Had dinner here before an Alison Krauss show at the State Theater. A lot of the other local restaurants are closed on Mondays, so this place was packed. My wife and I ordered margaritas, but they only gave us one, because the bar ran out of glasses. We got the second one 15 min later. Every table gets free chips and salsa. The chips were crisp, but unsalted. The dish of salsa was small and insufficient, watery, and pretty tasteless. The server advised that the kitchen was backed up and to order tacos or quesadillas for the quickest service. I had the duck confit quesadilla, and my wife had the chicken/bean quesadilla. They came out quickly, and both were good. I would come back here when they are not so slammed. Three stars for now. read more

The bartender spent about 15 minutes talking before making our drinks, even though our order was already taken and it wasn't busy. To make matters worse, our main course arrived before our appetizer and before we even got our drinks. When we declined the appetizer at that point, the manager gave us attitude instead of an apology. No one acknowledged the missteps. Visited this evening with my family of 7. Our son was celebrating his 21st birthday, but had also just played in our homecoming football game v Princeton on Bicentennial Weekend so there was a lot going on. Parking next door made it easy. Initially they did not have enough room for us, but with an extra pretty please, they were able to accommodate. The hostess and server, Jarrin (spelling?), were great! The dining area is cute and restrooms are easily accessible. The chips were good, but the salsa is a bit runny. We got the guacamole with Chorizo as an app, and it was delicious, but small. The calamari was good as well. All of our food was solid. The quesadillas and tacos are on the smaller side, but the burrito and nachos were larger portions. The birthday boy got a free dessert, which was a nice gesture. The flan, fried ice cream, and churros were all great! No autograt, but I tipped 20% regardless. Our 2nd time here. Food is good service is good. My issue has to do with the Margarita pricing. My husband ordered a margarita and wanted OJ instead of sour mix. First one was brought out and had sour mix in it with OJ added. Replacement was good - but when the bill came we were charged $9 for the margarita and then $3 because it was made fresh and then $3 for Grand Marnier, which they spelled incorrectly on the receipt. It was a $15 margarita that didn't taste close to that. I ordered a top shelf margarita and was charged $11 + $2 to make it top shelf. It tasted more like low shelf because if a top shelf tequila was used, I'm sure I would have tasted some tequila instead of just sours.... Very disappointing. Shrimp and scallops was delicious. Carne asada quesadillas were good. Come for the food because they will kill you with poorly mixed and over expensive margaritas. read more

She did everything in her power to make sure we are taken care of and she was so pleasant! Ok now on to the food. Possibly the worst food I've ever had. The chicken in this bowl seemed frozen. The chicken tasted just like those frozen chicken Patties you get in school for lunch. There were no veggies in the bowl... No depth of flavor. It was a very flat dish... it did not insight my tastebuds or give me a flavorful experience. It was literally black beans, rice, and slivers of pickled ginger. Would've liked to see some pico de gallo, crema, guacamole... fresh chicken. The manager does not know how to do her job. She is willing to allow MANY underaged individuals to drink in her establishment, however when a group of 21+ college students from different states try to order they are denied. For all the people if you weren't aware Mesa had an incident with the police for doing this exact thing however it is clear that they have not learned their lesson. When I see Mexican in a restaurants name I assume Mexican food. Having also worked in a Mexican restaraunt setting for nearly 7 years I know it won't always be the same exact things on the menu or the same presentation but nonetheless similar in a way. This, however, was not the case here. Looking over the menu, some of the items weren't per say Mexican items. More of like a Mexican fusion I'd say. To set the tone: My wife went to ask the server what charro beans were, before I could explain to her, and the server had no clue. We both ordered sodas, and a guacamole. The guacamole came out very quick, the chorizo in it looked almost like little raisins, but we both enjoyed it. The salsa was a bit underwhelming, just tasted like tomatoes and onions. The restaraunt wasn't really busy when we ordered, maybe 3 other tables seated, and one was already eating. We ordered before this 6 top table next to us so we assumed we'd be good! Wrong! Our food came out after the entire table received theres and had eaten at least half there plates. Our server really wasn't visible half the time either to ask her how much longer till ours came out. We can't attest to past reviews where they mentioned being charged for refills as we only got one soda each, but the food was good. My wife really enjoyed her massive burrito, and my plate was more of a Colombian/Cuban fusion. But it was also good, be aware the tostones come with chimichurri sauce on it, the menu doesn't have it listed. Glad we got to try it but not sure if we'd come back. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a warm welcome when you walk through the door. Me and my family thought we would get some Mexican food after visiting Crayola factory and when we walked through the door we were told by the most disrespectful hostess that they are not sitting anyone inside all tables were open as we got there at 4:15 and that they will not sit parties of more than 4 outside. After I got upset and asked for the manager due to the disrespectful comments from the hostess, the manager came over and sat us at a table for 5. As we ate dinner we continued to get horrible looks from the hostess and when food was delivered to our table by the food runner she was completely rude to us! The only pleasant experience was the wonderful waitress, Gianna who was very nice to us. So thank you Gianna for being kind and wonderful waitress. I guess it could be called Mexican cuisine, if you've never tried Mexican cuisine. We stopped in after the bike race this past weekend. Since I wasn't overly hungry, I just ordered nachos. They forgot the guacamole, and it took a while to get the attention of the servers to fix that. The