The esthetics of the rooms feel like a medical office from the 70's and not very relaxing, especially the room where they do pedicures. Walls had marks on them, there was dust everywhere. This is a place to go to be truly holistically cared for: from the endless refills of special herbal tea blends, to the high quality products they use, to the relaxed and careful attention they give you with each service, to their follow-through that you are completely happy with your results -- this spot simply can't be beat! I was treated with the highest level of respect, even when I asked for something to be redone because it had messed up on my way home. Pedicures that go beyond pedicures: pure blissed out foot and leg massage, tingly scrubs, gentle tools (yay, I didn't bleed like I always do at other places!) and a very classy and constantly updated selection of colours to choose from. Manicures: I got French tips (regular polish), which require a meticulous and very skilled application. Mine were impeccable. I'm thrilled. The ladies were absolute perfectionists. I've never tried acrylic nails or gel nails but the ladies looked so good in theirs that I might just go for it next time. Facials: I had the privilege of being part of a special facial night with a group, and I was so ecstatic with the experience and the results that I had to go back for a number of the products that we used. DELICIOUS. Chemical-free. Smelling and feeling like heaven. Goddamn, you deserve it. They are super knowledgeable and confident and can guide you to the exact right thing for your skin. The interior is super clean, and they don't use those difficult to clean jacuzzi foot tub things that are usually plastic-lined for the sake of sanitation - no, they use stainless steel bowls that can be easily sterilized and you can be sure of no lingering foot fungus from anybody else. Makes it easier to relax, no? The mani-pedi stations are downstairs and the facials area is upstairs where it's more quiet and secluded. They have a wide range of Naturopathica products that literally fly off the shelves, they're that good. I actually had to wait for them to order one in for me (but it came very quickly) because the product is so epic: Manuka honey cleansing balm - go get it now.

However, my shellac was just slightly better than the one I had at another more low end place, two weeks ago, but cost twice as much for the same service: removal, manicure and shellac. The shellac on a couple of nails wasn't nicely shaped despite paying for a manicure too. The shellac was painted over the cuticle in a couple of spots. The shellac started peeling on three nails after 1.5 weeks. I had a shellac done in downtown Vancouver for 2/3 of the price that neatly lasted 3 weeks. Giving it a 3 because the service and atmosphere was great but not the nail job.

I found myself there after receiving a package of treatments for Reflections as part of a promotion when they first opened. I expected to receive perfunctory service since I was clearly only there to redeem a packaged deal purchased in advance and one look at me will show that I'm not someone who is either willing or able to frequent the salon on a long-term basis. While I was pleasantly surprised with the manicure and pedicure services, the haircut and styling I walked away with was easily the best one of my life. I normally either hack at my hair myself or go to cheaper salons, less because I'm a miser (which is true) but because I'm resent paying stylists to not follow the instructions I give them. I don't have a trendy haircut and I'm really at peace with that. Miehl listened when I explained the cut I wanted and made sure I was happy with the results. She was careful and thorough, despite the fact that I was only there for a cheap promotional service. She also talked me through styling and maintenance, which believe me, I need help with.

In this case, I stated, I do not care what length you take off, but to take off all of the dead ends. I wanted to leave with totally fresh, non split ends hair. I also have extremely curly hair, with a cowlick, and he always makes sure to make my hair look even when he cuts it. He understands that wet curly hair 1 inch is actually more like 2 for the dry curly look. He also does a great dye job, and will recommend things to you based on your colour tone, your hair, whether it can withstand certain treatments, and also will ask your general day to day look to make sure you look great at all times. I made the mistake one time of seeing another hairdresser to touch up my bangs when he was on vacation, and I learned my lesson because I looked like the Three Stooges! I will never let another human touch my hair, Hilton only! I am sure the other stylists are just as good at this salon, but I can't vouch for them as I will not see anyone else. But if you're my curly crew, trust me your hair is safe in Hilton's hands.
