste it. Each bite enjoyed with just enough tasty sauteed spinach and risotto made to perfection. There was a light cream type sauce that accompanied, which I can't recall was made of, but great taste and paring to it all. The finale, dessert as if we had room after all that, but with sharing we knew a few more bites wouldn't hurt. We indulged in a classic Tartufo for something cold and chocolate covered for the chocolate lovers. In addition to an Apple Crumble with Vanilla Gelato. All were very delightful and a great way to end a fabulous meal. To mention briefly, Waiter was a joy and pleasant wealth of knowledge when it came to the menu items. Management definitely floating around checking on everyone, which is always good, shows full team cares. Couldn't of had a better experience as first time back, to now META. Encourage all that enjoy Italian cuisine to definitely try them if you haven't and keep going back if you love it, like me! read more

We have been to Meta and always find it to be adequate. Nothing great but it is convenient for us so we dine there. However, I have discovered a few things that scream "we don't value our clients". On our last visit, we order a salad for appetizer and asked the waiter if the kitchen could chop it for us. He said "sure". My husband ordered a pasta dish and asked the waiter if he could get capellini instead of linguini and, again, the waiter said "sure". When the check came, we saw that there is a $2 charge for chopping the salad and another $2 charge for the capellini. On top of that, there is now a surcharge for using a credit card. This is not an inexpensive restaurant and our checks always top $100.00, so to be "nickeled and dimed" like that really leaves a bad taste. We will think twice about returning. read more

The burrata appetizer was good but needed more eggplant and maybe a balsamic reduction for sweetness. The crispy prosciutto is so crispy but it looses some of the delicious flavor of prosciutto. The burrata itself was tasty. Came here specifically for the chicken parm raviolis. They were indeed delicious and very rich. I would probably get them again but maybe as an appetizer to share (however this would likely be way over my budget for a regular dinner out). As an entree they just didn't have enough protein in them to actually fill me up for more than a half hour after eating. The linguini with clam sauce and shrimp was said to be very good. Service was excellent, your water will not even be close to empty at any time! Would maybe come back for a special occasion as prices are a bit high. read more

Two of us ordered the veal chop, which we have had before. It was tasty but the veal was over cooked and a little dry. One person had the rock fish which they said was delicious and someone had shrimp lemoncello (?) which was also good. Staff was very nice. On a busy night I would say I can overlooked the 2 overcooked meals but the place was fairly empty....we were there early. The fact the both veal dishes were over cooked makes us think they had been precooked and were sitting a while. We have eaten here before and are usually happy but we do feel that there are inconsistencies with the quality of dishes which prevents us from coming more often. read more

