Let me begin by saying that I had my sons Christening reception here (about 60 guests) and it was on a Saturday evening - busy time for ANY restaurant - and the service was amazing. Tentative, friendly, and patient (we have a lot of children in our family who were running around like mad). Our hostess kept coming up to me and asking if I needed help with anything and if we needed more drinks. She was great! Now to the food: I pre-ordered a salad, pasta, with a chicken, fish or pork meal for our guests. I had a taste of everything. The salad was unbelievable. Tasty and crisp and fresh. The pasta came out aldente with fresh sauce and three chunks of mozzarella on the sauce that, when melted, was out of this freaking world. I ordered the salmon over risotto, which was too good for words. For dessert we had cappuccino, coffee, tea and an amazing chocolate and butter-cream cake with ice cream baked fresh in their kitchen (I asked). The presentation was another plus as well. We had an open bar for drinks (wine, beer and well mixed alcohol) and trust me when I say our guests took advantage. Everyone had an amazing time and our bill was a little under $2,000. For sixty people this place was affordable, with the service, food and drinks being very...VERY good. My only negative: We came when it was still light out, and the decor is a little outdated. NOW CALLED "META" the food has somehow gotten better. Went to Sole an innumerable amount of times. Loved it. They closed down for a month, changed the vibe and the menu and improved. Had the Bag of Donuts appetizer which is presented beautifully both upon the plate and the palate. Then moved on to the gnocchi and a nice glass of chianti. The wine selection is well priced and well selected. The gnocchi doesn't get much better. Don't forget the creme brulee which, unsurprisingly, is to die for. Enjoy! read more

I can't believe I haven't written about this amazing place yet!! We went there for my brother in law's birthday dinner and although seating is a bit of a squeeze, we made it work. Tables are placed close together due to the fact that the restaurant is not too large of a space but it reminds you of what a good italian restaurant should feel like: loud families sitting close together in a small space. Lets get to the best part: The FOOD!! We had a table of about 12 people and every dish every person ate was hands down wonderful. I personally had the crab cake with mango salsa for appetizer which may sound like a rare combo but they actually complimented eachother really well. My entree was the salmon and I have to say I am not exaggerating but it was soo good!! It was cooked perfectly with the risotto and asparagus. Finally for dessert I had the tiramisu banana split which really topped off the meal. Overall, all the food and service were great!! read more

Been coming Sole' since they opened almost 20 years ago. Now upgraded calling themselves Meta. Never had a bad meal at Sole' the veal chop is 5*, the best. Meta has all of the same goodies and more. The owner/maître d' Denis always treat you like your family. read more

I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and always been pleased. The food is very good. The duck and the St. Peters fish is so amazing. What I have a tough time with, is selecting an entree, because they are all so good. The service is excellent. Our servers at this restaurant have always been very courteous and attentive to our needs. They recently renovated this restaurant and they did and great job with the decor. Parking can be a little tough, but I don't mind walking if need be. I highly recommend this Italian eatery. read more