nachos themselves were depressing. A tablespoonful of black beans, a few diced tomatoes and jalapeños, and melted/hardened cheese over chips. It wasn't worth finishing. My parter god shrimp quesadillas which he also did not finish, after stating they were bland. Both of us had water, but the glasses were dirty, so we were thirsty and hungry when we left. I don't throw around the word disgusting often when dining out but my meal at Mesa Modern was gross. Vegetarian enchiladas will haunt my nightmares. Cold, rubbery tortillas filled with quinoa which was basically like sand and no cheese or vegetables in it. A little bit of enchilada sauce but it was cold. Our waitress who I think was the bartender forgot to put our appetizer order in which was probably a blessing in disguise. This is my second time going and I must say the food is delicious! It's always nice to seat outside and eat. It wasn't to noisy or to hot outside. My husband and I ordered order the margarita flight which had 5 flavors : strawberry, mango, lime and passion fruit. Appetizers was yucca with beef tenderloin skewers. The yucca fries OMG! Delish just melts in your mouth with a wonderful crunch . The skewers were good as well. Entree's shrimp taco and pollo tinga would definitely order again. Now the first time I went the service was good . My second time my servicer wasn't good. the waiter had us waiting way to long between orders and even gave us the chicken before even asking if we wanted dessert, which he never asked just gave the check. I recently visited for my first time. The nachos were outstanding. We ordered the chicken and guacamole nachos and were wowed. Compared to other local Mexican restaurants, these nachos are number one on my list. We also ordered steak fajitas. These were not quite as good as the nachos. Typically when ordering fajitas, my partner and I are able to split the portion. This time, we only received three tortillas and what felt like a small amount of steak. I enjoy the variety of flavors for the frozen margaritas - plenty to choose from. I had a Blackberry Sage (frozen) margarita that was INCREDIBLE!! I mean, every sip was a journey to paradise. My friend had a mango margarita, which looked just as scrumptious. The shrimp quesadilla and ahi tuna tacos were good, not great - but good. I will say, I am a cheese lover & a sucker for gooey goodness, the shrimp quesadilla was plentiful w/the cheese. The only thing saving the review of this place is the excellent service and hospitality provided by Rose. Overall the food is mediocre. The chicken tacos were a huge disappointment. They came out on cold flour tortillas, that fell apart. The chicken tasted like something out of a slow cooker and made the tortilla entirely too soggy. Worst of all, the taco was topped with bottled BBQ sauce. The guac was "ok." Lacked in flavor complexity and really may as well have been plain avocado. 'Twas the night before thanksgiving and we didn't want turkey. So, we snagged some dope Mexican cuisine. Had a reservation, but wasn't needed. Place was empty around 6:30. Good a high top table for 5. Neat atmosphere in the heart of downtown Easton. Parking I heard can be a pair, but we snagged a spot right in the front. What we snagged: -Pitcher of jalapeño margarita. VERY strict but VERY good. Filled 4 full glasses. Better than buying them straight up. -Chips with fresh guacamole. Flavorful and did the trick right before the meal. -Steak tacos (flavorful and lots of meat in three tacos) -Chicken enchiladas (side of rice and beans) Can't recall the remainder of the tables meals, but all was delish. Was doing the college visit thing and stopped on for lunch after the visit. Visited here based on a recommendation from a frinds and reviewing the reviews that were good. Upon arrival, we had the option for indoor or outdoor dinning. Despite the heat, I opted for outdoor. While it was a nice experience, the restaurant was in a busy road and the cars were speeding by with obnoxiously loud music and loud cars. Probably would have enjoyed the inside where it was air conditioned. But can't fault anyone but myself being I picked to be outside. Started with a cold Terrapin Luau Krunkles which was on draft. When the beer came, a complimentary bowl of chips and salsa also arrived which made for a great snack before the meal. The menu was vast and we ended up getting a vegan burrito ( Impossible Meat, corn salsita, rice, beans, guacamole. Topped with avocado cream, chipotle & black bean sauce) and the spicy chicken bowl ( Fried Chicken smothered in spicy sauce, avocado, pickled ginger, asian slaw, black beans and brown rice.) There were other top contenders as well, but you can only pick one meal. The vegan burrito was huge. While not an issue for some, the huge size made it difficult to eat it like a normal burrito and the meal had to be eaten with a fork and knife. One of the bonuses of the large burrito was there was food to take home. I had the spicy chicken bowl. While hoping for some heat, I was not impressed with the spice level. I will admit my idea if spice is through the roof and often food I thought was not spicy was I fact spicy for others. The bowl itself was tasty with a variety of flavors that made for a great meal. This is really not traditional Mexican food. Easy to make a reservation, and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time, although it seemed a little confusing at the hostess stand. Once we sat, it took a long time for anyone to touch the table. Someone came to fill water, and then they disappeared before filling both glasses. - The table behind us had to ask about their drink order twice, and it seemed as though they were frustrated. By the way, we were there at like 530 on a weekend & it was quite busy. Our server was nice and attentive, but it seemed like all the servers they need some floor management to keep things running a little more smoothly & expeditiously. The food is a C/B-. The guacamole and chips were good, but everything else seemed like a glorified Chipotle obfuscated by A lot of creams and sauces, drizzled all over the place. Also, I ordered chorizo, and it was definitely not chorizo. It seemed as though it was a cubed hotdog(?) We didn't have drinks other than water and the bill came out to $55 so it wasn't expensive, but I definitely had no desire to bring home any leftovers . The ambience was ok but music a bit loud. We were sat at a half set table so I had to grab silverware from another table & give the paid check from the previous table to the server.