This place is awesome. I'd never heard of it but my sister in law saw a Groupon and I decided to check Yelp! for the reviews. Everyone (6 adults, 2 kids, 1 infant) thoroughly enjoyed their meals. This place has authentic Italian food. If you like that microwaved "Italian " Olive Garden type of food, this isn't your spot. The portions were decent and do were the prices (for the most part). Let me start off by saying, I would really love to meet the head chef/brains behind the Sole kitchen. This was the first restaurant where I ordered food, and received a plate of art. That was almost ten years ago. I have always been artistic, but I always viewed food as just the stuff you eat. I never imagined it to be something that could be molded, sculpted and then just dazzle a plate. I painted using a brush and paint. Here, the chef paints with pencil stick bread sticks and balsamic reduction. This restaurant opened the blinders I had on for food presentation. Therefore, Sole is forever inducted into my personal top five hall of fame, favorite restaurants. Sole is a tiny place that really looks like nothing special from the outside. On the side of the building, is a wall which is now painted with pink ribbons signifying breast cancer. Surrounding the ribbons, symbolic messages adorn the wall. "Cancer Sucks" was one that stood out to me today. It looked like the restaurant had their customers write their own messages supporting the fight against breast cancer. I just really liked the uplifting graffiti that was on the wall. It showed Sole not only has great food, but the employees have heart as well. Great food inside, cool message outside. Anyway, I am straying from the point I was trying to get across before. The FOOD! The menu isn't twenty pages of every Italian food you can think of. I actually think the wine list maybe longer but, you can tell every choice on that menu, was carefully created and selected to make sure you are a returning customer. I try to get something different every time I come, but the past two times, I think I found my food soul mate. Chicken Parmesan Ravioli. Generally, I am not a fan of ravioli. I am like the only person in the world who dislikes most cheese. Mozzarella and light Parmesan are usually the only kinds I can stomach. I love Chicken Parm so I figured I'd give the ravioli a whirl. How bad could it be? These things are amazing. Eight or so stuffed ravioli pillows, smothered in a Penne ala Vodka sauce that then met a focaccia breaded Chicken Parmesan cutlet. It is topped with fresh shaved Parmesan cheese. Of course, the actual Penne ala Vodka is to die for as well. Al dente penne with a luscious sauce and pieces of prosciutto. In the center of the plate, a beautiful sprig of basil. The fish entrees are always something interesting and kinda different. Swordfish and Rockfish are just two of which I have sampled. There is the usual Chicken or Veal Parmesan served with a full bowl of spaghetti on the side. This is a great choice if you are starving because it is A LOT of food. The chicken is thick and juicy. Oh yeah, and I now like Veal, thanks to Sole. Another favorite of mine is the Linguini Clams & Shrimp. Obviously, it's not a clam sauce from a can. The clam still in the shell, piping hot, burning your fingers as your try and pluck the big clam from its home in the shell. You can never go wrong throwing some shrimp in the mix. I love this dish. My eyes really lit up when it was put down in front of me. Now onto the the two items that were my Jerry Maguires'. They had me at hello...(food wise.) When you picture a Caesar Salad, you probably see wilted greens served on a plate with a few croutons sprinkled in, Kraft Parmesan from the shaker atop that mess. You are lucky if you get the plain Caesar dressing, on every leaf of the greens. Sole's Caesar Salad has fresh mixed greens served in a "bowl" made of baked CHEESE. I can't express how tasty it is. There are delicious croutons and fresh Parmesan throughout the salad - every leaf is covered with delish Caesar dressing. The "bowl" is placed in the center of a plate, under it, three cucumber slices (to raise it up onto its well deserved pedestal, of course.) Balsamic reduction drizzled on the sides of the plate, and sliced tomato is there to lap up the balsamic. As a finishing touch, two thin bread sticks are stick in, completing the pretty picture. You have never had a Caesar salad like this. My second item is the Tartufo. I had never heard of this delectable dessert before Sole. Basically, it is a ball of Neapolitan ice cream, a maraschino cherry in the center, covered in a hard chocolate shell. Sole presents their Tartufo on a frozen stage-like thing. The frozen block even smokes in the warm air, as it is delivered to your table. I can't give it the full descriptive kudos, because it has been a while since I was even able to order a dessert after dinner! Can you tell I love this place? The waiters are always on point, friendly, and quick with water refills (I have come to appreciate that!) The prices aren't outrageous, but I think they have gone up a few bucks in the past few years. That will not stop me! It is rough to park around here. They have a valet but the lot holds about ten cars max. So in my top five, Sole is in slot... ;) read more

Everything was good except the main course. I had the short ribs chianti. The polenta was delicious but the short ribs themselves were terrible. The meat was the type of meat you get in a lean cuisine if that makes any sense. My girlfriends ravioli was good and the other person in our part got the fish which was also good. The chicken and veal parmigiana is the best I've had on Long Island!!! In addition, their meatballs and sausage literally melted in your mouth like it had been simmering for c S!!! It's a little hidden gem! We went back recently and their sauce and veal parmigiana seemed to have lost its magic. It didn't seem to be like it was when the restaurant was called Sole. We went to Meta Osteria in Oceanside last night for the first time and were very pleased with the food and impressed with the service. Our server was Adam, who was friendly and attentive. After he brought our drinks he asked if we wanted to give our orders or enjoy our drinks for a bit before ordering. Being hungry, we were ready to order. Adam answered all our questions and made excellent recommendations. We split an entree serving of Chicken Parm Ravioli as our appetizer. It is one of their signature dishes and it was amazing. The sauce was light and sweet and the stuffed raviolis were great. We decided to take 2 apiece and bring the rest home. We then ordered the Rigatoni Ala Vodka and Angela's Garlic chicken. Both were wonderful and we had more than enough to bring home for dinner tonight. (The chicken breast was huge, moist & delicious.). We arrived early and by the time we left, the dining room was filling up. And being on the Foodie Card was the icing on the cake. We will absolutely be back and soon. read more

