This is my fav place for a little R and R. My mom and aunt introduced me a few years back and I am hooked! They have a variety of treatments from maple wraps, to deep tissue massages to and Indian head massage (the hot oil is drool worthy). I visited a few weeks back and got the Thai Table Massage from Poon and it was truly the best massage of my life! It is a mix of massage and stretching and I felt so refreshed after. Always enjoy coming to the spa for facials here. I am so happy I found a place finally that I trust for my facials and also uses the same product line I am already using - babor. The spa lounge is super relaxing. Come a bit early to enjoy complimentary tea or coffee! They also have lockers to store personal belongings if you want. This isn't always offered so if you are wanting to truely get into the feel of being at the spa ask to change into a robe and slippers and lock your stuff up in one of the lockers. Facials are reasonably priced and are not just relaxing but work well for my skin. Certainly recommend coming here for my facials! Came for an 80 minute couples massage - it was ok, but not great. For the price, it was definitely well below my expectations. I'm not sure I would come back for a massage at that price. We had a scheduled time and the massage didn't begin until 15-20 minutes after. It's gorgeous and clean inside but the massages were just alright. Because of the price and reviews, I was expecting something more. The ambiance of Holtz Spa is wonderful, the peppermint tea after the massage was great, and I really enjoyed the staff. I do not think Holtz Spa is a 2 star business but my first massage experience was. Most of all previous reviews are glaring 5 stars and many of my friends have raved about Holtz Spa. I am wary of coming back because I do not want to feel as though I'm at a loss from overpaying for a mediocre massage or service. read more

I was in Ottawa visiting from New York and I came here for a facial! I don't often times do spas so I'm pretty new to It. The ladies at the front desk were very kind. The place was very clean. The facial was amazing! I recommend Klara to everyone!!! She was so kind,funny, and great to talk to. I got the European facial I believe, and It was perfect. I booked the romance package at the spa for my fiancé and I ere. First, all the staff were extremely friendly, and everything here was very clean. Id never been to a spa and was treating my fiancé for her birthday. We first had a 50 minute massage with Adolfo and Poon. Both were awesome and focused on areas we needed more. When they finished we weren't told to stay in the room until the next treatment; no big deal. We then had Stephanie and Agnes for Reflex w/Marma and aroma. Great experience! Again both fantastic. After that both ladies did our pedicures and again did a great job. Thank you to all the staff for a great experience. Our only negative was not being offered anything to drink until our pedicures were almost done. We would definitely go back next time we are in Ottawa! read more

Ok! Holtz Spa you have redeemed yourself. I called yesterday and told the lady on the phone about my issue with the hair colour and cut. I was informed that I could come in tomorrow and she'd take a look at it.I wasn't sure what that meant, whether or not they'd give me a discount on my next visit, not do anything, etc. I went in, the stylist I had last time and the manager spent a good 20 minutes deciding which colour would go best with my hair, they wanted to make sure it matched my extensions perfectly without fading this time. Despite the fact it was a complaint I was coming in over, they were extremely polite and I didn't feel any bad vibes from them. In fact my stylist, when she washed my hair, this time she gave me a head massage. Woohoo! There ya go. The hair turned out AMAZING. It is absolutely perfect this time, you can't tell what is my hair from what is extension, exactly what I wanted. I mean, it sucks it happened the first time but they were extremely happy to help, good management here. Thanks Holtz Spa! read more

I had a great experience here at the Holtz Spa. A friend bought me a massage for my birthday here. The massage therapist that I had was really friendly and bubbly. She definitely made my experience great! I guess a lot of the staff have multiple functions in this spa, so I would definitely go back if I knew I could have her for a manicure or pedicure. The atmosphere was very relaxing, nice music, good scents and an overall feeling of calm. You can head next door after to have a nice healthy lunch too. While this is certainly an elegant place, and definitely does provide 'a quiet sanctuary to relax and rejuvenate' as it advertises, the price does not match the experience. Located in the heart of the byward market, apparently this is a favourate for the city's elite. The prices are certainly fit for the elite! I was willing to let this pass and was ready to experience a high-class massage. Unfortunately they mixed up my request/order and gave me a pedicure instead of a massage! What was that? So, I came in for a massage and was not expecting to feel like a million bucks coming out of it! My therapist, Catherine? was incredible! I went for the fusion massage and she incorporated what my body needed including: craniosacral tenchniques, reiki and deep tissue massage. I have been under a lot of stress and she was able to re centre me. Trust me, It's worth it! She certainly will calm you down. I got a deep tissue massage from Barska (I hope I'm spelling her name right). It was wonderful she was so kind and so sweet and so caring that I really enjoyed the massage and was able to truly relax. My neck, back and shoulders had essentially tightened completely up and it was very difficult for me to move or get comfortable than sitting or lying down. Barska Worked very hard to calm my neck back and shoulders down and I was able to leave with some range of motion and feeling much better than I did when I walked i work very hard to calm my neck back and shoulders down and I was able to leave with some range of motion in feeling much better than I did when I walk in. "Don't Trust them!!!!" My fiancé and I booked a spa day with them. We had a hot stone massage, reflexology, and a facial. I have benefits and I was very specific that I needed two registered massage therapists certified in Ontario. After I paid $360 for the massages (which I was expecting to get back from my benefit company) I was informed that Holtz spa had made an error and that they had not booked us with RMTs. I was assured that they would correct the situation. I heard nothing from Holtz for over a week so I called to follow up. After numerous phone calls I was offered two complimentary 80 minute massages. I was told that we would be issued a receipt so that I could get back the $360 I was out as a result of their error. When I called to book two months later I was told that no receipts would be given. I am out $360 as a result of the error by Holtz spa and they will do nothing to correct it. My advice is first go to another spa. If you do decide to go to Holtz spa, get your benefits receipts before you pay. read more

