It was obvious that this piece was merely glued in place, with no stitching to back it up. I took the shoes back in to exchange, but the women working there told me that she would not accept them and gave me a national customer service number to call, which I'm sure will be very helpful. I've always had good experiences with the staff there (except for this last visit), but at the end of the day they're selling cheap products and not standing by them when they disentegrate after a few uses. This was our last pair of Merrels.