I've been going there for years But I've noticed a change in the quality of the food. Friday I went for dinner with my wife and had the Angela's garlic chicken. After eating 1/2 of it I realized that it was half cooked! The "chef" remade the dish (35 minutes waiting while my wife ate) and it was burnt bland but at least cooked. My problem was how sick I was from about 4am until the evening with, well, food poisoning. Shame on Meta for making the same dishes for years and not knowing how to cook it. Properly cooked chicken is a must and they should know how to do it. BTW, they still had me pay for the dish but offered me a desert, really!!!!! read more

I've been to Sole prolly 50 times. I tend to go there once every other month. The food is consistently good. The staff are friendly and professional. I used to be a HUGE fan of their filet mignon. Unfortunately, they recently changed how it's prepared - and now it's definitely worth skipping. If you don't like to wait for a table, then get there early. Sole is kid friendly if you arrive at 5pm (when they open). It's not a fun experience with young kids after 6:30pm. Sole has a decent wine selection. The prices used to be an excellent deal a couple years ago (which would have made this a 5-star). More recently, the prices have raised making this a solid 3- or 4- star restaurant. read more

This is the second time I've been here since they redid the restaurant (formerly Solé). We came with 15 people! It was a crazy Friday evening, but with our reservation we didn't have to wait long to sit. Our waitress was great! We've had her before. They're super contentious about people with gluten free diets. They have a separate menu! The Caesar salad is a MUST!! It comes in a cheese bowl (toasted parmigiana). The baked clams are also delicious. Small and cooked perfectly. For the main course I tried the short rib. The sauce was amazing, I asked for extra! Many in our group got the chicken parm raviolis. They are also a must, especially if your unsure of what to get! The cannoli and chips for desert are a perfect ending to a great meal! The 'chips' are actually just the shell for a cannoli. Break them up and it's great. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. read more

A solid, Italian American place in an unlikely strip in Oceanside. After a very awkward wait for about 10 minutes when we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and the restaurant officially opened (really, you can't just accommodate and seat us in an empty restaurant? doesn't this happen occasionally with older folks?), we had a pleasant experience. We all wound up getting the prix fixe, which is a good deal. A good bottle of Chianti was reasonably priced. I started with the soup of the day, which was an oversalted, rich asiago, potato and pancetta blend. My brother had the baked clams, which had crispy, herbed breadcrumbs and bits of clam. For the main, I had eggplant parmesan, which was a heaping portion of lightly breaded eggplant served with a side of pasta and sauce. Everyone else was pleased with their food and everything I tasted was quite good (there were 5 of us). For desert, I had the warm bread pudding, which was outstanding: banana and white chocolate with a caramel gelato. The seasonal cheesecake-- cranberry-- was also quite tasty. I have been here a few times. This last time I have to say I was not that impressed. I came with a co-worker during the week for dinner. The eggplant parm I got was great. Thinly sliced and very cheesy. Not sure how much I loved the sauce... My co-worker ordered a salad. She had wanted something else but they could not make it the way she asked because the chicken was already prepped. Regardless I would have given them 4 stars but then we got a strong whiff of stinky fish behind us. Now I eat fish but this was like in your face fish stench. Major turn off. Cook prepared my salad without gloves as I watched. What good is the social distancing setup they've created if the cooks aren't even taking the most basic of health precautions. I told the manager what I witnessed, and he went in the back to have it remade and scold the cook. I wasn't offered an apology or a discount. Meanwhile I had to endure the a$$hole cook giving me dirty looks as I waited for my food. I loved that place, but NEVER AGAIN. Today was my second time coming here each for a birthday dinner. Everybody had a great time, enjoyed the food and service. If you are vegan like me they have a vegan menu that you can ask for. We tried a salad and the bruschetta from the vegan menu. The bruschetta breading wasn't crispy enough but salad was great and so was my entree, a ravioli dish. Clams and mussels were fresh I've been told and the pork chop and angela's chicken were some favorites from the regular menu. We ordered from Meta two nights in a row and it was 100% perfection. One night my hubby had the veal chop pounded with mozzarella. I had the fish special of the night., Orange Roughy sun dried crab crusted and onion risotto. Last night we had eggplant Parmesan and crab crusted Rockfish. All four of these dinners were so absolutely delicious.I have to commend Bobby and the staff for doing such an amazing job.