Worst spa experience of my life. Last month I treated myself to a body treatment/massage at holtz spa. It was to be much needed relaxation from a long and hectic winter. It turned out to be a nightmare. I arrived and the receptionist offered to take my coat, she was quite insistent, I thought she would be taking it to a secure location. I was then given keys to a locker downstairs and instructed to use a robe and slippers. After the treatment I went back up to pay for services and claim my coat. My coat was gone, in its place is another Canada Goose which is too big. I was visibly upset and they assured me that they would get my coat back, they promised me they would. Based on everything which happened later, I now think they were just trying to get me to leave. The following week I proceeded to call back to find out if they had found my coat I kept getting the run around from them and was told the manager/owner was busy but she would call back. I received no call. Finally on the following Friday when I called again asking about whether they had found my coat and what they were going to do about my missing coat if it wasn't found, I was told that they would be putting up signs all over the spa and restaurant. The following day I went to see how the search was going, and to try and talk to the owner. Once inside I saw that they had not put up any signs as they had promised, they also told me that the owner was not in. However a person who certainly looked like the owner the was there and when I asked her about my coat she ran away and got the bar tender at the adjacent restaurant to tell me that if I didn't leave they would call the police! First They were negligent with my property, and then did not honor their commitment to return it, Instead I was given the runaround for a week, and seem to have lied to about the signs being put up and the owner not being on the premises, and finally I was threatened to leave the location when trying to get my coat back. How is that for a spa that claims to offer total health and wellness with holistic treatments designed to create harmony of body, mind and spirit, very disappointing indeed. read more

If you do not want to damage your skin please avoid the Holtz Spa. They do a lot of promotion, claiming to be good, but they are NOT I went for a facial. During it my face felt hot and when I mentioned it, she said it is sign of the products working. Unfortunately I even bought the products (yes I am trusting and gulliable) When using them at home I could immediately see in the mirror how bright bright red my face was - definitely the WRONG product for me. I have never responded to a product at all let alone like this. As soon as she saw my face reacting she should of switched product The Holtz Spa definitely does not care about their clients, just their client's money read more

I visited the Holtz Spa (Ottawa) this past weekend while visiting Ottawa briefly. My mother agreed to watch my little boy for two precious hours, so I made the most of it by nearly falling asleep during two separate spa treatments. :) The Holtz Spa is a bit difficult to find, but one you do, you're definitely in a spa and forget you're sort of right in the epicentre of downtown Ottawa activity. Check in was easy, but making the reservation online beforehand was really tedious and required two follow-up phone calls to make it work. No point in saying you can book things online if it really requires a phone call to seal the deal. I had a facial and a Thai aromatherapy massage. I've had a Thai Yoga massage before, where you wear loose fitting clothing and the therapist manipulates you into various postures and stretches, great for an active person with lots of muscle stress. The Thai aromatherapy massage was completely not what I was expecting. I was asked to lie face down on the table, which seemed odd. I thought maybe they had the type of massage I had booked wrong. So imagine my surprise when a Thai woman comes in, pulls my limbs in weird directions and then proceeds to stand on various parts of my body, holding the ceiling with her hands for support. Now, I'm not saying this was bad, but I was a bit taken aback and I thought it could have been better explained on booking. Not the type of massage I'd get again. I'm a bit of a hyper-hypo and I actually thought I was going to get injured and spent most of the 50 minutes keyed-up and not relaxed at all. The facial was good, but short, and resulted in me having some kind of rash on my neck and decolletage for...well, I still have it today, so 4 days (???). I was obviously sensitive to something in whatever products they used which isn't technically their fault, but which has never happened to me before in my long-standing history of a pretty immaculate skin care regime, which includes a facial at least every 8 weeks. Then it cost around $300, I got the regular push to buy their skin care products which I always find has the opposite effect of relaxing on me. It's such a sales pitch and you feel trapped. This time I didn't give in, but I have done so many times in the past. I was worried about getting back to my kid on time, so I paid and rushed out. Holtz Spa was also really busy on this particular day, which didn't help the relaxation factor. I think the only reason I fell asleep during the facial is because the therapist left the room for 10 minutes after applying one of the masques (maybe the one that gave me a rash) and it was dark and spa-esque and there was a lot of steam lingering in the room from that part of the treatment. Who wouldn't fall asleep? I'm not sure I will visit again based on this experience. It's much too expensive as compared to the value for your dollar and not relaxing enough for that price, either. read more

