Took My Grandma's Crown Vic to get the A/C serviced and its still blowing cold. Also later the car started getting hot and A/C stopped working. It turns out the Electrical Connector to the Cooling Fan was bad, so they replaced it and now the car don't over heat and the A/C still blows cold. read more

My car has been having electrical issues with alternators and batteries. I told them that it seemed like something fundamental was wrong with it since I've been through 2 batteries and 3 alternators in the last 3 years. I paid $130 for a diagnosis and they said it was just another bad battery and alternator. They charged $755 to replace both. Less than a week later my car stalled out at a red light and then after I parked, wouldn't start. I called to see if they could look at it since I just spent $900 dollars on a bad diagnosis the week before. The front desk person talked over me, took no responsibility, said it was my fault and that they would look at it for an additional $130. Unbelievable really, completely dissatisfied. read more

After having my car towed to their shop, (they obviously knew I couldn't drive it elsewhere).. their dishonest assessment of my car and 12 days of delays, after they gave me a very expensive estimate ($$$ thousands of dollars)- ( before trying the most obvious and cheaper issue --alignment)- I had to open a claim at my insurance company and Merrill Auto Electric doesn't want to work with insurance - so eventually, after they were trying to get the insurance company to pay more, finally, they put on the new tire, put the car on alignment rack & it aligned... no other giant repair was needed... they seemed tired of pushing and they finally closed out this repair. (Under $600) Proves that we had made the big mistake of using this garage exclusively for our 4 autos in the past 2 years. Merrill has absolutely lost a client. They also have cost me an unnecessary claim on my insurance and lost time. There are plenty of garages in the area that deserve my repeat business. This is not the Merrill Electric from yesteryear. They were purchased years ago and are a full service garage, they just didn't change their name, which I recommended. People from WheatRidge , drive buy it not knowing it can do everything from simple oil changes to major work. I know I did for decades. This place was recommended by AAA but I was a fool to trust that referral. I only went there because it was in the tow zone. Big mistake. They spent nearly 2 weeks fixing a problem that every shop I've since spoke with could have fixed in a day or two. They have a 2nd shop a mile away and charged me $50 to tow my car there in order for someone to weld something. Then they charged me $hundreds for the replacement of said part, even though they only welded some temp fixes and never replaced it. As I was in limbo and couldn't work, I did research and found local suppliers of the parts they said they needed for a 3rd of the cost, but the Merrill managers refused to even reply. A very shady company with questionable practices. I have never been more disappointed in a local shop... and I used to be a fleet manager and dealt with everyone. read more

All I can say is be as clear as possible when working with these individuals. I asked about a radio issue in my vehicle and was told to bring it in for a diagnostic. I did, after 6 hours they could not determine what the issue was and charged me for the diagnostic. They told me I could bring my vehicle back when the issue was occurring so I did only to be told they do not do radios.... needless to say I will not go back to this business. Stay away from Merrill Auto Electric. These guys are very, very good at ripping off unsuspecting people. I recently took my automobile to them on a recommendation from another mechanic. It was a very expensive mistake on my part. My headlights didn't work properly and I was of the belief that it was something that $100 (or less) could fix. I was very wrong. After agreeing to a diagnostic charge, I waited to hear what they had to say. Apparently, the initial diagnostic turned up the fact that there needed to be further diagnostic tests, which cost me more money. When they finally found the problem I was told that it needed a $100 part and about 2 more hours to fix it. Then they broke the ignition cylinder when they were repairing my car and had to have a locksmith repair it, which added a few days to the repair. To add insult to injury they charged me the $75 that the locksmith charged to fix the item that THEY broke (they said that the lock cylinder was worn out, but it was working fine when I took the car to them). Here is the overview of what they do: They work on your car initially, disassembling various items. Then they incrementally get you to agree to more and more items, representing that they are very close to solving the problem. When they actually find the problem, they misquote (on the low side, of course) the cost for repair. Finally, when you pick up the car, they present you with a bill that is far and away more than you ever thought possible. My advice: Avoid these guys like the plague. They are crooks, dishonest criminals that will lie and cheat to make a few bucks. read more

The guys at the front desk are entertaining but the their master tech is incompetent and So is the old man at the front desk. Yes, I have an odd car but the old guy wouldn't even listen to me as I was explaining what my car was. He kept arguing with me saying they don't touch European cars even though I KEPT TELLING HIM that my car was in fact built by Subaru in Japan and only ever sold here in the US/Canada and never in Europe. Kept interrupting me to the point I almost started yelling at him since he kept going on about how Saab had their own special computer systems and software even though I kept telling him that all of the software in my damn car was SUBARU. Their master tech obviously can't trace a circuit properly and thinks that ALL issues can be found using a scanner and software. Absolutely horrible at diagnosing simple issues like tracing a damn circuit or ACTUALLY reading a wiring diagram. Absolute waist of $900 for an issue I discovered in less than 30 minutes of my own research once I realized that they honestly don't know what they are doing. I even told them what the problem was and they reassured me that they had ordered the correct part to fix my issue. Turns out the ordered a new headlight switch whereas I told them exactly what part was needed and that I had already tested the headlight switch. I even asked them about what part they ordered and they kept calling it a multifunction switch and I asked where it was located. Couldn't get a straight answer. I asked again and they told me it would be 2 hours of labor to replace the part. I guess that's the going rate now since the switch can literally be replaced in 5 minutes. I know this because I tested the switch and even replaced it with a different unit in less than 10 minutes. Now I'm starting to wonder how much work they actually did on my car??? read more