Only have been here for takeout and as another yelper mentioned the penne alla vodka was absolutely horrible. The chicken had no flavor, the sauce was bland and greasy. My initial visit was due to a Groupon. But I've been back several times since. The place is small; a hidden gem. I've driven pass it for years never thought to stop. The atmosphere is nice, gets busy at night so try to make reservations when possible. Friendly and attentive staff, more than enough help going around. Glass was always filled and table were cleared regularly. The complimentary bread basket and pesto sauce is a great start. The order of bruschetta is good too. I had the Rigatoni alla Vodka pasta cooked to perfection and sauce was great. For dessert I had the ricotta ball (forgot name but there version of Zeppoli). I've also had the fresh fruit for dessert which came with a nice sauce. This place makes you feel you got your monies worth. It was crowded and they didnt take reservations for 4 so there was an hour wait..but to be honest everywher eon LI on a Saturday night there is a wait. Mixed crowd from an older table, to a bunch of girls for a sweet 16 party to a huge table if 20/30 someythings so that was cool and diverse. We all liked our food ( pasta, chicken etc) and the apps were unique. With all that said though it didnt blow me away that id go back if that makes sense. For the best service and food I highly recommend Meta My story goes like this. I made a reservation on open table to dine with 5 people. I accidentally made it for the wrong date. When we arrived and I went to the maitre de, a very nice , calm welcoming man politely told me I had made the reservation for a diffierent date. I was so distraught. This was not a problem and the maitre de said he would try to help us out . The restaurant was crowded and I didn't know how we would get a table without waiting an hour! My friends arrived, we sat at the bar for drinks, and within 15 mins we had a table!! The rest of the night was great. The waiter was patient and knowledgable about the ingredients in the meals, and the wine. We will go back again! That's saying ALOT as we are real foodies. *If you don't mind traveling to where God lost his shoes for good food, then have I got a place for you. My opening isn't really fair, Oceanside is not that far off the beaten path. And Sole definitely makes it worth the trip. It's humble appearance and and suburban location belie the fact that there is some damn good food lurking within. And huge portions of it as well. Let's first begin with the wine list. John N normally has to call his mortgage broker every time he orders a bottle of wine at a restaurant. Not so at Sole, where to my surprise, the majority of the selections were $20. The high end of the spectrum topped out at about $30. I'm sure there may have been a few other choices at higher prices but I wanted to get my order in quickly before they realized that the wine list was full of low price misprints. After ordering the wine, and feeling as if I stole it, I peruse the menu. You may now be thinking to yourself "John N how do you order wine without knowing what you were going to eat first? What are you, some kind of animal?" To that I say, John N is not a bourgeois fancy pants, he likes a good Chianti and he'd pair it with his rice krispies if he didn't think Jayne would throw him into rehab. Most of the entrees were priced between $15 and $20 (they better fire their printer). We settled on a wonderful tuna tartar served atop a tasty guacamole and mango salsa as an appetizer. Delicious and the perfect size for two. My veal chop was pounded to perfection (that's what she said) and cooked just as perfectly. The accompanying escarole and truffled mashed potatoes were great as well. Jayne's dish was a sausagey, oniony, peppery delight with a side of red wine infused garlic bread and savory broccoli raab. I didn't taste it but the guy next to us ordered the homemade braciole and it took all of my strength not to bash his face in with my empty Chianti bottle and steal his plate. It looked that good. 2 words: eggplant meatballs. We're new to the area and have been looking for our favorites for every cuisine. Meta has taken first place for Italian food. Right around the block from us with absolutely incredible food and super cozy and stylish decor. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE, MANAGER WOULD CARE LESS. I'm always suspect when a restaurant has coupons, groupons & promotions = not doing well. I had a gift certificate ($25) so I thought give it a try ??? My husband had the "twilight" dinner that stated it couldn't be combined with gift certificates, coupons etc but our bill was over $100 so we thought the gift certificate could be used towards my entree and the liquor bill - the answer was no, we explained we had checked with the hostess that we could use the gift cert on a Sat night and we told it was fine. When then explained the situation to the manager and she could have cared less. Buyer/dinners beware - they have lots of rules and could care less about the customer. My husband ordered the chicken parm ravioli, although it was tasty it could have used a few more raviolis. We also got the fried calamari, which was good, not greasy. And the basil aioli was a nice touch. My spicy shrimp capellini was also decent. Again, if you are in the mood for Italian its good spot, don't expect your socks to be knocked off, but at the same rate you wont be dissapointed either. I've been meaning to try Sole for years and I'm glad that I finally did! From the service to the food, it was a five-star experience. My husband started out with the shrimp bisque, which I tasted and was very impressed with. I'm usually quite picky when it comes to seafood soups, but this one was "just right." For our entrees, I had the chicken parmesean raviolis in a pink sauce, topped with focaccia crumbs, and my husband ordered the chicken scarpiello. Well we hadn't been there in a few years and this visit confirmed why. The staff is very good so the issue lies with the food. Appetizers including salad were good but the mussels didn't have much taste. The big issues were my veal chop. Who ever heard of a thin breaded veal chop?. Its a chop not a veal cutlet with a bone. And for nearly $30. My wife's risotto was not cooked and this is s significant issue for an Italian restaurant. The staff did give us a free dessert which is why I said she was good. But basically no reason to go back. I also noticed that they don't take reservations for under 4 people which is ok but no one had to wait at all for a table on a Saturday night. I was recently at Meta in Oceanside, Long Island on a glorious Friday night (weather-wise). And I must say, the glorious aspect of the evening continued inside Meta. Atmosphere - fantastic (check out the back-wall wine-cellar doors). Buzz factor? Very much so. Bar situation? Get there early to get a seat - small, but worth it - and the Bartender was lovely. (The drink, well, "potent".) Service you say? They have it down pat. In a most friendly but non-obtrusive / professional way. NOW, the food. Spectacular Crab Beignets, killer house Veal, and those Cannnnollllissss! My companions were equally impressed (as was I when I sampled their fish, the salads, and those other great desserts!)