I was given a full day package as a gift and was looking forward to much body work as I was stiff and sore. Upon entering for my 8:45am appointment, I was greeted by the hostess who was still in her coat, and who said they were just opening. My coat was taken, I was ushered into the change room, and was told to prepare myself for my first treatment, the steam bath. As I was changing the steam bath was turned on. This steam bath never warmed up for my treatment. There was enough steam to sweat, but not enough to warm the interior of my body. There eventually was enough steam to warm my legs and cause the rest of my body to sweat, but not enough to get warm, odd as that sounds. I chose to leave, and attempted to warm up in the showers outside the room. There was no warm water. Now thoroughly chilled, wet, and miserable, I was greeted by another attendant. She agreed that it does take some time to warm up the steam bath, but now it was time for my next "treatment". With even tighter, colder muscles I was whisked away for a "massage". I have had many massages and enjoy working with a masseur who works with my breath and energy flow. Having a very physical manipulation on cold tight muscles was not therapeutic. The woman doing the massage seemed to have no understanding that my tight muscles were not benefiting from her forced physical manipulations. I eventually asked for something to warm myself up. The women put warm pads on my legs, which helped somewhat, but it was too little to late. The massage did nothing to relieve my muscle tension, in fact her manipulations added to the stress. I was told there was nothing more she could do, as we were already late for my next "treatment". I was again whisked quickly down the hall for my facial. I found the facial beneficial, the woman did a good job, maybe I liked it because she understood my distress (I was still shivering at this point), warm pads were put on my feet, and my face was wrapped several times in warm cloth. And that was the end of my body treatments. The rest of the "treatments" were a manicure, pedicure, hair style and makeup. This might be a useful package for the girlie girl who wants a makeover for her outer shell. It definitely caters to the government elite who can afford it. I appreciated the gift. I booked the Indian Head Massage since it focused on all my tense areas. Begum was my masseuse and she was fantastic, left feeling so relaxed and muscles felts great. Nice spa, nice atmosphere, treatments are great...however, every time I go there they try to push products on me and I absolutely hate it. And not like 1 product but several and more treatments that cost over $1,500. Do I look like I'm made of money and have that much to spend on my face?? Seriously. I'm not Angelina Jolie. There are many other spas in Ottawa that deserve your attention, besides Holtz spa. I think Fairmont Chateau Laurier should associate itself with a better spa. I brought my mother for mother's day and though the staff were friendly, the mani/pedi we received were not the best. I found the facility also a little dingy. The lady who did my mani/pedi hurt me by pulling too much of the cuticle skin... not very relaxing. I think they should kick it up a notch, renovate the place a bit, and raise their standards in order to deserve their location, association with a Fairmont hotel, and their prices. read more

I was looking around for a knew hair salon due to the lady I was going to for years retired, when asking around holtz spa came up. So I had a hair style that in mind for a long time and finally wanted to go ahead with it. So I brought in numerous amounts of picks out of magazines to make sure that this cute was done right. As I arrived I found to be treated some what cold. I was placed with a hair dresser who looked very in the times so I sat there with confidence AT FIRST!! She had no idea on what she was doing this bleach blond hairstylist was lost. After me having to ask her if everything was alright for the fifth time, she walked away and came back with her manager/ head stylist who did not greet me just played with my hair in a snooty attitude and then took a look at the pictures I brought in, and told her jr hairstylist that it didn't matter that it doesn't look like the picture it wouldn't look good on her anyways. I absolutely was enraged but claming expressed that their opinion had nothing to do with what I wanted done. The manager just turned her shoulder and walked away from me as I was still talking to her. I told the hair stylist that if she couldn't do want I wanted then to just clean me up and I would be on my way...... when I had left the hairstylist walked me to the front and told the ladies in the front what to charge me FULL PRICE for a crappy hair cut, I didn't get what I went in there for and got treated poorly and they did nothing at all to make up for it. Once tell friends and co-workers what had happened the stories of this place all started to come out. I was in shock with all the bad things I heard of this place but knew exactly where they were all coming from, it is just to bad no one had said anything sooner. read more
