Best customer service and experience. When vacationing over Thanksgiving, we stopped in here and I paid the most $$ for a pair of socks ever ($23 for those who must know). When I got back to VA, I tried them on and washed them one time. They didn't fit right, even though I bought the right size. The "heel area" rode up past my achilles and they kept falling down my calf. Now...I don't have the skinniest of calves; they are athletic calves if you must know.... Called the store, described my sock plight and after determining what kind of substitution would be best for me, I mailed those $23 socks back. Just yesterday, I received the BEST pair of socks ( same price different brand called FITS) and I just love love love them. I had just barely started walking around the Plaza in Santa Fe without my socks on, thinking to myself that there are so many cool museums, chic art galleries, and amazing Mexican and New Mexican restaurants here, but nowhere to buy a pair of warm socks. Like a prayer answered instantly, I saw a sign and the sign said "Sock Magic." I went in and decided to buy a pair of socks in a neutral color (black) that can go with any outfit, although there were hundreds of colorful socks (many prints like wine glasses, Dalmatians, and seasonal/holiday socks). I picked a pair of solid black socks made in Korea called "Silk" and they are so magically soft and silky...I love how they feel! Sock Magic indeed! Janice provided mixed customer service. She asked me what motel I was staying at (motel, not hotel)...I told her that I wasn't staying at a motel and that I was staying at 10,000 Waves. Janice then threw in a second pair of black "Silk" socks for free because she unintentionally overcharged me for the first pair by a bit (long story about the SKU price that was keyed in wrong in the computer that she noticed and corrected right away). read more

She was rude after I made my purchase. I regret buying anything from someone that mean! I'll never forget it and I feel differently about our vacation and trip after this interaction. I love this place! I think I have over 100 pairs of socks now, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Such a wide variety of designs and colors and everything! It's really hard to knock a business on product alone, but we're talking about socks, here. I saw the sign, I thought, Hmm, sock shop? Well then, let's go for it. Let's enter a shop that's all about socks. I can only compare the place to the Leftorium on the Simpsons (yes, I actually remember that episode, I'm left-handed, it resonated). The owner was cool, and obviously rather passionate about the wares, but in the end, Flanders had left-handed toolery and Sock Magic offered a bevy of... foot gloves. If that's your fetish, you'll find virtually any size, varietal and pop culture style imaginable. I was briefly enamored with the Star Wars line. Briefly. I thought the price point was totally legit, considering they were so close to the Plaza and they were hedging the profit margin on... socks. Hey, on rare occasions I actually notice socks. Wow -- really bad customer service. Tried to return a too small item and was told that they couldn't do because of an "intimate apparel" law which allegedly applied to leggings (not true and my receipt said they would be happy to exchange all products within 30 days). Stood up for myself and got them to reconsider an exchange and was then promptly overcharged for my exchange items. I was tired of arguing at this point and the old lady at the counter had already humiliated me by telling all of the people in the store that it would take a LONG time to check me out. Cute spot, and a large selection of really fun, funky socks as well as other stuff (like hats). It is very pricey though. Very nice owner. It was a perfect find for us as we had bought new cowboy boots for our daughter and desperately needed socks for her to wear them. Great selection, beautiful shop. Walked by several times but stopped in before Christmas and made a number of purchases over several visits. All those times the staff were happy and engaged with customers, however, the person working this morning was foul mannered with people as they came in, called them names as they left, barked orders to customers as they picked up items to look at and tried to act friendly by asking questions but didn't wait for a response before talking about herself. This review is about the customer service. The selection of socks itself is pretty good, though I wasn't too happy with the price... which relates to my dissatisfaction with the whole process of checking out. The shopkeeper was talking to some of her customers when we first entered; when they left, she seemed preoccupied and didn't even ask us if she could help in any way. Then, I found a couple pairs of socks as gifts for my boys and just as I went up to the counter to check out, she picked up the phone and became completely focused on making a call to a friend and proceeding to tell this friend that "so-and-so just came in and she lost her husband a few weeks ago and.....". Very busy-body, and I couldn't believe that she would prioritize making a call and talking to someone over helping her customer. I couldn't even ask how much the socks were before she rang me up, because she was just "blahblahblah" into the phone and hardly even looked at me. TERRRIBLE customer service. She seemed like an ex-New Yorker just trying to profit off tourists in Santa Fe. Would never return there and I recommend buying jewelry from the American Indians on the square instead of supporting shopkeepers like her who couldn't care less about her customers. read more

I'm a wool sock girl. I couldn't find anything I wanted at REI or On Your Feet so I decided to check out Sock Magic. They had SmartWool as well as a couple of other brands of wool socks that I had never heard of. Cute stuff. In addition, they had some nice tights and great little felted wool hats. Pass this store by! The owner is rude and unhelpful but worse there is NO return policy or leeway of any kind. You can only exchange for more store merchandise. Store owner is downright uncompromising in her stance against any returns even though she recommended that a particular and expensive sock would be a great fit. A much better bet is to buy your socks at the Whole Foods store on Cerillos Rd because you CAN return them should they not fit. read more