Check engine light. Replaced EGR Valve. Next day have to tow my vehicle back. Replaced plugs. Still didn't work. Replaced catalytic converter. Also mentioned I may need new injectors in the near future. If I would've known I was gonna be charged $2300 for all of this in the beginning, I wouldn't have done it. Horrible experience! Would not recommend. Best they could say is that they won't charge me the $100 a piece for each diagnostic. Still over priced. read more

I had a wiring short circuit in my Subaru, took it in to Art for a diagnostic. They charged me for 1 hour labor for the diagnosis as planned, offered to fix it for a reasonable amount but the part that went bad was under warranty from another company so I handled it from that point on with the other retailer. I should have taken it to Merrill in the first place instead of trying to figure it out myself for three long afternoons, would have saved me the time and trouble. Will definitely return in the future if I have any other electrical issues. read more

I went there cause the shop down the street told me he could take me-then said they were too busy-and that my electrical problem may it a few days to diagnose a blown fuse-so I went up the street to Merril Auto-walked in and he said he could look at my electrical problem right away-and it would be 90.00 to diagnose the problem..which was the electrical blowing a fuse-they called me in 45 min told that they found 6 issues and that the total with the problems fixed would be 177.00 and would be done withing 30 minutes! I was so excited they found the problem so fast and the whole experience was such a relief=they were professional,fast, and fair on their pricing..very satisfied! read more

Merrill is on top of the game. I had an issue with my seat belt chime. I wouldn't stop and I was furious. I took it to a place up the street, Lakewood Auto. They wanted to charge me $1800 to fix the problem. I just wanted the chime to stop dinging. I took my car to Merrill and the guys there had me fixed up in less than 24 hours, completely fixing me problem at more than 75% less than the competitor. UNBELIEVABLE! Seriously. Go off the beaten path that is Colfax, up the street less than 10 blocks and get a deal and quality service from Merrill Auto Electric. read more

Merrill has always done a WONDERFUL job with my car and has a very quick turn around. Whether it was my headlights, new tires, tire repairs (which were free since I purchased my tires through them) or engine light issues Merrill has always fixed the issue and for a really decent price. Do not take your car to this establishment. I have taken two cars to them and all I have left to show for it are a collection of bills and one car that is worse off than before I took it them. They were unable to fix one car but kept working on it for weeks. Charged us and never were able to fix the problem. I had the air-conditioning worked on for another car. They returned the car with the keyless entry disabled (i.e. broken). At the time they said they would reimburse me for the damage that they caused to the car. Fast forward to today when I called to make sure that they would honor that promise to repair their shoddy work. What am I told? I waited too long to have their shoddy work repaired. My message to you dear reader: Look to another place to have your work done. read more

I had a brake system issue with my honda accord, and had it in several other shops, including Honda specialty shops, where a variety of parts had been replaced. The problem persisted after great cost and it was recommended I try Merrill. An hour of diagnosis and the problem was identified, requiring a small part and a minor repair. Although I didn't meet Dan, the mechanic that worked on the generator in my Roadtrek 190, I can say his work was done quickly, efficiently and competently. Terrible. They replaced a fuel pump for over $1,000.00 (the average price is from $600.00 to $700.00) and the truck died 2 days later. When I called them, they wanted me to tow it back down there so that they could see what else was wrong. As I found out from a real mechanic, it wasn't the fuel pump! I dropped the fuel tank myself to check to see if they even replaced it. It only took me two hours to take out the tank, check the fuel pump and re-install the tank; and a new fuel pump is less than $60.00. Good money if you can get it-and they got it (this time). There was a new fuel pump there but they didn't tighten the clamps on the filler neck and the return hose. Shoddy! It turned out to be an electrical problem (which is why I took it to an auto electric repair shop to begin with). The real mechanic took into consideration the same symptoms that I gave Art and tracked down the issue. Merrill is a typical quick turn over repair shop and nothing special. Almost anyone can replace parts, but real mechanics will find the problem. These are not real mechanics. read more

I took my Acura CL-S in with a complaint regarding either a transmission issue or fuel issue so I thought. I explained the problem very clearly and they took the car for diagnostics. A WEEK later they finally finished the diagnostics after I had to call and ask why it was taking so long and they found nothing wrong but some corroded battery cables. I paid them $250 to clean the cables and to tell me it's running fine. As I finally am driving the car home from their shop, the SAME issue happens twice. I called and explained what happened and was told it should probably be taken to a transmission place. I would have happily done just that a week and 250 dollars ago if they would have simply said they don't do that sort of work. However, they happily took my car, sat on the job with lots of excuses as to why it takes them so long, and took my money while doing absolutely nothing to help solve or fix the issue. I feel like I was taken my some crooks. I would highly recommend finding another shop who is timely and honest about their work from the beginning. read more
